Saturn Aura owners have reported 124 problems related to brake light on (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Saturn Aura based on all problems reported for the Aura.
The brake lights constantly stay on. The esc alert/traction control alert always turns on. Acceleration and transmission issues. Rpms shoot up and jerks into next gear from when I turn the car on, and sometimes they happen after I've been driving and there was a recall on these models.

While driving and not touching the brakes, the brake lights are illuminated as if you are braking. When you do apply the brakes, the brake light goes off and there is no indication that you are slowing and braking. The cruise control in turn does not work as it thinks you are applying the brakes at highway speeds. This has been a recall before for this car and was repaired but is happening again.

I've recently bought this car and the brake lights keep illuminating when not pressed and has destroyed two brand new sets of rotors in less than 3 months due to hot spots and stress fractures. I have noticed it happens all the time whether I'm doing city or country driving. Also the third brake light will fail to light up some of the times whenever I'm only pressing the accelerator but it will refuse to light up when the brake pedal is pressed when this is happening.

While driving, the brake lights will remain lit up even though the brakes are not being engaged. My electronic stability control (esc) light has been popping up alot lately, almost every time the car is being used, it has popped up on my dash while the car is parked and while the car is in motion. Twice in the last year, after just starting up the car, while still being in park the esc light will show up and I will not be able to put the car into gear, I have to shut off the the car and restart it.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Saturn Aura. On several occasions, while the vehicle was being driven, the rear brake lights illuminated independently when the brake pedal was not depressed. Additionally, the service traction control warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per an unknown recall regarding the service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control. Freedom Chevrolet Buick GMC by ed morse (located at 8008 marvin d love fwy, dallas, TX 75237, (972) 330-4981) was contacted by phone and confirmed that the vehicle was no longer included in the recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000.
The brake lights of my Saturn Aura would automatically self-activate exactly 5 seconds after the driver placed the vehicle into drive. The brake lights would stay active until the driver pressed the brake pedal, at which time the brake lights would actually deactivate. My son was driving the car on I-94 and was almost struck by a semi truck when my son pressed the brake pedal and the brake lights deactivated (turned off). I had the car serviced at gm and had to pay a total of $697. 03 to get the car fixed even after I notified the service representative that this exact electrical failure was outlined for this exact car in gm recall #13036. The recall referenced the body control module and brake sensor, both of which were replaced causing me to pay $697. 03. This is my second notification to the NHTSA, I reported this on June 19, 2019 (NHTSA # 11221201) but I have received no response. As of today's date (September 3, 2019) gm has not reimbursed me.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Saturn Aura. While driving at an unknown speed, the brake lights illuminated. While the brake pedal was depressed, the brake lights failed to illuminate; however, once the brake pedal was released, the brake lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to moran Buick GMC (14000 telegraph rd, taylor, mi 48180, (888) 350-0669) where it was determined that the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the recall repair was completed. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
While driving, my brake lights come on without the pedal being pushed and then will eventually go off.
My external brake lights come on as soon as I crank my vehicle. They do not go off unless I press my brake pedal. I have almost been rear ended a couple of times. Also when I first get in my vehicle when I press my brake pedal it gets stuck and it makes it hard to put my car in gear. I need this checked almost immediately. This is my second time filing a claim. The first one was not looked at.
Takata recall- I have a 2007 Saturn Aura and I am having problems with my brake lights. They are constantly on. I have had the brake sensors replaced and same outcome. I even had the brake switch replaced. While I am driving my brake lights are on and when I use the brakes the brake light goes off. Have almost been rear ended quite a few times.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While driving, the brake lights randomly illuminated without warning and various indicators flashed on and off on the instrument panel. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the power steering would suddenly malfunction causing the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The service brakes and electronic stability control sensor lights would suddenly illuminate and the brake lights would remain illuminated without pressing the brake pedal. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer sutliff GMC of state college, PA were notified but no assistance was offered. The contact indicated that the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA recall campaign number 14v252000(service brakes, exterior lighting , electronic stability control) in 2014 but the failure had reoccurred. The failure mileage was 190,000. Jft.
Driving and my brake lights come on. I stop and they go off. As I'm driving I feel resistance like my brakes are being pushes.
Brake lights stay on. When the brake is applied the brake lights go off and then on. This condition would happen while stopped with brakes on or while driving with brakes off. Gm service policy previously complied with to fix condition. Brake sensor was at fault. Sensor replaced.
