Eight problems related to front air bag have been reported for the 1998 Plymouth Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The consumer received recall 02v293000 regarding the air bag clock spring failure. After putting the vehicle on the diagnostic machine, a different code came up that didn't match the recall code. The dealer claimed that unless the codes matched the recall, the repair work will not be done.
Driving down road on haskell in dallas, TX im not sure if I hit a pot hole or not but all of a sudden both air bags steering and dashboard deployed.
The horn assembly sounded off and on intermittently, which caused a short through the vehicle. While pressing the horn there was one minute communication. At times it stayed on for 30 seconds to a minute. The problem was diagnosed for a cost of $350. When the dealer diagnosed it, the cost went up to $1000. As a result of the problem being in the steering unit which housed the air bag. Dealership disconnected the horn. . There was a recall regarding the clock spring which was replaced.
The air bag deployed without impact.
My 1998 Plymouth Voyager is not on the recall list for the clock spring replacement. I experienced the same problem with this vehicle and had it fixed before the recall came out. Chrysler is now refusing to reimburse me for the repair claiming it is not in the original recall list. I believe the recall list is not reaching all of the effected vehicle's and should include all 98 Voyagers.
Consumer was sitting at stop light 50feet in traffic and was hit from rear by another vehicle . Dual airbags didn't go off, and passenger's seat broke at top. Dealership was aware of problem.
While driving 45mph another vehicle made a "u" turn without warning. Voyager hit other vehicle which pulled over to the right, rearending vehicle. Driver's side was damaged. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed. 2 rear passengers were thrown forward into the bucket seats, even though both were buckled in. Neither shoulder belts restrained the 100lb child or the 70lb child. Paramedics arrived on scene & treated everyone. Driver in hospital next day for torn ligaments & in need of therapy.
While driving 28mph had a head-on accident with a truck, driver airbag inflated, however passenger airbag came out not inflated. Driver and passenger were injured.
