general problems of the 2006 Saturn ION - part 1

The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the instrument panel and radio were intermittently inoperable. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed to turn to the off position as needed intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated while driving and turning the steering wheel to the right to make a right turn, the steering was significantly wobbly. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v171000 (electrical system) and 14v153000 (steering). Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing a fuel leak. The vehicle was taken to the Subaru dealer where it was purchased. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. An unknown Chevrolet dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that unknown recalls were previously performed on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 85,200.

The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while exiting a driveway and making a turn the steering wheel became without any warning. The contact checked the power steering fluid, but the vehicle had power steering fluid. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 90,000.

We purchased this vehicle recently. 1 week later we discovered loss of power steering assist while attempting to parallel park. We spoke with the seller (repair shop) and they discovered the recall notice 14v153000: loss of power steering assist. When I attempted to schedule a recall service at a gm dealership it was shown that this vehicle already had this particular recall service performed on the vehicle. 1. Power steering assist 2. Loss of control of steering. 3. No (issue is intermittent) 4. No (original recall was performed though; it is happening again) 5. No warnings.

Steering errors.

The same exact issue with the steering creating the 2014 recall has occurred again with this vehicle. It has very low mileage and is not driven that much. So the fact that the recalled part that was replaced by gm is once again having issues is distressing. The power steering went out during a local drive, less than 5 miles. There was a recall in 2014. Recall number: 14v153000. Recall date: 03/31/2014. Component: steering:electric power assist system. This should be monitored to determine if the replacement part is also defective.

My vehicle had a complete failure of the power steering while driving down the road at about 50 mph. Fortunately, there was no vehicles around me and I was able to manual steer it to the shoulder. The steering power assist has completely failed. I contacted Saturn who looked up the VIN # on my vehicle. Saturn said there is no open recalls on my vehicle. I looked on your website and there is a recall for this exact problem on 2004-2007 Saturn Ion's and I have a 2006 Saturn Ion. I mentioned this to Saturn and they said that there is a recall but it's VIN # specific. I said how can this be when my car (which falls under the same model and years recalled) is having the same failure? they didn't care about my question and simply said it's not covered and I can take it up with the NHTSA. The failure is the electric steering motor. They use the same electric motor (exact same oem part number) in all the Saturn Ion models and the chevy cobalt. Is there any assistance you can offer me? I really do not have $1000 to have it repaired and I already have put quite a bit of money in this vehicle. I had planned on keeping it. Now I can't even sell it.

Driving down the road and the went to turn the corner on to i90 west from highway 56 south and it was vary hard to pull oit of the turn like it locked up almost put me into the ditch.

Power steering goes out then when sitting for a period, it will reset and start working then the problem repeats itself and I have no way of knowing where it will happen again, sometimes on the highway, hard to pull off road. First time it was stationary with "power str" on dashboard, sometimes it happens in motion down the street or roadway.

The power steering keeps going out sometimes when you start the car it will not have power steering and sometimes when your driving it will go out and is almost impossible to drive.

When driving the vehicle the steering gets very hard and then cant steer we have to try to pull over and shut the car off for a few seconds then restart it to go.

I was highway 56 turning onto interstate 90 and the car was vary hard to correct back from the turn it wanted to stay in the tuun and almost out me in the ditch in minnesota.

The key gets stuck in the ignition and will not come out. This happens when the vehicle is parked. The auto parts store told us not to buy an ignition switch. They said we needed to check on the recall for this Saturn. How do we find out if all recalls for this car have been repaired?.

I've had my car in the shop twice for the ignition switch. One of the times gm paid for it due to a recall within months the car was back into passlock light coming on car stalling while in movement key stuck in ignition have to wiggle it to get it back into the turn off position. This last time as of today the car will not run you have trouble getting the key out of a lock the passlock is showing on the car dashboard.

