Driving on the interstate - exited onto an interchange ramp at 50 mph - and the engine stalled without warning. Vehicle at rear nearly rear-ended mine - but missed by a hairs whisker. Another piece of luck was that I was at the crest of the ramp so managed to "coast" towards the shoulder. Waited for a bit - the car wouldn't restart. Had to spend perilous time on the left shoulder before getting my car towed. At the time of writing - the car is sitting in the dealers lot. Nothing special happened prior to this incident. Previously a similar incident had occurred just outside my residence - and the dealer checked it out and said it might just be "bad gas". SAAB's customer assistance program was useless. Based on the other incidents reported - refer to odi #s: 10162804, 10137685, 10097342 - there is something definitely wrong with this vehicle. Please take action before someone loses their life.

On several occasions (5), I was unable to start my car. I would turn the key in the ignition and there would be no response, not even a crank. It would eventually start after many attempts. I would mention this to the service advisor each time I brought my car in and for the first three (3) times they were unable to replicate this problem. The 4th time they finally replaced the ignition switch. Thought this would fix the problem. . . After two weeks, my car did not start again. My 5th time to the dealer, they said it was a faulty safety switch.

While traveling on the highway at a constant 50 mph, the engine stopped running. There was no indication on an impending failure. One moment the engine was running normally and then suddenly it stopped completely. Fortunately, I managed to get the car safely to the side of the road. The engine would not restart. The car was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failed direct ignition cassette. Consider myself very lucky that I was able to get to the side of the road in spite of the heavy traffic.
