The contact owns a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The contact stated that the windshield wipers would activate without warning and would not turn off. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle. The mechanic suggested that the cause of failure could be electrical. The current mileage is 178,000 and failure mileage was 170,000.
Intermittent wipers on my 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager do not work.
1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager windshield wipers start on there own and sometimes cease to funtion when switched on! the wiper wear excessively due to starting on dry glass. Can be a hazard if wipers fail to funtion when needed. Had mechanic checked motor and wiring and in formed that it cound be the body control module but it is a defect from the manufacture a new one could result in the same problem at a cost of over $500. 00!
checked on internet and found that this seems to be a common problem with this year vehicle.

There are two problems which are occurring all the time:
1. The van smells of gas every once in while. There have been a couple of recalls regarding this matter and they have been performed on the van. Still the fuel smell is there. Have written to Chrysler, they only have one answer for this: you have exceeded the mileage requirement for warranty. I think this is a safety issue and Chrysler should take care of it. Why do they have to wait for somebody to get hurt before they will pay up? please help. 2. Windshield wipers: these have been a problem since I bought the van. They come on intermittently. Sometimes they come on when I am using turn signal, turning on radio, or just driving. Then there are times when the various speeds stop working, and the wipers only work at high speeds. Warranty work was performed a few times during warranty period. Since then, last fall the wipers stopped working completely. Took it to the dealer, they changed the body module unit and it cost me $650 to fix it. It worked fine for a month but since then the wipers are doing the same things as mentioned earlier, except they haven't died yet. Once again Chrysler gives me a standard response. They know wipers are a problem, and they won't fix them.

Wipers activate when turned off(on sunny days) and do not work in intermittent mode.
Consumer states that while driving in the rain windshield wipers would work intermittently. Dealer notified.
Door lock failures: repeated failures required new mechanisms, also affected the fuel tank door. Transmission failure: occurred in parking lot fortunately. Required $2200 in repair. Dealer (hershberger motors in woodburn, or) failed to correctly seal the transmission. When returned to dealer for this, they broke the right bearing hub, another $400 to repair. Body control module failure: wipers stopped working - an absolute necessity in oregon! bcm repaired by sending out existing unit by dealer (town & country Chrysler, milwaukie, or). Did not correct problem ($450 repair costs). Presently in for correcitve action. Signed - unhappy customer.
Light came on for the airbags and brakes. Then, windshield wipers wouldn't work. Dealership is aware of the problem. Consumer states that other electrically related components like the windows failed as well, the dealer could not find what was causing the problem.
Vehicle wasn't going in gear. Also, windshield wipers would go off intermittently.
Airbag light on, no horn , no cruise control. Wiper on itself sometimes when turning. Door lock sometimes doesn't lock.
Consumer had front end problems since purchase, noise mostly. While driving 55 mph there was a loud bang, vehicle began strut housing bracket that holds the stabiliser link broke off, causing it to cut into tire. No flat. Struts had been replaced twice prior to this . Stuts have been replaced a total of six times as well as front coil spring, also when gas tank was full it leaked onto the ground fuel tank was replaced, steering makes a noise when turning, suspension makes a lot of noise, wheel bearing msking a nosie, rack and pinion was replaced, vehicle pulls to right, swayar links were replaced, clock spring was replaced, when a/c is on the compressor engages loud sound, windshield falling apart, rotors were replaced, intermittenly wipers turn on by themselves, engine makes a sever noise, stabilizer bar broke.
The air bag light comes on intermittently, the cruise control fails to respond to the cancel button and the windshield wipers occasionally activate automatically.
Windshield wipers go on and off at random. It can be one time or several times. It is very inconvenient. This has been going on since we purchased the used vehicle in 2000.
Windshield wipers only works on low speed, and can sometimes lock up.
Windshield wipers would remain on momentarily after turning them off, and not returning to bottom of windshield. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that warranty expired, and any repairs would be at consumer's cost. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Several items: no interior lights fuse is ok, psngr armrest fell off, windshield wipers occasionally cycle on their own.