There was a recall on the power steering. I had the replacement part done. 2 years later the power steering replacement. I called the dealer and I called gm. They won't do anything. They need to recall the recall. Do I have to replace my power steering every 2 years. Very upsetting.

On March 9,2016 my daughter drove to the store from my work place. When she return to my job while in the parking lot the stirring wheel locked and she couldn't turn. Good thing she had made it off highway or it would have been an accident if it went out at light as she turned on road to my work place. I had my uncle to pull car to family mechanic shop they then checked on it and told me to order power stirring motor. After then my uncle found out there was an recall on power stirring gone out while driving causing accidents. My uncle took the car to GMC in dublin,GA on March twenty fifth 2016. The GMC just checked on the car April 4,2016.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the igniton switch was replaced from a previous NHTSA notification; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. My wife and I, had the ignition recall work done at sport cheverolet in silver spring, maryland. We had no problems with our ignition. Second recall, also work was completed at sport cheverolet. We hadn't experienced any problems with our power steering. 04/10/2015, we now are now having the problem as described in the recall! what are our options at this time?.

Electric power steering quit working while driving; power steering error message also appeared on the driver information display. This vehicle has had the power steering recall performed recently (approximately 3 months ago - recall consists of replacing the power steering assist motor). When it quit working, I pulled over, shut off the car, then restarted it, to see if the power steering would start working again. Same error, still no power steering. Power steering returned unexpectedly while going around a turn approximately 3 miles later, causing the car to turn much sharper (as the effort needed to turn was unexpectedly reduced).

Apparently either the "new ignitions" are also faulty or the dealership lied about having replaced it as they did about having completed the 3rd recall repairs (I'd recieve a letter from gm some weeks later saying the parts were now in and to take the car to the dealership to have the work done). This evening at about 5:35pm pacific time I came home and yet one more time the key would not come out of the ignition as it was in the alt positon. I tryed 5 or 6 times over a span of 10-15 minutes to no avail. The headlights had to be turned off manually as did the overhead light. I was getting my house key off the ring so I could get my tools out of the house to one more time disconnect the battery and decided to try to remove the key again. It was at that point that the key finally came out of the ignition. The reason I suspect it may be the dealership is that although the Saturn was still on the recall list for the third repair on the safercar. Gov site until about a week later, coincedintly a few days after filing a complaint with gm over the continuing rude and disrespectful treatment at the dealership.

I am writing to report fraud by roseville Chevrolet. This is in reguards to the Saturn recall of the electric power steering #14115. Evidently the dealership, roseville Chevrolet has submitted a claim that they have repaired this defect. They have not. I had taken my car in for the first two recalls. The parts for the third were not in yet. I told the service manager to keep my car until they could fix the 3rd recall as I did not see why I should have to continue to risk my life for gm. A week later the manager called saying the 3rd recall was done. When I went to get the car I only recieved two reciepts. I didn't have my reading glasses so could not see what work had been done. I later looked at the papers and neither had the 3rd recall listed. Weeks later I was notified by Saturn that the parts were now in. I checked the safercar website and found my car was no longer listed for the 3rd recall. Apparently they altered the records claiming they have done the work, which was not done. What exactly am I supposed to do to get that repair done? what if anything will be the consequence for their committing fraud and putting my life in danger by assuring that I can not get this recall repaired? I spoke to gm after filing a complaint about the dealership as I have had nothing but problems with them since I bought this car new in 2006. I informed them that I would not go back there for the 3rd, I have no reason to submit myself to more abuse. It was after filing the complaint that suddenly my car that it no longer showed on the safecar site. Roseville Chevrolet has out done themselves with criminal behavior. What if anything at all will be done? how do I get a copy of this claim?.

I was driving with my 3 yr old daughter and went to turn on our street and almost hit a truck head on because I had little strength to turn. The power steering became to hard to turn.

Another vehicle crashed into the contact causing the vehicle to spin out of control several times and second vehicle crashed into the contact. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported.
