On cold mornings car will not start. Radio and lights work. The passlock security light on the dash blinks. Leaving key in ignition for ten minutes then the car will start.

Then my key got stuck in the on position and could not cut the car off. Had to look on google for other similar problems to find out how to get the car to turn off.

2006 Saturn leave you stranded in the cold weather as the car will not start and you have to wait till the in side of the car warms up. Car has been back to dealer I have just given up.
I am writing to inform you of the troubles that I am having with my 2006 Saturn Ion. My Saturn doesn't always start on the first try (radio and lights come on, but the engine does not turn over). On most mornings, whenever I try to start the car, it doesn't start and an icon showing a car with lock shows up on the dashboard. However, after waiting approximately 20 to 30 minutes, the car will start sometimes. On one occasion, I even called aaa thinking it was my battery and was informed that there is something wrong with the pass-lock system (the car thinks I am trying to steal it). On Tuesday, December 28th, I took the car to north shore Chevrolet of smithtown in st. James, NY and was informed that I needed to have a new ignition installed and that should solve the problem. I picked the car up on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 29th and drove home. However, on Thursday, December 30th, when I tried to start the car, the car wouldn't start. I tried starting the car at least 5 to 7 different times from 8 10:30am but the engine wouldn't crank. Finally, at around 10:45 am the car started, I waited approximately 15 minutes and drove it back to the north shore Chevrolet of smithtown in st. James. The north shore Chevrolet of smithtown informed me that each time they attempted to start the car, the car would start; therefore, they couldn't or wouldn't be able to diagnose the problem. I picked the car up from north shore Chevrolet of smithtown on Monday, January 3rd and had no problems getting to and from work on Tuesday, January 4th. However, on the morning of Wednesday, January 5th, the car wouldn't start, once again.
We have a Saturn Ion 2006 which is now experiencing ignition issues. First the car would not stop running (hazard!) in my driveway. This was due to the key being stuck in the on position in the ignition! we had to allow it to run out of gas prior to finding the emergency key release that Saturn has noted. Now the car will not even start and when I called the customer service line, the response was hardly comforting. Looking online it appears that there are numerous complaints logging this issue. It appears that there are quite a few people that would like to pursue a class action lawsuit against Saturn/gm as there have been absolutely no investigations, recalls, or even an acknowledgement of said issue. This is the first time the ignition has caused us issues, but looking at the online complaints, it won't be the last. When will it be investigated? will it be investigated after an accident happens perhaps with my 2 children in the car? will it be classified as an urgent issue then? see how many people have had the issue below via the link embedded. . Ignition key broke off in the ignition. Had a locksmith remove the broken key. Car would not start. Locksmith replaced the ignition switch mechanical portion. Car will not start. I went through the resetting procedure to reset the security passlock system. It would not reset and had the car towed to the Saturn dealership. I have seen a large number of complaints from Saturn owners about this same complaint. The only way to be able to get the car running again is to take it to the Saturn dealership to be repaired, and they charge a lot of money to do this procedure. They also are very familiar with this problem and the repair of it, because they have many Saturns being towed in and doing the repairs on them. Due to the large number of problems in this system of the Saturns there should be a recall issued for this industry wide known problem.
1. My vehicle began having problems starting in hot weather last summer. 2. Last Monday, may 24, 2010, my car would not start at the end of the day. Usually if I waited ten minutes or so and tried again, the vehicle started. This time I attempt three times in a thirty minute period and the car did not start. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership where I purchased it. Fortunately the next day, there were similar conditions and my vehicle would not start in the afternoon. 3. There were no codes there showed up on the car's computer. Due to the voltages not matching between my vehicle and the manufacturer's specification, the dealership replaced the ignition switch. I have not had any problems since even though there are been four or five days of hot weather.
My 2006 Ion has only 24,000 miles and has always been garaged and properly maintained. Suddenly, it would not start. . . . . All dash lights on, headlights worked, etc. But engine would not crank. I tried later and it started right up. Next day, same routine. When I got it running, I went straight to the Saturn dealer and they replaced the ignition switch. My car is out of warranty, so I had to pay. At the time, I did not realize that so many other Saturn Ion owners were having the same experience. I called Saturn customer service and was told there were never any bulletins issued on this problem and there was no way of determining if there were any other complaints about this issue. I've read that replacing the ignition switch doesn't always take care of the problem. I am very concerned about getting stuck somewhere and don't think I should be expected to sit in a cold car, hoping the 10-minute waiting period will allow my car to start.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start in cold weather. In addition, the ignition responded as if it did not recognize the key. No matter what key was used the vehicle would not start for 20-25 minutes. The dealer stated that it would cost $90 for a diagnostic test and this didn't include any other repairs. The manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 61,000. The consume wanted to know what was being done about the problem, and when would she be notified. Updated 03/29/10.
My car will not always start, it gets a picture of the car with a padlock on the dash but will not even attempt to turn over. It does at least three times a week and today it did it four times alone. It will start in exactly 10 minutes from the first time I tried to start it. So in the mean time my children and I sit there in the cold and wait. Or my asthmatic children hopefully do not stop breathing. I have called Saturn numerous times and all they tell me is its the ignition housing we can fix it for over 300 dollars but it will go out again in three months, which they say will be the pattern for the life of the car.
