While driving 40 miles per hour a sudden explosion happened with no warning. Thought it was the engine due to the smoke coming out of rear of the vehicle but realized that engine was still on and steam was coming out. All coolant drained out of vehicle and on road. Vehicle was towed to a Porsche dealership in duluth GA. The coolant tank exploded causing minor body damage and sudden loss of all coolant. The dealer replaced the shattered coolant tank but found no cause as to why the pressure got so high to cause the tank to explode. Heard a ticking noise while driving. Pulled over, on freeway. It was not a safe situation parked on side of a major freeway. Turned off car to look around the engine and found nothing. Started the car again and it died within 5 seconds. The electric system completely died after and would not crank. Got it towed to dealer after waiting for tow truck 3 hours. I was really scared sitting in my that someone would crash into me. Dealer has now the engine apart diagnosing it. It is a failed engine and will need a brand new motor.

I have a nearly brand new 2022 Porsche 911 gts with around 3000 miles on it. Around 3am on 4/16/23, I was driving on highway and experienced serious engine failure. Put me and other drivers driving on the highway in a life threatening situation. I or anyone who is driving could be killed while my car stopped on highway and later on a local road. It gave me insomia, paranoidism, trauma etc. In details, when the engine first failed, the speed was decreasing, I stepped on gas but there is no response from the car, the speed still decelerated until I made my way to the shoulder of highway. It finally completely stopped, I failed to start engine for few time and in the mean time the car had burning smell. I waited for 5-10 mins, then tried to restart the engine, car was started but it felt very weak and was really hard to control and steer. I stepped on gas but it's not accelerating. The engine kept failing and lights went out, I can’s see the road clearly and can't really steer the car. For my own and other people's safety I had to drive the car to the exsit! the car bumped into sidewalk curb, after multiple times of restarting the car until I made to the nearest highway exist. Whenever I stopped the car, the engine would turn off, then at last, I reached to a signal light and that's when the car had completely stopped and I can’t start the engine after trying for many times. Around 3:30am I called Porsche road assistance, they said they would tow the car in 60-90 mins. After 60 mins I called the road assistance again to follow up they said can’t find towing company and asked me to call my insurance instead. At that time it's almost 5am I was very frustrated, exhausted and cold didn’t know what to do. I had to have my friend picked me up and left the car on the road. Police officer had the car towed and I sent the car to riverside dealership. Called Porsche and filed claim requested for buy back last week, no update as of now, need your help on this. Thank you!.

Last year my 2010 Porsche 911 gt3rs experienced a catastrophic engine failure while on the road. I had to shut off the car in the middle of a 4-lane highway and try to coast to a stop while navigating around much faster traffic risking my safety and the safety of other drivers. There was no warning prior to the failure. Just a sudden bang, followed by shaking and rattling noise. Once the car was towed to an automotive repair shop, the engine was taken apart and it was concluded that a piece from the intake broke off and got swallowed by the engine while on the road. I have images and documentation of the damage and the parts are available for inspection. The trouble is that the failed piece of the intake was part of a manufacturer recall to fix that exact issue back in 2013. After the findings of the repair shop I contacted Porsche cars north America. The car was subsequently brought in to a Porsche dealer for inspection, where I was told multiple times that a failed recalled part would be covered by the manufacturer's good will repair policy. After 4 months of back and forth with the headquarters I was told that Porsche would not be responsible. I have spoken to other owners of this exact model cars and several of them have confirmed that their replacement intakes have failed, in some cases causing the engine to completely seize while on the road. Thankfully that did not happen to me.

Yesterday as I was driving in freeway, my friend was following me from behind, he noticed smoke and coolant leaking making his car's windshield dirty. So we stopped at gas station and noticed good amount of coolant leakage from underneath which make the back of the car and tires big mess. I noticed, before my friend's call, the handling and grip of the car was little off, I didn't know why but then I realized leaking made the tires slippery. Tow the car to my house and just wanted to report this. It seems lot of people complain about this issue when I started reading about it last night.

Catastrophic coolant loss due to failure of a known issue by manufacturer. The coolant loss resulted due to failure of the epoxy that held the hose to the manifold. The epoxy failure affected 3 of the hoses. This was part of a dot bulletin affecting this model year. Failure on my vehicle came later after warranty had expired due to low mileage. Also in 2021 the rear lid spoiler failed (another known high failure issue known to manufacturer) due to hydraulic fluid loss. Both repairs came at a extremely high cost and manufacturer refused consideration for help unless vehicle was repaired at their own dealer. This after I had made contact and advised them of location of vehicle at a service facility that is recognized by manufacturer as a credible alternative to their dealer.

The cars auto idle off function that saves fuel by turning the engine off at stop signs and lights in inoperative. I have had it into multiple dealers 4 times since 12/2020 with the complaint. In my opinion there is a temperature sensor that is malfunctioning and not allowing the car to go into the fuel saving mode. I am told that they are not able to make this function work properly. Wasn't the car certified for emissions and fuel economy with this function in place?.

In may 2019 I purchased a certified pre-owned 2015 Porsche carrera gts and had it for 11 months before it caught on fire while driving it. A forensic investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was the electrical board located on the inside of the cabin near the right rear tire. On the day of the incident, after driving the car less than 15 miles from my home to a nearby property I noticed the car was smoking as I pulled into the driveway. I parked the vehicle and found that there was a small fire in the engine compartment. I couldn't get to the car in time with a fire extinguisher and by the time the fire department arrived, the car was engulfed in flames. I'm now faced with a total loss for the vehicle and not to mention reluctance to ever purchase another Porsche in my life. I've dreamt about owning this Porsche carrera (gts) since I was a child and this experience has totally altered my perception. If my family had been in the car with me, this could have turned out disastrous and for that my confidence has been shattered with Porsche. I am also left searching for a car that is close to as nice as the car I had (fully spec'd and decked out carrera gts) which I've had no luck doing within the price point I can afford given the insurance pay out.
My 2020 Porsche 911 was two days old when I get a "ignition lock error-service required". The next day the tachometer stopped working. After the dealer fixed the problem, I drove home and park the car for two days. The next day the car would not start. I was told by the dealer this car has many problems with it's computer which makes the car unsafe because lots of its functions are computer controlled. I also just received a recall no. 19v-878.

