2017 Porsche Boxster 718 with pdk has started in 2nd gear on 3 occasions making entering into traffic at a slow rate of speed very dangerous. 1st time the pdk transmission was in park and then I moved it to drive. The pdk selected gear 2 while in sport mode. 2nd time I was backing out of my driveway, stopped to put in drive, and the pdk selected 2nd gear. The 3rd time I was slowing to a light and came to a complete stop at red light. I took foot off brake and pdk selected 2nd gear. I attempted in all cases to manually shift into 1st gear but the pdk would not shift into 1st gear. This happened on 3 occasions from about July - Sep 2019. This picture is showing the 3rd time on Sep 9, 2019.

1. Earlier date fixed wireharness/drained parts at local BMW repairman garage resolved 2. Later in city, turning in motion car suddenly stall/powerloss of brakes, clutchsticky, hear timing odd, steering difficult had towed to Porsche dealer . Garage). Porsche diagnosed w multipoint inspection ,Porsche only did work covered by 3rd party extended warrantee for a oil water separator and water radiator replaced and told me engine has issues,5 mos later still at Porsche, caution to drive, towed out, Porschemanuf /cr/SC codes to repair until then released car w operative/safety issues dealing with airwater blow out on engine seals, and loss of power for safe driving and stopping and parking. Porsche must pay for these issues reported for recall required more than just warn me. Hand brake sudden nonholding so drift possible in parking,brakes/clutch unsafe per tow trucker , electrical /truckswitch/roof /door switch unable to exit /enter vehicle safely. Each time Porsche inspects and I repeat there is forget/hearing issues noted, and didnt do the manufacturer coded safety measures and says didnt include the driver warnings /concerns of safety to check on paperwork to track conversations just what mechanic diagnosis despite safety codes. Attach brakes code/electrical code/powertrain code/engine recallcode (safercar. Gov) trapping driver/passenger for crash & injuries after inspections/verbal concerns unresolved and risk of safety. New battery placed in months prior. Housing and lubrication systems at joints concern at seals from blow out of airwater separator creating an emergency on vehicle,is Porsche waiting till a new engine while codesafety issues. Porsche noted fan belt, power train code issues, required for safety. Apparently the water radiator/water pump blew hot steam thru entire engine parts loosening their effectiveness to be safe driving without concern of accident /death.

It lost power brakes during my driving at 45 miles/hour. The vehicle couldn't stop more than 200 yard before a traffic light. I almost hit into traffic which runs at 55 miles per hour. The car drove about 25000 miles when power brakes failed. Porsche said vehicle's vacuum pump broken. They fixed. I asked them what is life for a vacuum pump, they rejected to answer. I asked them why the vacuum pump failed, they said it was scrapped, they don't know. I asked them how they are sure the new one would be good. They told me that is why they provided 4 years warranty/50000 miles warranty. I told them it is safety parts, if they can't tell me what's wrong, I don't feel comfortable to drive. It is horrific experience when power brake lost, the car out of control, couldn't stop. I am lucky I didn't hit anyone because no one in front of and luckily again the car stopped about 20 yards before traffic lane on route 55 in IL.
Driving on freeway at about 70 mph and intermediate shaft failed. Created dangerous situation as engine started billowing smoke, obscuring traffic causing many cars to swerve dangerously and had stop abruptly. Car towed to repair shop empire autohaus, inc. Where problem was diagnosed. Owned car for three years with zero problems and regular service. Learned that many Porsche automobiles with the m96 engine (up to 25%) with less than 90,000 miles have had same problem and has yet to be addressed by manufacturer.

Pulling away from a green light in traffic, the engine started to upshift into a higher gear much sooner than normal and the car felt down on power. The engine sounded as though it was running on fewer than normal cylinders. I stopped the vehicle immediately & had it towed to a Porsche specialist. They told me it was an ims (intermediate shaft) bearing failure and that is was a known problem with m96 and m97 Porsche engines. Mine being an m96 engine.

This is a very well know ims failure issue with Porsche Boxster which certainly calls for a recall from Porsche. My 2005 engine will need to be replaced for 20k just because of the very obvious design flaw Porsche has in its m96 engines. I am pretty sure there have been numerous complaints about this in past but nobody has ever heeded to it. I sincerely recommend some one to please look into and ask Porsche to accept and recall m96 engines failing due to ims. Any car expert or mechanic or dealership can vouch for the design flaw Porsche has. Its potentially fatal too. I sincerely request someone to look into this complaint with uttermost sincerity.
