This vehicle has an electrical issue from time to time seemingly out of nowhere. There is no power steering it just shuts off sometimes it’ll stay off for an hour sometimes it’ll stay off for weeks and I can’t figure out how to fix it. It randomly fixes itself same can be said for the air conditioning and the driver side, headlight all of these electrical functions, seemingly turn themselves up or down for no apparent reason.
Power steering intermittently fails at random and steering wheel suddenly becomes immovable nearly causing serious accidents and endangerment to myself, my family, and others drivers on the roads.
It says I have 0 I repaired recalls. I have had the powers steering fail 2x. More importantly, the ignition cylinder locks up and I can’t get my keys out. I have to wait most times after turning the car off - for 3-5 minutes through a series of clicking noises in the ignition before the key will release. It is concerning because sometimes I have to get out immediately and the keys don’t release. The car automatically locks itself and if I don’t roll the window down- I become locked out. It yesterday had a issue with ignition all together and I wonder if it’s related. I was made aware again there were many recalls on this issue and hoped to get it repaired. However it now states there are none unrepaired. I’m wondering if it is a ongoing problem with the vehicle, it’s repair parts etc and if it’s just not been addressed because it’s so old that so few are left on the road. Thank you. This is a increasing problem and a daily or every time I drive it issue now. I worry too the power steering will just go out in the interstate.

Shut the car off went into the school and came out and started the car from parked position turned the car around was on a side street to cross highway 13 was ready to turn onto highway 13 and no power steering, this was part of a recall that gm issued and this new part didn't even last 38,000 miles. "takata recall" I put my key in the ignition. The car stalled for a quick second then came on gully. As I reversed out of my driveway and went to make a slight left I noticed my steering wheel had locked up. I was able to slow turn the wheel as I had to manually steer. I pulled over and parked. This is not safe.
I had the recall fixed in 2015. The same issues that I had before have returned. When driving and the tank is full, I will get a service engine light and the tank gauge will read empty. It was fine when I began driving . Upon restarting the car the error goes away. When I put my car in park and try to turn off my ignition I have to put he shiftier in park several times before I can remove my key. Today car ran great when trying to move my car after starting my car my power steering was gone. Again upon turning off my car and restarting it , the power steering returned. I called the gm recall number and a case was created but I was told that there were not any current recalls on my car. The service number is 8-4833918801. But was told that all repairs are my responseability.
I was almost involved in an accident due to the steering wheel going very hard while I was trying to make a turn. A mechanic looked at the car and said that it does not have a power steering fluid compartment to add power steering fluid.
Driving home from work suddenly I had experienced sudden loss of power steering. Research online indicates this make model and year has a known issue with this problem. However using VIN search I find no recall information. What are my options if I believe it's a manufacturer issue?.

The car was driven to Chevrolet and repairs were done but car would not start , we were told it had a bad computor and was given the option to purchase a 1600 dollar unit from Chevrolet , we did not have the funds. We got a computor after the told us this was not a related issue. Then towed it back for a third to to be to its not under warranty. We dont have money for an attorney and Chevrolet and Saturn refuses to correct there srew up. We drove the vehical in and they want us to to pull it out we dont know what to do.
The car was fueled up, when it was being started it had great difficulty. Once it was running, it was driven and a right turn was made, then all gauges died. The check engine light, the airbag light and the "pwr str" massage remained on. The car was pulled over to the side of the road and turned the ignition switch to the off position the three indicators remained on and the car refused for about two minutes before turning off.
Case # 8-1587665159 - 2005 Saturn Ion . . . I cannot get any help with this vehicle and I have gone through all the channels. The car dealership stated the ignition and power steering motor was replaced, yet, I have received no paperwork stating this was done. Ignition was replaced. If the power steering motor was replaced, it went out again while I was out of town, had a garage replace it along with the module but it also went out. Took it back to the dealership as paperwork from gm stated I should do but they wouldn't honor it because it was a used part. Previously, the gas lines had to be replaced as one could smell gas everywhere around the vehicle. I have been told by a gm rep that the car is older with a lot of mileage and problems will happen but gm officials knew about some of these issues when the car first came out . . . They did nothing for 10 years. The power steering constantly goes out, sometimes without a warning or sometimes with chimes. I am a 68-year-old heart patient that has to drive a vehicle knowing at any moment the power steering will go out and I could crash, yet, gm states pull the car off the road, turn it off and back on and it should be okay. This is not true. I am not able to steer this vehicle with manual transmission even though gm states, steering control can be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but would require greater driver effort at low vehicle speeds, which could result in an increased risk of a crash. " I purchased this vehicle last year and had no clue about the recalls. Or perhaps gm had not admitted to them yet. I have no choice but to drive this vehicle as is as it is the only mode of transportation that I have.
