Brake Light On problems of the 2007 Saturn Aura - part 2

My Saturn is exhibiting the brake light problem reported in media. I have videos and photos showing the brake lights on without pedal depressed and most concerning the brake lights not coming on when brake pedal pushed. I've had car serviced at dealership twice and have followed the TSB on wire corrosion and problem still exists. It existed this morning. I borrowed a tech 2 computer and have video and photos of the problem with the brake sensor. The brake pedal position reads a negative position of -50 and this turns on the brake light. When brake lights acting normal it reads a brake pedal position of +3. As you push the brakes down the pedal position increases from the starting negative value until it gets to 50 and then the brake lights turn on. So I have a 100 point travel where the brake lights work the opposite. I have this all on video. Also, when this problem is appearing, if I depress the brake pedal and release it, the brake light goes off. I then count to five and the brake light comes on. This is probably due to the computer going into some alarm mode. If I drive down the street pushing brake pedal every five seconds, the brake light stays off. I will return the vehicle to dealer and show my video. The problem is intermittent and goes away when the car/cockpit warms up. It doesn't happen all the time and when it does happen it goes away after about five miles of driving. Updated 03/27/lj.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, another driver informed him that the brake lights were erroneously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the brake sensor needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.

At various times the brake lights would come on while driving. When the brake pedal was pressed the brake lights would then go turn off. Within seconds of taking your foot off the pedal the brake lights would come back on. Essentially the pedal was doing the opposite that it should. (brake lights would be on while driving and off while braking). This issue also caused the cruise control to turn off randomly and to not engage when selected. Eventually the problem became bad enough the vehicle was taken to dealership where it was diagnosed with the brake pedal position sensor had internal fault causing wrong voltage being returned to the bcm. The sensor was replaced at a cost of $227. 33.

Brake lights staying on/ engine power reduced with on any warning almost rear ended.

Brake lights come on when foot is off the brake pedal. Brake lights will only turn off it pedal is tapped but brake lights will again come on a short time later 10 seconds +/- without foot on pedal. Also the cruise control will either not engage or will disengage on its own . The brake light problems is obviously dangerous. I've talked to several other people who have this same problem with the Aura, g6, malibu build platform. Please issue a safety recall.

While driving along w/cruise control on it suddenly shuts off, and my brake lights come on without applying my brakes, the brake lights stay on until I apply my brakes then with my foot on the brake the lights go off I take my foot off the brake & the brake lights go on & stay on until I apply the brakes again & the cruise will not work when the brake light are on & when I first start the car I have to push real hard on the brake pedal to get the car out of park. This has been happening almost everyday for months now. I've had mechanics check it out they replaced stop light switch & cleaned contacts & reset computer but nothing works, general motors should have to correct this problem before somebody gets in a bad accident.

Last year sometime in 2012 I started noticing my brake light staying on. I have taken it to the dealership and they have looked at the problem three times. The problem stay exists to this day. Still trying to get the issue resolved.

Esc warning light constantly flashes under braking. Cruise control would shut off or not go on for some reason. I was advised by another driver that brake lights were not functioning. When I checked the brake lights I found that they were constantly on but when I engaged the brakes the lights would go off. I was constantly complaining about being tailgated and now I know why. If you traveling on the highway at 60 mph and when you hit the brakes the brake lights go off instead of on then it's obvious what can happen with the car behind you. I called gm customer service and the tier 2 tech and the supervisor acted like they were not aware of the problem. I told them that the problem seems to be fairly wide spread and that the NHTSA was investigating the problem. They still claimed they weren't aware of the problem. I do not feel I should have to pay for this since this problem seems to be widespread. When is the NHTSA going to complete it's investigation because I really can't afford a large bill from the dealer. I bought the car with 21,00 miles and it now has 62,000. . . The ecs light problem started within a year of ownership. The cruise/ brake problem started probably a year ago.