Ignition failed to start vehicle. Vehicle had to be towed.
Occasionally, in the morning, our 2006 Saturn Ion 2 will not start. The battery checks out, everything lights up on the dash display, but turning the key gets no result. If we remove the key and wait 10 minutes, the car will then start. I recently visited a Buick service dept. Where the service person told me that this is a common problem, sometimes corrected by ignition switch replacement (which we had done in 2007, under warranty) and if that does not work, there is an electrical control unit which will be replaced. The total for these 2 repairs? in excess of $1,100. 00 !! here's the real kicker, he said that this will not necessarily remedy the problem! and g. M. Wants another $3 billion in bailout funds?? the funny thing is that the 1994 Saturn which my son now has, with over 100,000 miles on it has been one of the most reliable cars we ever owned. The 2006 Ion has only 27,000 miles on it and has been back to the dealer again and again over it's life so far. This ignition problem has happened about half a dozen times, so far. Only in the morning.
Car will not start on cold mornings, getting worse - had battery tested and nothing wrong.
2006 Saturn will not start due to faulty ignition. 4 months out of warranty. Called every Saturn dealer within 200 miles. All know of the problem and know immediately what is needed to fix it. They tell me that this has been an ongoing problem for a few years. Yet no recall.
Ignition switch is bad. The car will not start, the computer will not disarm.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start in cold weather. In addition, the ignition did not recognize the key. He inserted the other key into the ignition and the vehicle started. The manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 11,000. Updated 02/24/09. The dealer replaced the ignition switch. Updated 02/24/09.
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion. Approx 20% of the days when the weather is cold the car will not start. If I wait for 10 minutes, it will start. Searching on-line discussion forums indicates this is a common Ion problem related to the security system's failure to recognize the key. Today's occurrence promoted me to file this complaint.
Saturn Ion will not cold start on cold mornings. The key turns to the on position but will not start the vehicle. It does absolutely nothing in the ignition mode. No crank-nothing. This is the fifth time this event has occurred. Fist occurred at 40k. Still happens at 49k. When outside temperature rises the car will start normally. The Saturn dealership where we purchased this ( our ninth Saturn ) is now closed. We were referred to a chevy dealership. Can't help wondering how this could help. It is obvious, that despite our brand loyalty, we are now getting the cold shoulder in more ways than one.
I purchased a 2006 Saturn Ion 3 four-door sedan in April 2007. In the past two months, I have had three or four occasions where the car would not start. This typically occurs when the weather is cold, especially when there has been frost overnight. What will happen is that when you first put in the key and turn it to the start position, nothing will happen. There is no crank or engine noise other than a slight buzzing sound sometimes, but the car will not start. If you hold the key in the start position, the security lock icon appears on the dashboard information panel. If you keep trying to turn the car on, it will not work, but if you wait exactly ten minutes from the initial attempt to start the car, it will then turn on. I have tracked this problem down to the ignition switch or the passlock security system on the car. Many drivers of 2003-2006 Saturn Ion vehicles are complaining of this issue, and it is very clearly a faulty system that will not be fixed by a simple part replacement.
On my way to take my infant son to the babysitters before going to work the ignition switch in my 2006 Ion ii would not start the car. I took the car in that day to have it fixed. Two mornings following this I am at work getting out and the key is locked and the car has to stay running. I then have to leave work to take it back to the dealer again and they say it is a different complaint. Well, the complaint is all about the ignition system. I have missed work twice this week because of what seems to be an ongoing problem for Saturn owners.
Ignition problem. Car will not start. Passlock engaged. Turn key until passlock light stops flashing. Wait 10mins and car will start. Service bulletin is out for problem. The bulletin number is 04-08-45-005d and it's titled ignition system - no crank / no start / dtc's b2960/b3033. It's dated March 15, 2006. Covering models: 2003-2006 Saturn Ion. This issue is wide spread and is know by gm. This is a known defect. Nhtsa should do the correct thing and make gm issue a recall.
I purchased a 2006 Saturn Ion in oct. 2007. About 2 months later we started experiencing problems with the car not starting. They key will turn, but the car will not start, especially early in the am when my son is trying to leave for school. It will start a couple of hours later however. My son will leave for college next year and I'm extremely concerned about him being stranded somewhere due to this problem. I've read hundreds of similar complaints online and so far, Saturn has not issued a recall. There is something seriously wrong when this many people have the same problem and Saturn will not acknowledge it and do the right thing. This is an ongoing matter. It happens 4-5 days a week - usually in the morning, but has also happened at night.
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion. When the temperature is near or below freezing (32 degrees or lower), my car will not start for several minutes. This has caused me to be late for work. This is a repetative problem that has not been fixed by my dealer.
Once a Saturn vehicle (mostly Ions) are exposed to cold temperatures at or approaching 32 degress f for several hours (work / sleep) when the engine is not running the car will not start. It is a failure in the ignition switch. Saturn admitted this in 2005 when I had my 2004 model ignition switch replaced. But now my 2006 model is doing the same thing and the key will also get stuck in the ignition while the car is still running. . Read more...