The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. The contact received a notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v153000 (steering) and stated that the parts needed for the repair were not available. The dealer provided an unreasonable timeframe to schedule the recall repair. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide a reasonable timeframe for when the vehicle would receive the recall repairs. The contact had not experienced a failure.
My car wouldn't start due to a related ignition switch issue that is also part of a general gm recall. The next day we went to give the car a jump start. It started up, but immediately I noticed the power steering was out making it very difficult to drive, especially at slower speeds!!!.
Gm still has not supplied the parts needed to satisfy 3 pending safety recalls. The missing part is for the power steering defect. Since this constitutes an ongoing threat to the safety of myself and the car's occupants, I'm asking the NHTSA to intervene to force gm to provide the needed parts.
On may 29, 2014 when driving from home to work on my Saturn Ion 2005. At approximately 35 miles per hour the engine did not turn off, but the steering got extremely hard that I actually drove on the other lane with incoming traffic going the opposite way of my direction. The dashboard went blank, my headlights turned off mentioning that it was approximately 0940 night time.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitating upon turning the key in the ignition and that there was a noise that continued. The contact had to turn the vehicle off and reset the computer by restarting the vehicle each time the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a manufacturers recall and they repaired the vehicle for the ignition switch failure. The contact also noticed strong fumes emitting from the outside and the inner cab of the vehicle and it continued to idle rough. The dealer has not diagnosed the fuel system failure. The contact was also included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v153000 (steering) months ago and was unable to determine when the recall repair would be performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. Dyd.
Took my Saturn 2005 to integrity Chevrolet in chattanooga, TN 4235359455 according to instructions on recall letter (13454) and received a rental (was told it could take weeks ) 2 days later got a message that my car was miraculously fixed. Josh baugh stated my car was ready and repaired. Confused, went to get my car and upon arriving at my home, the key wouldn't come out of the ignition again. Contacted josh baugh again and he said to bring the car by when I got a chance. Received a call from gm stating the part for my car was in and to bring the car to be repaired. Was just told by the wonderful dealership car was repaired. Took my car back and no repairs had been done. They lied. Left my car again and about a week later they call and I go to pick it up. Told me the battery was dead I needed to buy another one I dont think so because they were the ones that ran the battery down by leaving the key in the ignition (I just happened to stop by got something out of my car a day after I left it opened the door there was the key still stuck in the ignition. I also submitted receipts in June of 2014 for ignition replacement for the same car. No response resubmitted receipts Dec 2014 josh baugh email needed the original receipts. February 5th 2015 took the receipts and said the receipts needed to have the VIN # but they could see it had my name and 2005 Saturn and the ignition had to replaced by lock and key comp because key was stuck and run battery down (at 10:30 at night)they could write the VIN # in for me. To my surprise (not really) a message the reimbursement couldn't be done because wasn't a VIN # on receipt its not like we are all trying to get reimbursed for something we didn't pay for or some government bailout!I am contacting you to let you know this dealership lied and continues to try to prevent customers from receiving the promises of the recall.
Reached out to dealer in April regarding ingnition switch and cylinder, and power steering assist recalls. Parts have allegedly been ordered for the ignition switch and cylinder recalls. However, never been called stating parts are in. Never been asked to make appointment to bering car in. Never any mention of the power steering recall. Dealer I contacted is Chevrolet of homewood. 18033 halsted st, homewood, IL 60430. (708) 799-2000. Everytime I call, I am told parts have not been received yet. However, I did receive a card in the mail from Saturn stating their records indicate I have not had my car in the recall yet. Would very much like to get in. Card makes me believe dealer may be blowing off. Need assistance in making this happen.
In March 2014 we noticed the air bag light was staying on and the cruise control and horn had stopped working, I assume the air bag would not have worked. After checking online I found out that this is a common problem with Saturn Ions and the sir coil needed replacing. On 4/10/2014 we took the vehicle in to have the sir coil replaced, we picked it up on 4/11/2014. On 4/12/2014 less than half a mile from our house the power steering went out. We brought the car back home and parked it until we could take it back to the dealership who replaced the sir coil. On 4/15/2014 while driving the car to the dealership the power steering went out 3 times, the first time we were pulling out into traffic on a busy road and almost caused an accident when it went out in mid turn. The dealership says that the work they did replacing the sir coil would not have caused the power steering problem that it now has.
As I was driving my 2005 Saturn Ion, my message center chimed and read "pwr str". I attempted to steer and noticed my power steering was inoperable.