The contact owns a 2009 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). While driving 65 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and both exterior brake lights illuminated. The contact later depressed the brake pedal, but the brake lights failed to illuminate until the contact fully depressed the brake pedal. The failure recurred multiple times and at various speeds. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that they could not assist and that the contact should pay for diagnostic testing out of pocket. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.
Brake lights illuminate when brake pedal not being pushed. Brake lights turn off when pedal is pushed. Electronic stability control fails when brake applied. Difficulty shifting out of park unless brake pedal applied.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the exterior brake lights failed to illuminate and an abnormal noise was heard after the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was remedied per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
This is a repeat problem for a malfunction that was repaired by a dealer under recall # 13036. The brake lights are not working properly. They are on (lit) when the brake pedal is not depressed. When the driver presses on the brake pedal, the brake lights go off (dark). This is an obvious safety issue and continues to occur despite a previous recall repair.
This vehicle has supposedly already been serviced under recall campaign number 14v252000. However, intermittently, the brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights don't illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty engaging or disengaging the cruise control, and crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features become disabled. The date given below for occurrence of the incident is just the most recent occurrence. This issue can happen on a daily basis and has been returned to the dealer that performed the recall service but nothing is found to address the incident.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While driving 40 mph, the traction and brake warning lights illuminated at 4 rpms. In addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
I own a 2009 Saturn Aura. Last year, it was recalled due to a fault with a break light malfunction, causing the break lights to remain illuminated at all times. I took my Saturn in to my local gm technician to have the issue addressed at that time. Unfortunately, the issue has retuned to my vehicle within the last month, and my brake lights are constantly on while I'm driving the car, unless I actually use the break pedal, at which point, they go off. I am at odds with my local gm shop as to looking at this issue again (as it was a safety recall), and I'm hoping I can get some kind of authorization or voucher to perform this service again to take care of this already-recalled issue. Gm would like to charge me to perform a service diagnostic test, and cannot guarantee that the original terms of the recall would be honored. I don't feel it is right to spend money on a vehicle safety issue (under a recall, no less) considering that gm has already recalled my car once and this is the same problem I had in the past which prompted the original recall in the first place. It is dangerous to drive my car in its current condition, and I believe unfair for gm to take advantage of treating this repeat issue as a "new" issue. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!.
Brake lights illuminate without brake pedal being depressed, and do not illuminate when brake pedal is depressed while driving. Service traction, service erc, and esc off warnings appear on dashboard. Nhtsa campaign # 14v252000, gm recall # 13036 was not applied to my VIN even though my manufacture date is 12/08, within the specifications of said recall.
Recall oct 2014 for body control module bcm was fixed by dealer (reedman toll, langhorn, PA). About 3 weeks ago my car started doing the same thing. Brake lights go on for no reason (even if the car is parked with no one in it); touch break pedal lightly and brake lights go out; touch harder and they come back on. Riding down road message is displayed on dash "service traction" then "esc off". This is exactly how it worked before the recall. It does this most days but not all. Sometimes the brakes lights work correctly. Sometimes when driving with the problem, the problem seems to correct itself after a while and then comes back (on the same trip). Called same dealer and they said they can only fix a recall once and that I would have to pay to have it fixed again. I ride the PA turnpike everyday and have notice several gm cars that have the same problem. Seems to me they put a band aid on it and never fixed it properly. This is a safety issue for the people behind me since they never know when my brakes are on or off.
Takata recall the ecm light was on the brake lights stay on when car is on and when applying the brakes the brake lights go out. It his difficult to move the shifter from park to another gear. I have this car for 2 years and every time I check there is no recall on my car. The air bag light on passenger side comes and goes all the time.