Engine has seized due to intermediate shaft bearing failue (ims bearing failure), the engine is a 3. 4 liter flat 6 cylinder engine with only 95,500 miles on it. There was no warning sign of an issue. Turned off car when I got home then when I turned it on the naext day it would not turn over to crank. I took it to a local mechanic shop to get it tested and was told I will have to replace entire engine which costs upwards of $13,000 because of an ims bearing failure.

50,000 miles. In shop because of security system malfunction and an oil change. Mechanic informed me that an ims bearing is throwing off brass flakes which I could see in the oil filter. This problem will eventually cause the engine to fail. Evidently it cannot be repaired. The only solution is to put in a new engine. The3 2001 Porsche is known for this engine problem and should be addressed by the pna. According to my mechanic the engine is flawed in its designed and never should have been allowed in the first place. There should be a recall for this car.

The contact owns a 2015 Porsche 911 carrera. Several times, while driving, the check oil level warning indicator illuminated. When the contact filled the vehicle with fuel, he also had to add oil to the engine. The contact stated that he had to add oil approximately every 500-900 miles. The vehicle was taken to the collection (200 bird rd, coral gables, FL 33146 (305) 444-5555) where a failure could not be diagnosed. The contact was advised that this was a normal issue for this vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
Aluminum coolant tubes which apparently are glued together via the oem factory become old and brittle and blow apart. Coolant is then pouring out of the engine at a high rate into the city street. In my case, I was sitting at a red traffic light when the coolant pipe burst/separated. In order to fix/repair the issue, the engine must be removed from the vehicle and the 8 coolant tubes must be welded and/or drilled and pinned to keep the issue from happening again.

I own a 2002 911 carrera turbo, which has a well-know and documented design defect in the engine (gt1 motor). It is know as the coolant-pipe failure issue. While my car has not yet suffered a failure, there is a reasonable probability that the coolant pipes may fail during regular use, causing a substantial likelihood of property damage and personal injury to myself and others utilizing the public right-of-way. I am filing the report out of concern for safety, not only of myself and family, but others on the road. The failure of the coolant lines would disperse coolant rapidly onto the road causing extreme slippery conditions creating a situation where the vehicle would be uncontrollable.

There was no incident, but there is a coolant smell which regularly happens after a long drive. My mechanic told me that this is because the coolant fittings weep; I've found many forum posts, and was told by my mechanic that the lines bursting and/or spilling is common in 996 turbos ('01-'05). He advised me that I should have preventive welds to make sure that the coolant lines do not unseat and spill all of my coolant. I was told that it could happen tomorrow, or could happen 50k miles from now; either way, I would be stranded wherever I was. The work to complete the preventive measure was quoted around $5-6k, but I have not had it completed.
The Porsche 996 gt3 motors have a known issue among owners. The coolant fittings are epoxied to the engine and under high temperature/pressure usage, they are known to come lose and/or detach completely causing coolant spill all over the tires and road and deprive the engine from coolant. This causes the car the lose control and is dangerous for any cars behind the car this happened to. My car has this engine and as preventative safely maintenance, I have paid an independent shop knowledgeable about this issue to weld my fittings.

The coolant lines are glued in by factory to save costs. However the glue is failing and the coolant lines pop out and anti freeze is dumped everywhere causing an unsafe condition . Porsche is aware of their problem but doing mothing about recalling older cars to be repaired. I paid to repair my car independently but Porsche owners are being encouraged to report this safery issue.

I was driving on a Saturday night on interstate 79 northbound at approximately mile marker 3 between mink shoals and elkview, wv. I had just picked up a pizza and I was headed home a few miles from my house. I was going uphill when I heard a pop and saw a huge plume of steam shoot out from behind my car. I then tapped the brakes and the rear right tire got a little loose as it had antifreeze coolant spraying directly on it. I managed to get my car home as it was quickly starting to get hot and close to overheating as there was no coolant left. I googled "Porsche 911 coolant line failure" and quickly learned that my issue had happened to many others. I learned that from the factory Porsche glues/epoxies the coolant fittings into the engine block and over time and many heat cycles later the glue/epoxy fails and the coolant sprays everywhere and many times directly on the rear tires. This creates an unsafe environment for the driver and passenger and anyone in the immediate vicinity. I performed a quick fix on my car and pinned the fitting back into the block. I later learned that the entire engine had to be dropped and each of the 6 coolant lines needed to be welded together to truly prevent this from being a hazard. I paid several thousand dollars to have the engine dropped and fixed like Porsche should have done from the factory. They should have addressed the issue and offered to fix the failed coolant lines under a recall but to my knowledge this has not been done. Porsche claims no fault of theirs. Many performance driving events have identified the issue and won't let you drive your car at their event unless the issue has been properly addressed by dropping the engine. When you spend that much money on a car or any money for that manner you expect the car manufacture to do everything possible to keep your safety and the safety of others a high priority.
Coolant fitting glued into the block failed. The glue failed and the engine coolant blew all over the engine and onto the ground after bringing the car to a stop.