While the front transmission seal was being replaced, the mechanic warned me about the gas tank leaking gasoline. No visable puncture holes can be seen and the leak appears to come from the seem of the tank. He said this does not appear to be from normal wear and tear and to not drive the vehicle until repaired due to danger of explosion and/or fire. When michael stead Chrysler dealership in walnut creek was contacted, I was told on the phone there is no recall on the leaking gas tanks and that the leak is not related to the other recall on our gas tank assembly. We have also experienced the windshield wipers randomly comming on while driving. We had the switch replaced but the problem continues. Autoworld dealership told us that the manufacturer for the wipers has not made a replacement part to fix the problem and that if it was replaced we would just have the same problem.
While driving the windshield wipers stopped working causing poor visibility. Nlm.
While driving on the highway while it was raining windshield wipers worked intermittently. If making a turn or using the turn signal windshield wipers will come on. Contacted dealer, he was aware of the problem, but vehicle was not under warranty.
Vehicle has been experiencing problem with windshield wipers operating intermittently while in the off mode. Also, abs sensor light remained on. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under a manufacturer's recall, and repairs would only be made at consumer's cost.
The fuel pump failure (twice) is not only incovenient and expensive the 2nd time(not under warranty), but it also can be dangerous if it occurs at the wrong time, like during passing. The windshield wipers randomly turn-on is more annoying than dangerous. I do know a few more owners in central wisconsin that have the same problem. My sliding door electronic lock problem is a theft issue--the doors can't be locked when the locks malfunction-- and both sliding doors malfunctioned during the last year- again not under warranty.
Windshield wipers failed during thunderstorm. Rear wipers and front washers continued to work. Forced to use front washer/wiper mode to travel to safety. Probable cause faulty relay in front wiper, but forced to replace entire body control module.
The wipers quit working while driving. Now they only work with the washer button.
Major inconvenience, wipers activate automatically approx. Every 100 miles.
Dealer has been unable to remedy the problems with the windshield wipers, many component have been replaced (multifunction switch, wiper motor and body control module) but none have been able to fix the problem, the wipers either don't come on or fail while in motion. Nlm.
The failure mode of the wipers going "on" in the off position has been happening every so often for quite a while. This is not a safety issue, just an annoyance. Just recently, the wipers have stopped working when we switch them to the "on" position. This is a safety issue - being caught in a heavy rain without wipers is very dangerous. I think you should initiate an investigation and make daimler-Chrysler recall these vehicles from 1996. Has there been other complaints for this problem?.
I have had 5 windshield wiper failures since about June 1999 (remember it has not rained much in maryland this summer so the wipers have not been used much). The condition lasts from 5 to 10 minutes. The wipers will either not start up or will fail during driving. After about the 5 or 10 minutes the wipers return to normal operation and so far have not failed after they start working. This appears to be a random event since I and the dealer have been unable to cause the problem to happen on demand. The dealer has tried to find wiring problems once but was unable to determine the cause. On 31 August the dealer is to replace a module to see if that fixes the problem but I will not know until after it rains again. It is unsettling to have your wiper blades fail while driving and could cause a seriouly dangerous situation if it happens on the highway.
This van was purchased off lease with 18000 miles and less than 1 year old. After 1 year the vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage (36000). The wipers would go on and off at will. The dealer replaced the battery for $100. 00. The problem continued and eventually lights started to turn on in the interior of the vehicle on their own. The cruise control worked intermittantly. The air bag light came on intermittantly. The body control module was replaced. We didn't leave the dealership and the problem started again. The dealer ordered another body control module. It has been 3 and one half years and now the problems are starting again. The vehicle has stalled on several occassions. The horn does not work. The cruise control does not work. The air bag light is on continuously now. We do not have the $1000 dollars for replacement of the air bag. We understand that there are others with this same problem. Is NHTSA going to make chrystler right these electrical problems. I have read about engine fires due to electrical shorts. It certainly appears that we are not the only ones experiencing electrical problems with our minivan.
Transmission failed at 86000 miles, windshield wiper problems, a/c failed 5 times in the last 4 years.
Wipers come on without activating- during normal driving.
Windshield wipers fail intermittantly.
Windshield wipers do not park properly, continue to operate when switch is turned off. Wipers come on when left and right turn signals are engaged and will not stop when turned off.
Windshield wpers internittently come on and off, stop mid position.
Rear windshield wipers failed. Mjs.