Hard shifting from park to drive/reverse. Most of the time I have to press on the brakes really hard to get out of park and when I press on brakes it makes a scraping sound. Also while driving the center brake light comes on and will not go out until I press on the brake. When I press on the brake the brake light goes out and cars behind me almost run into me. This occurs often. I don't know if it happens during the day but it does at night because I can see the center brake light via my rear view mirror.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the brake warning light illuminated and when the brakes were depressed the light would shut off for five seconds and then back on again. The contact also mentioned that pressure had to be applied to the brake pedal in order to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic stated that the problem was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000. The current mileage was 52,000.

In September 2010 and again in July 2011, my car began having difficulty with back up lights (non existent) and brake lights. The brake lights would remain on when driving and would go off when the brake pedal was applied. This also seemed to happen if the cruise control was engaged. Other drivers flagged me down to alert me to this dangerous situation. The chimsel light in the rear window remained lit while driving and turned off if brake pedal was applied. I took my car to a local gm dealer twice. . It took 2 weeks each time, to locate the problem, which was eventually identified as a faulty body control module. This was a very expensive repair, that had to be completed twice. 2007 Saturn Auras should be recalled for this issue. I have not used my cruise control since July 2011, as I am afraid to start this whole expensive and dangerous sequence again.

Thanks to the service bulletin about the 2007 Saturn Auras brake light failure is what prompted me to share my story. About two years ago I was driving on the washington DC beltway (I-495) on the maryland side. I had family following me in another car as we were traveling up to baltimore. My family kept telling me my brake lights stayed on while I was driving, but when I came to a stop my brake lights went off. Considering how congested DC traffic is I am very lucky I did not get or cause an accident. I had my car repaired at sterling Chevrolet in sterling, va. . . And was told they really couldn't explain why it happened.

The first time I noticed my brake lights illuminated when I didn't have my foot on the brake was while driving on the garden state parkway. I was passing through the toll booth and began to accelerate when I noticed through my rearview mirror that my brake lights were on. I stepped on the break and the went off. I must say because feared it would be a costly fix I ignored it for a long time until I saw another Saturn Aura with the same issue. I drove behind the elderly woman until we both at a traffic light and I pulled along side her to inform her of what I saw. I also told her my car was doing the same thing. She thanked me for telling her a drove off. I took my car to a mechanic who told me he did believe it was a electrical problem but could be absolutely sure until he was able to keep the car for the day. Again not really in a position to fix what may be costly, I continued to drive. Finally I was stopped by another motorist and he explained that while driving behind me he noticed the brake lights came on but as we approached the traffic light which was red I slowed down( stepping on the brake) and the light went off until I was at a full stop and my foot was pressed firmly on the break then the break light come back on. As soon as I saw the recall I called my local gm dealer right away and told them what was happening with my brakes and the fact that when I try to move my gear out of park into drive I sometimes have to force it because it seems stuck. They said they would check to see if my car was included in the recall. Well what do you know its not. This I find very hard to believe, that my car would be doing almost exactly what was described in two recalls but my car(based on my VIN#) is not included. I believe gm is tying to minimize their responsibility for the repair of the cars they willing sold knowing they had issues.

My brakes lights continue to come off and on for no reason. When my brakes are on and im not braking, if I step on the brake peddle my lights go off,often causing me to nearly get rear ended. I have also had the same problem with the lights turning off my cruise control at random. My last incident happened when the cruise control wouldn't turn off and I almost got sent through a toll gate at 75 mph when I was trying to pull over to pay my toll. If there would have been anyone else in line waiting to pay their tolls I would have surely been in a horrible accident. I have taken my car to three different mechanics on three different incidents and no one can seem to fix the problem. I believe this is a manufacturing flaw and all owners of this vehicle should be notified of the possible risk. Before someone gets seriously hurt, or worse yet killed!.

Cruise control would not set. Noticed center brake light was on without stepping on brake. Stepped on the brake and brake lights went out. Was able to set cruise control but shortly after setting the brake lights came on and cruise control released. Determined brake lights were on continuously until brake pedal depressed then brake lights would go out momentarily until brake pedal was depressed further. Determined brake pedal switch was operating correctly and adjusted correctly. Service rep replaced control computer: approximately 5 months later problem recurred. Gm service bulletin claims problem is connector on computer board that develops corrosion. Applying dielectric grease is supposed to solve the problem; it does but just temporarily - must be reapplied every few months.

