Failure Date: 03/13/2013

My minivan has a badly corroded driver side strut tower that Chrysler knows is a product flow yet will not authorise repairs to. This places all owners families and the general public at grave danger when this tower. Collapses for the vehicle looses steering and the wheel falls off. I feel a recall is in high order before someone gets injured or killed. This may have happened already. All minivans from 1996-2000 are affected. All my calls have fallen on deaf ears. Own up to your product flaw chysler and do the right thing! you got government bail out money how about bailing out your customers and the general public at large. I hope my family or the general public will not succumb to this product defect.

Strut towers are corroded to the point you can see through the top off the strut tower halfway around the top. There is numerous complaints of this and if I had not been informed of this it would have lead to a failure of the strut support. I am concerned that this has not been addressed previously. I called the manufacture and they are aware of the problem although they are not willing to repair it at their costs. Please just do a search of the internet. You will find this is a issue that requires immediate attention in order to save lives or injuries.

Although this is a common problem for 1996 - 2000 minivans for all three Chrysler models during those years, there is no recall by the manufacturer, and there should be.

10 Strut Tower problem of the 2000 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 10/30/2008

Just informed from mechanic that my front strut towers are rusted through. Driver side is completed rotted away and passenger side should happen after this winter. My 2000 Plymouth Voyager has under 60,000mile and has only 2 owners. I have researched that this is way too frequent in Voyagers from 1996 to at least 2000 for their not be a mandate recall on this. The repair cost can cost up to $3000 which most people cannot afford. Through my internet research, I am aware that Chrysler issued some sort of suggested fix for the problem in 1992 but not a recall. This is a serious problem and I know if at least 6 people personally that are having the same problem. Something needs to be done!.

12 Strut Tower problem of the 2000 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 07/27/2008

Rust has been developing on top of the drivers side front rust tower for several years. Having just taken auto classes became aware that this is a problem that affects safety. Dealers have not mentioned it in the past (while under rust protection warranty). The car is running fine presently, but this is going to be a safety issue when the strut tower separates from the rest of the car due to rust. This is a design flaw for this car. I have been told that is common. There is already a TSB on it (23-044-02). The repair will cost $1,000. I have asked Chrysler for assistance on it and they will not provide any. I have not had the repair work done yet. There is no date of incident, this has existed for at least 5 years, but been unreported.

13 Strut Tower problem of the 1999 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 08/29/2007

Observed that the driver's side strut tower is rusted through two layers of metal and perforated over half the way around front top of the strut tower. Vehicle has no other body rust except this shock / strut tower area and there needs to be a safety recall to repair this defective item before further abnormal corrosion causes the metal to fail and forcing the strut through the hood and into the windshield of the vehicle causing an accident or injuries.

14 Strut Tower problem of the 2000 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 10/27/2006

: the contact stated when the vehicle was taken in for a state inspection; the mechanic noticed the driver side strut tower was badly corroded. The mechanic expressed that the vehicle would probably not pass inspection the next time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who contacted the manufacturer to check for recalls. The vehicle was not involved in any recalls. The service dealer also suggested that the contact should file a complaint with the manufacturer. The contact planned to notify the manufacturer after filing a complaint with the NHTSA. Updated 01/10/06.

15 Strut Tower problem of the 1999 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 07/07/2006

Found blistering steel on left strut tower. Was concerned because strut top is supported by the tower. Used a screwdriver and hammer to knock rusted metal loose. Found holes clear through the metal into the wheel well. Took the vehicle to the dealer. Was told this is a common problem with a bulletin from Chrysler corporation. Was told the vehicle could be repaired for $350. 00 dollars. Had vehicle repaired and paid the bill. I feel that this is a defect in the vehicle design that is unsafe. Chrysler should have a recall and reimburse people for the repairs. I have taken digital photographs of the rust damage.

17 Strut Tower problem of the 1996 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 12/14/2005

This is no events leading up to this yet. I own a 1996 Plymouth Voyager se, the strut towers on both driver and passenger side under the hood are rusting out. The tower have not been replaced yet due to Chrysler telling me the parts for the fix are back ordered, and they do not know when the parts will be available. If one of struts where to come through, god knows what might happen. This seems to be affecting 96-00 caravans and Voyagers, personally seen it and on-line forums. I have had different 96 and 97 with the same problem, have since sold them.

20 Strut Tower problem of the 1998 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 04/21/2005

While checking under the hood, the right strut tower appeared to have an unusual amount of rust on top. A crack was then noticed. Mechanic stated it would have to be replaced and this was a common problem on this model. The original part was painted and rusted due to failure of paint. Needs to be totally replaced with new kit that corrects the problem. Failure of this part may result in loss of control and inability to steer the car. Poor engineering cited by mechanic. Prior models did not have this problem and manufacturer should step to provide this repair under an extended warranty since it is a very expense repair and part should never have cracked in the first place.

21 Strut Tower problem of the 1999 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 02/20/2005

Drivers side strut tower has developed three large fatigue cracks on top of housing on front end of vehicle.

22 Strut Tower problem of the 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 04/08/2004

On my 1997 Plymouth Mini van a crack has occured on the left front strut tower. This is the only place on the van that has rusted. I have had the van in for service serveral times for front end alignments and the last time for a safety inspection. It took my husband pointing thisout to the dealership before they noticed it. They imediately said it was a safety concern! but do not want to cover the repair. Upon further investigation we found that my brothers 1998 minivan has the exact same defect. I cant believe that we are the only two? when I checked your site other are listed for cosmetic rust in this location and clunking sounds?.
