I found an article on-line regarding the ntsb investigating brake light problems with chevy malibu and Saturn Aura's. My 2007 Saturn Aura has the same issue. On occasions the brake light will be "reversed" the brake light will be on when the brake pedal is not pressed, then they will got off once the brake pedal is pressed. The most recent occurrence was on 5/26/14. I am aware of it happening another 6-7 times in the past couple of years.

My 2008 Saturn Aura, the brake lights would come on when I wasn't pressing the brakes, sometimes when I did press the brakes they wouldn't come on. Most people think I'm being silly when I tell them that. "well, how do you see them?" I work at night so most of my driving is done in the dark and I have pretty dark tinted windows, I could see the reflection plain as day. Even stopped and got out just to make sure. Couple days after I noticed the brake lights, I noticed to radio lights (radio buttons) were not working but when I rolled up the windows or adjusted the power seats they would flicker on and off super fast along with the dash board lights. My speakers when out soon after this. I called gm numerous times about these problems and there not willing to help at all. I'm sick to death by the thought that there just gonna get away with this. It's a problem that I think needs to be addressed very soon. I was driving to work last night and I noticed this burning smell kinda like burnt wires. . . All gm has to say about it is "I can help you find a local dealer but, we cannot pay for the charges. I don't have the money at the moment to fix it. It's like $200. 00 for the test alone! I've called gm eight times in the past three months and there doing nothing. I need help!.
Brake lights do not come on all the time when brakes are applied. Brake lights come on when brakes are not applied. Cruise control shuts off when brake lights come on randomly. Called gm and they claim to know nothing about it. Have taken to local gm dealership 3 times. 1st time they replaced brake pedal position switch(did not correct problem)2nd time replaced 2 bulbs that were "dim"(did not correct problem)3rd time applied dielectric lubricant to bas connector, still not fixed. Why is there a recall for this on motortrend website dated 5/14/2014 but gm and their dealers play dumb?how can people get this fixed?.
The brake light would illuminate without brake pedal being pressed. This happened on more than one occasion. Problems with the cruise control engagement. Problems with the traction control sensor coming on without cause.
Lost brake lights - electrical issue.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph at night time, the brake lights illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Brake lights are always on and my cruise control stopped working. The brake lights are a fairly large safety concern and I've read articles online that lead me to believe I'm not the only one dealing with this problem. Read something about faulty wiring causing problems with the cruise control and brake light. . .
Vehicle is involved in gm safety recall #13036. The vehicle started, intermittently, displaying traction control and ecs tell-tail lights and not displaying brake lights when brakes applied. Approximately one month ago, the warning light indicators increased. For the last two weeks, the lights flash off and on continually and consistently every single day. In addition, the traction control off and ecs off tell-tail lights display consistently, as well. The lights are so consistent, I can only check my mileage when I turn off the engine. I am never sure if my brake lights are illuminating when I apply the brakes. The sound/notification informing driver when any warning is displayed, "door ajar, seat belts not fastened, trunk open, etc. ," and sound from the on star and front stereo speakers is at a level so low a person with excellent hearing can barely here it. It is a barley audible "scratchy" noise. I am self-employed and use my car a great deal. I am very scared to drive my car and have limited my driving almost entirely which has seriously affected my business. I worked very hard to become a successful small business owner, which, as a result of this recall, is quickly declining. I took my vehicle to ed bozarth Chevrolet and was told it could be months and months before the parts became available. To repair the vehicle. Are there any other alternatives you may be able to offer me? possibly a loaner vehicle? I do appreciate the fact gm stepped up and re-called the affected vehicles. Thank you for your attention and assistance to this matter.
When the car is braking, the brake lights do not come on. Other times, the brake lights are consistently on without pressing the brake. I was just alerted to this by another driver and am unsure how long this issue has been present. I tested this twice and the brake lights are not properly working.
