Absolutely abysmal customer service experience with orange Buick GMC orlando. I had them do two recalls on my '05 Saturn: the ignition switch (which was giving me problems due to the passlock system), and the electric steering assist (which I'd had _zero_ problems with prior, it was done as a precaution). After the steering motor was replaced, I started having intermittent power steering codes on startup with no assist (turning the car off then on clears it). They replaced the motor again. Problem still occurs. Now they're saying the steering column is suspect, it's not covered under the recall, and they won't do anything about it. How funny that the column would have been touched by their techs for both the motor and ignition replacements.
I took my car in for a recall on the steering and the said they replaced the electric steering motor. It still had no steering . The gm dealer said it was 58. 00 to tell me what was wrong, the dealer came back and said that it was the steering module was bad. Gm customer service says the module is covered but the gm dealer wont replace it because they say that the module is part of the steering column and its on covered for the steering column. I have been going round and round for 30 days and no avail. I need some help. I am sending this for my step-daughter michelle beach who is the owner.
The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. While driving at an unknown speed, the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle stalled. The dealer stated that the steering column failed. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 89,000.
I drove the car approx. 2 miles and parked when I started the car to leave the power steering didn't work, I shut the car off and sat there about a minute and started the car and things were normal again, it hasn't acted up since. I have taken it to the Chevrolet garage and they have told me the entire steering column needs replaces and that will cost me $700, it seems like an extreme measure to take to fix the power steering.
The vehicle's steering ignition column was not releasing the key after the car was turned off. Gm eventually mailed a recall after several complaints endangering the driver. On July 28, 2014, the vehicle was repaired for its recall, however, the vehicle steering ignition column was not releasing the key. Homestead Chevrolet stated that the recall did not cover the shift lock control solenoid and the cost is $500 dollars. I feel that gm is responsible for this persistent problem with the key ignition.

Power steering message comes up on my 2005 Saturn Ion 3-- I was driving and it all of a sudden became very hard to turn the wheel left or right-- I have replaced the power steering motor and it still doesn't work and now they tell me I may have to replace the whole power steering column- gm extended the warranty to 10 yrs or 100,000 miles whichever occurs first -well I have 5 years with my company and I bought it brand new and I have obviously gone higher than the 100,000 miles and now gm will not cover the expenses. . There needs to be a recall for this defective powersteering issue.
No crashes or injuries. My power steering keeps going 'out'. One time I will drive and it will be fine, I'll start it up an hour or so later and boom for whatever reason the p. S. Light is on and I have no p. S. . From what I've been able to find out, the same ps 'column' that was also installed in a few other gm cars were recalled, but, for whatever reason the Saturn Ion was not? this has been going on for about a week. I am taking it to Saturn for a diagnostics test on mon. I am also hoping that Saturn can 'clear the codes' if this is just an electrical/computer problem. If not, it seems to me they should honor the recall set out to the other consumers for the same problem!. I bought the car brand new in 2005. It has been a great car otherwise.
I was advised after calling Saturn a third time that I file a complaint on this website to go toward a recall of my electric power steering motor on my Saturn Ion 2. 1. One night in November 2009, while making a long drive on the highway, my power steering went out without warning. When I turned the car off and back on, the power steering came back on. 2. However, since then, the power steering started to go out more and more frequently. For the past two months, the power steering goes out as soon as I start driving the car and I drive without it 99% of the time. I have no idea whether I am causing any further damage to the car driving it like this. There is no warning of it happening other than the beep that occurs after it goes out. Sometimes the beep will be so delayed that I will go to turn and it is extremely hard and unexpected. This back and forth of having or not having power steering is obviously a safety issue. I cannot rely on skill or muscle memory alone to know the force I need to steer the car. I have not yet had a crash but I worry about it more and more. Parking is a huge problem. 3. I was told by Saturn that if I went to one of the (few remaining) Saturn dealers to have a diagnostic done, it would then contribute to a recall. I did go have this done, and the dealer told me it was "only a matter of time till a recall, since we see this problem every day now". They even started carrying just the motor since it was so expensive for thousands of people to have to replace the whole steering column. They quoted me a price for repair and I've been waiting for the recall. It is very hard to scrape up $600 to repair a part that they all know is defective. Do people have to crash and get seriously injured or die before it will be recalled? now to see other gm cars get recalled for the exact same power steering motor, but not mine, is unbelievably frustrating. There is no "Saturn electric power steering motor". . . They use the exact same part.
