general problems of the 2005 Saturn ION - part 2

Power steering warning appeared after starting car. Immediately power steering shutdown which caused difficulty with steering and controlling the vehicle.

Key would not start car. Checked battery, took battery to autozone. Checked out good. Bought new battery anyway. Remote key not working except for opening trunk. Changed remote battery, still not working. Ordered new remote programmed by foy motors. Remote now working as programed car continues to have days of key not starting car. Click on unlock, then lock, unlock etc. After about 15 minutes, car will start and will continue to start for a couple of days, then the problem begins again. As I see in the Saturn recall on the internet, there is a problem with the ignition in the Saturn Ion, this has to be the cause.

Drove less then a mile, stopped at a stop sign saw smoke pouring out from under the hood my husband opened the car door to see what was going on when flames shot in beside his leg we jump out of the car and he got our son out of his car seat. The car is completely totaled. The fire department said that it started order the hood and they believe that it was electrical.

I was driving and the power steering light went on as did ther check engine light. . The car was very hard to drive. . I had it in and to a gm dealer--they said by the time I drove it up (40 miles)car didn't do it again. . While up there they could not find problem and said because the light wouldn't go on for them--they wanted to charge me $98. . I had been in touch with gm in mich. They helped me get the power steering motor replaced. At no charge. I have had the car home for about 1 week--and the same thing happened as I was driving on 10-02-13-power steering light went on. . So I had to sign a statement if it happened again they would not be responsible if not there fault. . What a saftey hazzard. . I bought the car brand new and never had trouble except for this--which it's like not having a car. . In touch with gm again--waiting for a call back. .

When driving my check gas cap light comes on, as well as the coolant light comes on within 5 minutes of driving the vehicle. This has been happening since 2013, it happens during driving on a hwy, in the city everywhere the car is driven, I push the reset button and it clears however it comes back within 5 minutes. . . .

The key gets stuck in the ignition, this has been a problem for 2 years, often have to leave the car with the key in (this is very unsafe). Today the key was stuck and would not turn, I could not turn the car off --- this is an extremely unsafe situation.

The first time it went off was when we were entering a highway. The electric alarm went off and then I found the steering was not working. It was dangerous and very hard to pull over when cars behind are accelerating to get into the highway traffic. After a restart, everything seemed okay. Then on our way back home the same thing happened for 4 or 5 times. We had to drive in the right lane at a low speed to give ourselves enough space for safty.

Also the turn signal on the front drivers side only works when my hazards or head lamps are on have tested all fuses and replaced bulb twice this is a commom complaint why isnt it being fixed?.

Almost 100% of the time I stop my car and try to remove the key, it stays locked in the acc position. Sometimes I can not even turn off the engine. I have to make several attempts to turn off the engine and remove the key from the switch.

I was driving down the highway when the power steering light turned on. Suddenly I was struggling with the steering wheel to make the car turn to get off the highway. It was really hard up until I turned it off. I turned it on again and it worked. Later this happened again while going to work, then coming back to work. And because Saturn Ions use electronic power steering, it's impossible to add steering fluid since there is no reservoir. Car wont always start, have to wait 10-20 minutes for it to start and not all of us have time to wait for this to happen, people have places to be, this happened 3 times in two months and has now happened 5 times in one week and the car shut off twice while driving the other day as well as getting stuck for 20 minutes in the cold at the gas station waiting for it to start. Something needs to be done about this as it is obviously not safe and the fact that there hasnt been a recall is ridiculous! have read so many different storys on what to replace and I dont want to be spending money on pointless parts!!.

Ignition would sometimes not turn off or release key when car was running, or turn on when car was not running. Passlock indicator was coming on at strange times. Battery constantly being drained. Ses light was on when the key was out of ignition. $960 in parts and labor.

After 50k miles key gets stuck in the ignition and takes 5-10 minutes to come out, replaced ignition cylinder still same issue, unable to turn engine off, hazard.

Having repeat problems with 2005 Saturn Ion blinker. We saw there was a recall on 03 and 04 Saturns for the same problem. Please look into a recall for the 05 Saturn Ions.

Since I purchased my car, it will not start in cold weather. I have to wait about 10 mins, try again and it will start right up. Well, about a week ago it "shut down" while I was driving down a busy street in my city. After about 4 hours of it sitting, I went back and drove it home with no problems. Then, a few days later it did the same thing while returning to work from a lunch break. I had to leave it on the side of the road and got a ride. After work, I picked it up and was attempting to drive it straight to the dealership. While driving on I-10 east, it shut down again. On the interstate!!!!! it was raining outside and the person behind me almost hit me. I don't even know how I coasted to the median, except god! my car would not drive anymore. I left it there and got a ride home with someone because I didn't want to sit in the rain alone on the interstate. When I went back at about 11:00 pm to pick my car up, it wouldn't start. I waited 10 or so mins and it started up. I drove it straight to a friends house that was nearby and left it there. I contacted gm and they advised me to bring it to Saturn, which I have done many times before, so I did. They tell me there is nothing wrong with my car. So, I told them to keep it until they figure it out because I will not put my life in danger again. I have been going back and forth with gm and Saturn and no one will take responsibility for this. Its ridiculous that this car is putting my life in danger. I refuse to drive it again. And now I am paying a note on something that I cant drive because it may stop working in the middle of traffic.

We have a 2005 Saturn Ion that more often than not refuses to start. We have had this problem for the duration of our ownership. The theft deterrent system is a possible culprit. It could be any number of other things. Turns out this is a big problem. Please help the many of us to get gm to fix this. It makes our lives harder by the day.

Won't start in cold weather security system keeps it from starting. And power steering goes out continuously. On a 90 mile trip it goes out 6 to 10 times. It happens so inconsistently with different speeds and conditions.

Two days after moving to NJ from FL as I was pulling into my driveway the power steering light came on and the steering locked up. I found that if I turn the car off and on again the steering is good for maybe 20 minutes. I have checked the fuse and took it to a shop. The mechanic suggested I do some research because a car this young should not have these kinds of problems. I have seen similar complaints on the internet about the same model. My car is a Saturn, Ion 2005.

2003 Saturn Ion won't start when it's cold.

I purchased a 2005 Saturn Ion with 32 miles on it July 11, 2005. On September 22, 2005 while driving my daughter to school in the rain, the car stalled and began to fill with water from the floor up. I had it towed to the dealer for repair and was told the left fron sunroof drain hose was plugged. They said this caused an electrical problem which caused the stall. The service dept. Said they cleaned the drain hose and all was ok. Well, we had a heavy rain, not the first since 11/2005, on August 18, 2007. I was able to start the car, but it stalled right away. In addition, the floor on the driver's side was wet. This occurred on a Saturday and by Monday when the car was towed to the Saturn dealership, there was a "pond" of water on the floor of the car. In addition, the cd player has been replaced because it ate cd's. The new radio worked ok for about 6 month's, but is now unable to pick up reception to any station. Also, at one time, the driver's side door became jammed and could not be opened from the inside or outside. The lock rod and inside door handle were bent. At the same time water was leaking through the driver's side window and the window was off the track and falling into the door. This was also repaired by the dealer because I purchased the extended warranty. This car has been nothing but trouble and I regret purchasing it. I have never had so many problems with a new car and I would not recommend this car to anyone.