This is an issue I experience a couple years ago and discussed this with the dealer. It has since returned and is getting worse. Rear brake lights are on while the car is driving and in neutral although the brake pedal is not depressed. Cruise control will not function once the break light turns on. When the pedal is pressed lightly and the breaks engage slowly, the break lights will turn off. Upon moderate to heavy breaking the lights will then turn back on. This is a significant safety issue. Upon releasing the breaks I will have approx. 7 seconds where I can use the cruise control and the break lights are off before the lights turn on again and disengages the cruise control. During that 7 seconds light breaking will still not turn on the break lights. This issue is intermittent but is appearing more regularly. During a recent 40 mile trip I could use the cruise control for a couple miles, then loose it for a couple more with the brake lights on, then regain normal functionality for a couple more, etc.
I was driving down the highway about 6 am it there was some snow on the ground. As I was driving my traction control keep going on and off. At that time I didn't know why it keep going on and off. The only problem I thought I had was for my brake light to randomly come on. Which I didn't know it cause all other functions to completely go out. I wasn't going but 35mph when all of a sudden I was spinning and in the ditch. I grew up driving in the snow knowing to drive a front wheel drive car in the snow it's better than a rear. Not until this winter have I had a problem. In this incident I spun completely out of control nothing that I could do to try and prevent it. Yes I know the snow is not safe conditions to drive in. I have clean record not once have I been into a wreck nor had problems driving in the snow. I had to have tow truck get my car out of the ditch after leaving it there cause I was too cold to be in it. Now my drivers side back is dented and a huge catch down the car.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that the brake lights would remain illuminated. The contact also mentioned that when the brake pedal was applied, the brake light would fail to illuminate. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control) however, the part to perform the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximately failure mileage was 13,000. Updated 9/4/cn.
The brake lights are on all the time while the car is running. If the brake pedal is tapped, the lights go off briefly, then come back on again. If the brakes are applied, the lights go off briefly, then come on as they should.
My brake lights turn on while I'm driving and this is safety issue for me and my family driving in the car. The dealership will not help.
The contact owns a 2009 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the brake lights failed to operate normally as the esc traction warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician stated that an unknown part had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 39,000.
Brake lights come on when peddle is not pressed, also the cuts the cruise off without warning.
For the past few years- I have noticed that my brake lights will light up without me pressing on the brake. At times- the brake lights will not illuminate when I am pressing the brake. My dad has corrected this in the past with using diastolic lubrication on a connector under the passenger side dash board- which he found to do online. The local gm dealership wasn't able to help me nor was willing to research this for me. Generally my dad has been able to keep it corrected for 6 months at a time; now it wont make it past 2 weeks.
Rear brake lights were on when vehicle was driving although the brake pedal was not depressed. When the brake pedal was pressed lightly, the brake lights went off, and then if more pressure was applied to the brakes they would come on again. Problem appeared to be intermittent but was observed regularly. Vehicle was taken to dealership and service technician performed TSB fix, which was to lubricate bcm connector with dielectric lube and relearn brake pedal position sensor in bcm. Vehicle tested ok after repair. ***note*** this vehicle was involved in a low speed rear end collision in September 2012 where the other driver hit the rear of this car as several cars were braking for a stop light. It is very possible that this problem has been occurring for some time and that this problem contributed to the earlier accident.
I was followed by a passerby to my work parking lot notifying me that the for the 8 miles they were behind me on the highway my brake lights were on. The next morning I noticed it again, could see through my rear view mirror that my brake light was illuminated. I pulled over to the side of the road, put my car in park and the break light remained on. I applied my brake foot pedal and the light turned off until I had the pedal to the floor, after I pulled my foot off the brake the brake light went back on. I verified that my parking brake was not engaged. This issue is not continuous to the point that it happens every time I drive my car but intermittent. The times I notice it are in the morning, most likely because I can see the light illuminate at that time of the day. The temperature those mornings were around 60 degrees fahrenheit. I have also noticed that when this issue is occurring my cruise control does not work, which makes sense considering my car thinks I am applying the brake. I have an appointment scheduled with my dealership to take a look at the issue and have also called gm. From the investigation I have done online I see that you were investigating this issue and I hope that you are continuing. I currently do not feel safe in this car and will be borrowing a friends vehicle for my daily commute until my scheduled appointment.