2007 Saturn Aura. Brake lights started coming on for no reason while driving at night. When brake pedal was depressed, the lights would go out. Consequently, when pressing the brake pedal to stop, my brake lights did not go on. The cruise control did not work while this was happening. If I set the cruise after I tapped the brake pedal to turn off the brake lights, the cruise would engage for a couple of seconds, then turn off and the brake lights went on again. This was a very dangerous situation and I felt very unsafe driving my vehicle at night. This only occurred at night, so wonder if it's tied in some way to the headlights. Cruise and brakes work fine during the day. Took to my mechanic today and he replaced the brake switch. Haven't driven at night to see if problem is resolved.

2007 Saturn Aura's brake lights will not go on. When you slam on the brakes in the vehicle or pressing the brake pedal to quickly shifting from park, it must mess up a switch or a sensor. After slamming on the brakes the next time you press the brakes the brake lights will not light. Occasionally the brake lights will randomly come on, however, when one applies pressure to the brakes the lights will then go off again. This is a very serious matter and could cause problems notifying other drivers of the vehicles deceleration. I am not sure if anything was done to correct this problem I'm still having it. It seems to occur every time the brake pedal is rapidly pressed. I have done web based research and it seems that other consumers have experienced the same problem.

Brake lights come on while driving day or night and when pedal is depressed lights do not come on. Must drive with foot depressing brake pedal in order for lights to remain off. This is serious as the driver behind thinks that I am riding the brakes and then when I do need to brake there are no brake lights.

I bought this 2007 Saturn Aura on 05/23/2010. The same day I started noticing my cruise control wasn't working properly. Sometime it would work, other times it wouldn't. Then I realized when I drove the car home that night that the brake lights were on and this was causing the cruise to not work. The brake lights will come on at random times without pressing on the brake pedal. You have to press the brake pedal to shut them off. Opposite of what should be happening. So when my brake lights are on(came on by themselves) and I actually need to stop, the brake lights go off when I use the brake. A major safety issue in my opinion. We replaced two pressure switches in the brake pedal thinking that was the problem. Still not fixed. We also replaced a few other parts associated with the brake pedal and it still wasn't corrected. So, I contacted the dealership who told me they had no idea how to fix it and would need to go thru my wiring one by one and inspect everything and warned me it was limitless how much a repair like that could cost. So, I called Saturn customer service. I talked to a woman named judy who was no help. She gave me a list of repairs to be done and said I had to go thru that list first and pay for all the repairs out of pocket and if it didn't work then she was at a loss too. I told her I have done alot of research about this online and have found hundreds of complaints for this very issue on numerous web site's. She said the company is unaware of the problem. (which I doubt). I have a 3 year old son who rides in the backseat of this car and it is a disaster waiting to happen. There have been multiple times I have been slowing down to turn into a store or an intersection and people have come flying up behind me because my brake lights are not working almost rear ending me. When the lights go off, its 8 seconds before they come back on.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 87,000. Updated 05/12/14 MA.

The brake light comes on while I'm driving. The brake pedal position and the bcm has been replaced. This was only a temporary solution. Within a month the issue with the brake lights began to happen again. This is a dangerous and costly issue. I've almost been rearended multiple times. For safety reasons I've taken my vehicle to several different mechanics and GMC service mechanics without resolution. This is a serious problem. I have done research and apparently I am not the only one with the same issue. A recall should be done to resolve this problem.