Nothing led up to the failure. Car was in perfect condition. Power steering just went out as I was driving down the highway. Will stay on for a few minutes then shut off again whenever car is in motion. Makes it very hard to turn and maneuver the car especially around other cars and people. I would not be able to swerve to avoid an accident. I have not got this repaired yet because the Saturn dealership quoted me almost $1000 to replace the steering column. I asked if they have done this before and they said they have found the problem before in several Ion models. After researching on the internet I found numerous consumer complaints with the same problem!!.
I own a 2005 Saturn Ion and the power steering was going. I took the car into the dealership, they said the steering motor had to be replaced, now they replaced it for free, but made me wait a week and sent me back out on the road with a car that had power steering that worked sometimes and not other times. Then two weeks later the entire car started to fail. The speedometer, the transmission would not switch gears, the power steering went again, and the breaks where pretty much gone. So after causing a big scene the car was looked at and found that the transmission module went on the car. So they replaced the part after making me wait two days to get my car back. My concern is why is a car that will be turning 5 years old next month and only has about 27,900 miles on it is having all these big problems. In the matter of one mouth I have has a new brain put into the car. The customer service was awful and rude. They all try to blame each other. When I went to pick the car up the service people would not even talk to me they told me to see the cashier she has my keys. I said I am not leaving here until I test drive it, she said ok, it's park in the lot on the side somewhere. I was like nice, you don't even know where my car is on your lot. So in the matter of one month I have the steering column and the transmission module replaced.
I own a 2005 Saturn Ion with about 46,000 miles on it. I love my little car and had hopes of owning it for years to come. However, my hopes of being a happy Saturn owner is quickly fading as I continually have problems with my steering column. First it was the ignition, which I have replaced twice, and now the power steering is turning off while im driving. Obviously this is very dangerous and it also not uncommon as I've found out by searching the internet on this very problem.
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion I bought new it has approx. 21,000 miles on it and the power steering keeps going out. When I shut the car off it resets, but after a few yards it goes out again. I placed a call to gm after calling Saturn north they said I would have to have a diagnostics done at the Saturn dealership in which I have done, the fix is I have to have the steering column replaced at my expense. Neither gm nor Saturn are willing to work with me. Gm has said it is not a manufacturing defect. There are several other complaints and the fix is the same, replace the steering column, funny that wouldn't be a manufacturing defect. There should be a recall on this known problem before someone is harmed or killed. Gm and Saturn are putting their customers and everyone else on the street in danger, because they are ignoring the problem. Also, my power window on the drivers side no longer works - it falls down when I try to put the window down, but it was staying up until gm told my I had to have it checked out by satrun north dealership, they said the regulator needs to be replaced, but of course they did not tell me that if they took the door panel off the window would no longer stay up and for some reason now the motor for it no longer works. Cost me $79. 00 for the diagnostics and I left there with my car worse than it was. At 21,000 miles I don't think my car should be falling apart.
The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. While driving 30 mph, the letters "pwr str" illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering became extremely difficult to turn. The vehicle was turned off and then restarted normally. The failure recurred later that day. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it would cost $1,300 to repair. The vehicle is currently still at the dealer. The failure and current mileages were 68,000. Updated 05/08/09 the consumer stated the repairs have been made. The entire steering column was replaced. The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion 3. The contact stated that she has been experiencing failures with the ignition in her vehicle. During cold temperatures in the winter seasons, the key would fail to start the engine. All of the interior lighting in the vehicle would illuminate; however, the vehicle would not start at all. Through online research, the contact discovered that numerous consumers were experiencing the same failure. She read information concerning warming up the steering column in order to restart the vehicle. The information stated that she must somehow heat up the steering column. The contact stated that shortly after she followed this advice, the engine started in her vehicle. She has not taken the vehicle to the dealer because the vehicle is out of warranty. She does not believe that she should pay for something that she feels is a manufacturer defect. The failure did not occur in previous winters because the vehicle was parked in an indoor garage. The vehicle is currently being parked in an outside parking lot. The failure and current mileages were 18,000. Updated 2/23/09 the consumer also stated the key would get stuck in the ignition when trying to turn the vehicle off. Also the anit-theft light illuminated as well. Updated 02/26/09.