Saturn Aura 2008 tail lamp malfunction. I brought the vehicle to tustin gm for brake repair and brake light repair. I was told it was the brake light switch, I wasn't told anything about a recall. 2 weeks ago, I noticed my traction control, esc and panic brake assistance were not working along with cruise control and a few other features. It occurred randomly after at least an hour of driving. I noticed after a few times this occurred my brake lights would illuminate while I was in park with the headlights off. I tested it, and they indeed turned off when I engaged my brakes, only to illuminate again when I disengaged my brakes. I was very nervous driving it home and had a few close calls on the city street stopping at stop lights. I brought this back to tustin gm's attention and they told me it's been corrected and it's now my responsibility to pay for the charges of fixing it. I refused and brought it to orange coast Buick GMC and Cadillac. They were unable to diagnose the issue and refused to believe that it had anything to do with the recall, wouldn't even check. I made a case with the manufacturer and they said my only option is to drive the unsafe vehicle until the problem occurs and then bring it into a dealer so they can find out the issue. They claim my problem does not correlate with the recall in any way shape or form, and have done everything short of calling me a liar. I now have a rental vehicle because I am depended on by my elders to bring them to and from appointments. I need my vehicle fixed, properly, and hopefully some type of cost assistance with the rental vehicle. The manufacturer also can't seem to tell me the exact date the recall was remedied. First they said January, then they said August. 763-228-4543.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While parked, the brake lights failed to illuminate when activated. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that brake apply sensor circuit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting ,service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While driving at any speed, the cruise control failed. Additionally, the brake light illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact received a recall notice for the brakes a few months later and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the brake lights illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 14v252000 (exterior service brakes). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000. Ec.
I was parked in my driveway and I had my foot on the brake, I noticed I could not see the brakes lights illuminating. I had my friend push the brake pedal and I got out and looked at the brake lights. All three brake lights are not illuminating when the pedal is pressed. If the car is running they still do not work, just the led's in the tail light assembly get brighter when the pedal is pressed. We have recently taken the Aura to the gm dealer for the bcm recall, they put in a spacer and added di-electric grease. It was functioning properly since the recall. On may 4th I realized the brake lights were no longer working. Also the power locks work intermittently on the car. Some days the locks work, other days they don't (very erratic).
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the third brake light failed to illuminate. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control); however, the failure recurred two days later. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 78,500.
I own a 2007 Saturn Aura xr I bought in 2008. It has 69,600 miles and the service engine light is illuminated. I was told I needed a timing chain replacement for $2400. 00 because it had stretched. I have since found out that gm has a special coverage adjustment #11340c on the 2007 Saturn outlook and numerous other vehicles, for the same issue. My engine code is ly7, same as the outlook and other vehicles. Additionally I've already had 1 recall on this vehicle for a brake light issue, just got a notice of a transmission issue, and I'm on my third set of complete brakes in just 69,600 miles and I need all new brakes again. Rotors are warped after10 to 15,000 miles! also the "service traction" light keeps illuminating periodically for no apparent reason. I'm getting no answers or help from gm or it's dealers.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), the brake warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
Since purchased issue with steering, had alignment before purchase but steering is just simply off. The cruise works when want and scare me when pick up speed goes too fast. We were in a group following one another and person behind me said my brake lights were not working. They were working backwards, when not applying brake, brake light was on, when applied brake lights on. There was mechanic in group he checked, said could be wiring and take to dealer. When put on signal have to hold and when it does work have to cut off. I would really enjoy this car, but do have some issues. Looked up recalls had nine, called dealership only 2 came up, but one had to do with brakes. New or used look up recalls before you make a purchase.
I have not 1 but 2 recalls on my 2007 Aura Saturn. The one in concern is the brake apply sensor which causes the service brake lamp malfunction. When I apply my brake the lights do not illuminate and when I do not apply the brakes the brake lights go on. I have been almost rear ended twice in the past week due to my break lights not illuminating. I have also been yelled at by the drivers who have almost hit me because they think my break lights are not working - which they are right. I have called gm to no avail. They tell me they are waiting for the part to be made and there is nothing they can do. I received my recall notice in July 2014 and it is now August 13, 2014 and still they can not tell me when the part will even be available. So every day I put myself in danger and risk my life only to find out that gm does not seem to be concerned. I wonder if it were their child behind the wheel if they would feel the same way??????? I will never buy another gm product and will put my story on facebook for all to see so they are aware.
I was coming to a street to make a left hand turn and the car behind did not realize I was turning because as I applied my brakes the brake light turned off instead of coming on. I have come to realize that my brake lights are on when driving and when I apply the brake then the brake light is off. A car behind stopped and told me of the incident and only slowed down because he saw my turn signal was on. This incident could of lead to a serious rear ending accident and could of even caused a death. I did notice at the time of the incident the electronic stability control light was on.
