Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problems of the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Three problems related to automatic transmission park/neutral start switch have been reported for the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2002

Consumer states she parked her auto and left the auto running to pick up her kids, her 3 year old ran out in front of her and got in the auto, and pulled the gear shift causing it to roll back hitting a house and fence. No one was injuried. Consumer states she is upset because the child just pulled the shift indicator and her foot could not have reached the brakes. She also states that she did not know that this could be done.

2 Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2001

Vehicle rolled backwards down consumer's driveway while vehicle was in park , no emergency brake in use. Driveway had a slight incline, and vehicle rolled approximately 15 to 20 feet before he could stop it. Also, there was no shift interlock system present in vehicle. Dangerous if a child were to play in vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

3 Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problem

Owner's 3-yearr old was able to put gears into reverse without applying the brakes, and vehicle hit a tree. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