I purchased my car new off the lot while out of state. I have had several issues with this vehicle. I am unsatisfied with Saturn that they are not willing to look into these issues and fix, repair or replace the parts to fix the problems. Unless continuously my expense. The brake lights are lit while driving down the road, and when you place your foot on the pedal and apply pressure, the lights will go off, thus removing your foot from petal, 8 seconds, the lights for my brakes are back on. Mind you when you apply the brake, the lights go off, so explain this to the officers that stop me, and give me a ticket for repair because I don't have brake lights when stopping!! not to mention the times of being almost rear ended because of this issue! getting it fixed and it continues to reoccur is getting old. Does someone really have to be killed to fix this problem? the braking system in general with the rotors and pads has been a consistent repair replace factor. I have replaced brake pads, had rotors turned, had them replaced, etc minimum of every 10,000 miles due to the rotors being warped, causing severe shaking in the front end. Service garage at Saturn dealer just says this is a continued problem with the Aura vehicles, but nothing is getting resolved. Again, does someone really have to be killed to get these real issues settled? these are issues with the brakes, not with something minor. Again, issues with the air bag service light coming on, and the garage not finding a repeating error, occurs yet occasionally. Fix by turning car off and restarting. Inflate tire signal repeatedly occurs, yet to find actual cause for this issue. These are the real concerns I have with this vehicle, minor issues are the doors filling with water, pealing of interior on black areas of door molding, handles. Failure of increase of immediate speed when wanting extra power to pass or coming in on ramp to highway traffic and does not kick down immediately.

The brake pedal position switch is incorrectly programmed, this causes the brake lamps to operating in a constant state of illumination when the pedal is not pressed, worse yet the brake lights shut off when brake pedal is pressed. I have already replaced the brake switch and relay. This is the same issue for recall pontiac g8 recall NHTSA campaign id number: 09v172000.

Brakes lights are reversed. Brake lights are on when my foot is off the brake pedal (when the car is parked, when I am accelerating/coasting). When I press on the brake pedal the lights go off. This issue is intermittent. When the issue is occuring the cruise control does not work and I also have to press the brake pedal all the way to the floor to put it in gear. I have had it in the shop on and off for years no one can seem to fix it. This is a safety issue, please recall.

The back brakes lights come on when not in use. This is more obvious when it is dark because you can see the brake light in the back window. And when you brake the light goes off. Very dangerous and I have taken the car to a mechanic and they have not been able to find the problem and the dealer won't cover it. This has been ongoing for several years. I have actually thought of selling the car because its so frustrating.

The brake lights do not function properly and are unpredictable. The manufacture warranty replaced the brake module once, but we have the same problem on-going. My research has informed me that this is a widespread issue and one that needs to be recalled. The cheap connectors in the brake module corrode and cause may issues: 1. The brake likes will often stay on while not pressing the brake. Then they will turn off when the brake is pressed. This happens most often, but is also inconsistent at times. The lights simply are not reliable and do not work as they should. 2. The cruise control will not function due to faulty brake engagement signal. 3. It is difficult to shift the gear selector due to the sane issue. You must press extremely hard on the brake to get it to shift and this leads to abnormal sounds and operation of the brake lever. We have an extended warranty, but we don't feel it acceptable to pay $100 deductible to fix an ongoing problem over and over again. This has led to us not using the vehicle much due to safety concerns. The car has about 50k miles on it after 6 years. The service bulletin says not to replace the module, but rather grease the connectors. Seems like a pretty clear cause (replace cheap connectors with ones that will last and not corrode. . . Not replace module with another inadequate one). Please recall. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the brake position sensor would continue to fail, causing the cruise control and exterior brake light to become inoperative. The dealer repaired the failure numerous times, but the failure would recur. The manufacturer was contacted, but denied any assistance with repair to the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 62,000. Updated 05/16/lj updated 05/25/12.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. While driving approximately 55-60 mph with the cruise engaged the brake lights came on and the brakes engaged independently. He stated that if he applied pressure to the brake pedal that the brake lights would shut off for 2 to 3 seconds and would come back on independently. When the failure occurred the cruise control was not visible. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times and the dealer could not duplicate the failure. He also stated that there was a noise coming from the passenger side front brakes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer seven times for the failure. The dealer replaced the front brake pads and rotors twice. The rear brake pads and rotors were also replaced. In December of 2009 a GMC field engineer inspected the vehicle and replaced the front brakes. The contact was unable to provide a VIN. The failure mileage was 200 and the approximate current mileage was 52,000.