My brakes lights are illuminated, while I'm driving and not pressing the brake pedal. The brake lights go off when I press the brake pedal. The "service esc / service traction" is more-often-than-not illuminated on the instrument panel. When "service esc / service traction" is lit, the cruise control will not work.
My brake lights were illuminating like the brake pedal was being depressed; however, the brake pedal was not being depressed. When I did depress the brake pedal, the brake lights would go off completely. Then, after approximately 10 seconds, they would come back on like they were being depressed. Also, the cruise control was not working. It would not set and hold the car at a specific speed.
Driving home from work boss behind me in his car flags me over told me my brake light stayed on except when I brake they just blinked then I do not know how long this has been happening.
As I am driving the check engine light come on and off along with the ecs light. Also while I'm driving the brake lights are on and I have to either tap the brake or drive while lightly pressing the brake to have the light to go off. I have had the brake light switch replaced twice and it still does not seem to work.
My son was pulled over by the local police for faulty brake lights. His brake lights work sometimes, stay on after he has released the brake pedal or don't come on at all. I read of similar problems with this same make and model of vehicle and wanted to report this issue.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the brake lights illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. Additionally, the contact lost control of the vehicle when traveling over a puddle, causing the vehicle to spin in partially into the direction of oncoming traffic. The service traction control warning light was illuminated. Also, the contact stated that the cruise control did not function properly. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, vehicle speed control). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Cruise control disengaged and brake lights came on and stay on without hitting brake.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that a recall repair was completed by the dealer and the failure recurred months later. The contact indicated that the cruise control feature failed to work and when applying the brake pedal the light did not illuminate. The brake light stayed lit when it was not applied. The manufacturer recall remedy did not repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake light switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000. Dyd.
Three problems seem to have occurred around the same time: 1) the brake lights will illuminate when the brake pedal is not being depressed and will not illuminate when the brake pedal is being pressed; 2) the cruise control will not engage; and 3) sometimes the only way to get the gear selector out of park is to press down very hard on the brake pedal.
First noticed cruise disengaged while driving and would not re-engage. Cruise corrected itself after trying it after several miles. Second, a few weeks later, cruise quit functioning again, this time I noticed the brake lights were on while not touching brake petal. When applying brake petal the brake lights go off, and then they will come on when the petal is released. Drove 60 miles this way in the dark. When I reached destination it was dawn light and car was running in park. The brake lights were off and running lights on. When I hit brake petal the brake lights would function as normal. I don't know if cruise was working since I was parked. Personal thought; could brake light issue only be related while the auto headlamps are functioning? my investigation led to many hundreds of complaints around the internet about all of the same problems happening at the same time on Saturn Aura, chevy malibu, and pontiac g6. Ie brake lights operating in reverse of intended design, cruise control not working, and also transmission not shifting into or out of gear by the selector leaver. However, I am not noticing a shifter issue at this time. Huge safety hazard that the brake lights are functioning in reverse of normal design. However, all of the symptoms seem to be related and happening at the same time. I also found a technical bulletin no. : 08-05-22-009 with all of these related problems. Please finish investigation and move this to a recall!.
First it was my gear shift, I had to get it fixed back in may of this year 2013 because when I tried to put the car in park, and did not park at all, matter of fact, when I placed the car in park it started reversing, literally going backwards. I got it fixed but yet there seems to still be issues with the gear shift, just hasn't been the same. Now when I drive my brake lights stays on, but when I press on the brakes my brake lights shuts off. Very dangerous situation, and also inside my car the lights seem to flicker on my dash board and everywhere else lights are in the car so I'm assuming that's a electrical problem. Updated 08/15/lj the rack and pinion was replaced.
I was driving home from work when I saw my high mount brake light on the brake pedal was not being pushed. Then when the brake pedal was lightly pushed the brake lights would turn off. The problem only occurs sometimes.
Occurring often but intermittently, my brake lights remain on while the brakes are not being engaged. When the brake lights are engaged, the brake lights will turn off and will then come back on when disengaged. This also does not allow cruise control to be activated while the brake lights remain on. This issue has been reported by multiple Saturn Aura owners. The cause for concern is driver safety. Please take this issue into consideration as a recall for Saturn Aura owners.