Have a 2005 Saturn Ion that was part of ignition switch and cylinder recalls. Have had issues with ignition and electrical since 2006, but was "put off" by local Saturn dealership on at least 6 occasions when I questioned them about the problem. Finally received recent ignition recall, and contacted chevy dealer to fix. Dealer paid for rental car until repair was done (about 1 month) as instructed by gm corporate. I asked dealer about power steering recall as corporate had stated my vehicle was involved in that recall as well. Dealer found no history of recall in their system (checked on 2 occasions). I called gm corporate 3 times and was told the same story. . . My car is part of power steering recall (as per VIN), and I would receive my recall letter shortly. It is now June, have not received recall letter for power steering. Ignition working okay now, but other electrical problems still occurring. Alert chime for headlights and turn signals does not work. Unable to change radio station on digital factory radio with digital screen turning off when I attempt any station change or press any button on the radio. All windows but driver's back window wouldn't roll down. Was told by chevy dealer that the electrical issues were not related to ignition switch, may be related to dashboard malfunction. Windows were related to door motor (replaced myself, 3rd time for this). Dealer refused to fix electrical issues, and refused to proactively fix the power steering in accordance with corporate recall cause they didn't have paperwork. Dealer was going to charge me large fee for fixing any of the other issues except for ignition switch and cylinder. Gm has made substandard vehicles for years and dragging their feet to fix their mistakes. Can't trade or sell my vehicle til this is fixed. Feel like I've been driving around a death trap. Do something some one please!!!!!!.
When driving the battery light will appear and then the car cuts off. Once restarting the battery light goes away and doesn't appear. Has happen two additional times before. I have had the battery replaced by gm dealer and a few months after in April it still occurred. The power steering assist was replaced and the same time the battery was.
We bought our 2005 Saturn Ion used sept. 4, 2012,(87,812) before even could take off lot they had to install an ignition cylinder and cut new key, and the throttle was stuck could press all the way to floor, and would only get up to about 20mph. This was also fixed. (or so we thought). Since our purchase, we still have trouble with the key getting stuck, it not turning off with car still running, or the car won't start, it happens so much that our daughter who drives it just figures that's they way it's suppose to be, because when take back to dealer either it won't do it for them or does't do it for a month or so. Now the warranty has ran out so if it happens again they told us we had to take care of, well it happened again today, she parked would not shut off, called dealership, they can't do anything because gm hasn't given them recall yet! was in accident on Jan. 2, 2014 front end air bags did not deploy! not sure why not!!! this July was coming home and driving down road car just shut off while driving about 30mph and had to manually try to get car off road without hurting car or anyone else's car, after sometime got car to start again and got it home, called dealership their response if happens again bring it in. And still to this date sometimes her throttle will stick, as a parent I'm holding my breath every time she leaves our drive in this vehicle. Please help soon.
I was driving off the highway and the power steering turned off completely hule I was driving. This could be so different to people who don't know how to handle a car without power steering. . . .
Making a left hand turn the automobile shut off and on dash display read pwr steering coolant the car was difficult to steer to the side of the road. Once pulled to the side of the road I turned the key over and instantly the car was like new driving ok till I got home. Googled the problem and saw many power steering complants on the Saturn Ions.
Power steering warning appeared after starting car. Immediately power steering shutdown which caused difficulty with steering and controlling the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the power steering assist malfunctioned. The vehicle was diagnosed and the power steering assist motor was replaced but the defect was not remedied. The contact was informed that the power steering assist control module needed to be replaced also in order to remedy the defect. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 105,000.
On October 31, and November 1 of 2013 I was traveling approximately 40 mph and in nearly the same spot the Saturn lost complete power and died. Both times I was able to get off the road. After the second incident we had it towed to a garage where they replaced the battery. I did not drive it again and currently it is in storage as I purchased a new car. I drive 350 miles a week to work and need dependable transportation. When the recall came out we realized we may have had trouble with the ignition switch for up to 2 years. There would be times we would shut the car off but would be unable to take the key out. It would take up to a minute before clicking and we could remove the key. That was when it was in the off position.
The contact owns a 2005 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle independently veered out of the lane and crashed into a cement median. There were no injuries. The front driver's side bumper was damaged. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle after the crash occurred. The failure recurred two times. The failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 44,821.
2005 Saturn Ion. Consumer writes in regards to power steering going out constantly. The consumer could not afford the $500 repair bill, for the steering issue, and has since sold the vehicle.
My 2005 Saturn Ion is not running and I feel it is due to the items that are on the recall. Ignition switch and power steering . I called the local gm dealer and he entered my VIN# and said that all he could take care of is the ignition switch that there is no recall for the power steering. I looked on the gm website and there is clearly a recall for the power steering as well for the Ion. They are not wanting to honor it because they say it isn't listed with the VIN#. This is not right. I want something done because this is very unsafe for my daughter to drive when it does run. I feel that due to the ignition problem, it caused something else to go wrong and now it does not run at all and I want it all to be taken care of. Especially now that I am getting the run around from the service department at the gm dealership. I have always preferred chevy products and expect chevy to take care of its customers.
