6 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

My car began with my ignition switch sticking and I received a recall notice in the mail so I took it to be corrected. . . . After supposably being fixed I'm still having the same problem. Now about 5 months ago I started smelling a faint smell of gas. . . Now its so severe I can't drive the car. It's actually dripping onto the ground. It takes 3 or more times to get it to crank. The gas mileage has gone down from 30 to nothing. From the VIN search my car isn't included in the recall for this which is ridiculous. I don't have the money to have this fixed. I don't understand why gm isn't taking responsibility for this. Lives are at stake here. Please help.

While driving I heard a series of chimes and power steering indicator came on. I then was unable to turn the steering wheel. When I tried again I had to turn wide into traffic because even though I was turning the wheel as hard as I could I couldn't control it. I contacted gm about the recall and they told me that along with that there was the ignition switch recall. I was given a loaner because I was afraid to drive the car after the above incident. I was contacted on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 and was told the ignition switch parts were in. I informed them that I couldn't drive the car to kelly Buick GMC because of the power steering issue so they made arrangements to tow the car to their location. Now they are telling me to turn in the loaner, because even though the wheel is hard to turn , that it is safe to drive. I told the service person that I am a middle aged woman and do not have the strength in my arms to turn that wheel and that I am afraid. I was told to contact gm which I will in the morning because now I have no way to get the car from kelly Buick, when they knew when they towed it in I was afraid to drive it, because of the struggle to turn the wheel. They told me they would see what they could do, however they did nothing to the power steering and I do not know what to do at this point. I will contact kelly and gm tomorrow about this situation that I have been put in.

16 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

I had the ignition switch replaced about 4 months ago prior to the recall announcement. The air bag light had been going on and off ever since I bought the car. It was found at that time that a add on passive kill switch relay had been placed in the air bag relay location. Not long after the key would not come out of the ignition and the car could not be turned off which is when I took it to an auto repair shop who replaced it with another ignition. Now, the air bag light has been coming on while driving and then going off again. It looks like gm is still selling the faulty ignitions. I have received the recall notice. It says however that they do not have the working parts with no indication of when this deadly part can be replaced. What is one to do? yes, I saw their statement that we should park the car until the repair can be made - when ever, if ever, they bother to have the parts. How do I get around until then??? have there been any other reports of the issue that I reported on this site prior of the alarm going off at random times - no strong winds, trucks going by or persons around the vehicle even though I do not set the alarm on? I had to disconnect the battery until I got it to the shop days later but since it was not doing it then they could not find the issue. I suspect the entire electrical system in the Ion is faulty.

My car was being parked in my driveway on January 4th around 12:30 a. M. , when the key would not turn the car off, nor would it come out of the ignition. That just so happened to be the weekend of the famous polar voprtex, featuring a snow storm and record-breaking freezing temperatures. I drove my car to the nearest repair shop, and requested an emergency road service technician through my insurance company. When he arrived, the only way he could turn the car off was to remove a fuse. Once examined on 1/8/14 by the repair shop, it was determined that the car would then have to be towed to the nearest general motors dealer, advantage Chevrolet in bolingbrook, IL. After being notified by the dealership of what the problem was, being quoted the price of $431. 00 to repair it, I researched the ignition switch problem and discovered over 500 complaints on the same issue, make, and model car as mine. I then notified general motors' customer service department to try and at least get some money off the repair bill, but to also notify them that there is a defect with the 2006 Saturn Ion ignition switches.
