In December, 2012 we purchased a 2007 Saturn Ion from a local dealer. Shortly after purchase we had issues with the electrical system and the ignition key which we contacted the dealer about and were reassured that it was no cause for concern, subsequently we allowed my significant other's daughter to take the vehicle to college with her as she needed a form of transportation at school. On black Friday, 2013 she encountered a minor motor vehicle accident in a parking lot where it is my understanding the vehicle shut off. I have contacted general motors and requested a courtesy vehicle for her which they had agreed to provide through the national highway traffic safety administration's web site and they state one excuse after another why they cannot do this. General motors has exhibited a complete lack of any concern for the driver's safety and they are now at the point where they want my significant other to drive 500 miles across state pick up her vehicle, take it to a dealer and pick up a rental car, which will cost her a $50 deposit and when the repair, which is a manufacturers defect, is finally completed she should do this all over again without any compensation from gm. This is totally unacceptable and in complete conflict with what gm has told the NHTSA they would do. At this point in time, I respectfully request NHTSA investigate this matter and propose an agreeable resolution.
November 10th at 4:50 pm I left the grocery store I pulled into garage at 5pm put my car in park and the key would not move in the ignition so the car would not shut off. I opened manual to page 105-106 and tried the shift lock release and that did not work. I called dealership and their service department was already closed and were going to be closed the next day on veterans day. So I placed a call to aaa and they had to send out a lock smith to turn off the car and replace the ignition. 3 hours and $275 dollars later because aaa covers $100 of it my car was fixed. This is not a safe thing to occur in a vehicle. I googled this and saw that many others have had this issue and am very disappointed that there has been no recall on something like this.

The manufacturer key wont start the car without spending over 10 min. Turning the wheel back and forth and finding just the right "spot". Key will come out fine, even without shutting car completely off at times. This is insane, from what I've read, there are more than enough complaints similar to this to warrant an investigation or recall. This is not only a safety feature, its just shows horrible workmanship. Already been a part of the original power steering recall before it became a recall. People need to complain, keep complaining and demand gm to take responsibility for this crap.
Early in 2013, we noted some moisture in the trunk of this vehicle. In late may, we hung a "damp rid" desiccant device in the trunk and noted that the "damp rid" device rapidly saturated with moisture and also formed clumps and/or crystals in the trunk of the auto. (the "damp rid" in the trunk was saturated within two weeks, whereas it takes a couple of months when hanging inside a closet in the house 1-888-326-7743). This week, I inserted a brand new 9 volt battery into a kidde model number kn-coeg-3 carbon monoxide/explosive gas monitor and placed the monitor in the trunk. Within 24 hours, the monitor was chirping. The peak level of gas after 24 hours in the trunk of the car was 10. (this household monitor can not discriminate the precise type of gas in this particular case). Today, I opened the trunk and cleaned everything out. The source of the moisture was clearly noted on the passenger side inside of the trunk because the interior of the trunk was actually muddy close to a one way flapper vent/valve on the passenger side. The one way valve measures around 4 inches high and 6 inches long. I am reporting this because of the proximity to the gas tank filler cap on the passenger side, 12 volt ac delco battery on the passenger side in the trunk, and auto emissions from this Saturn and other cars. Inhalation of any or all of these fumes or vapors can lead to health problems including erratic behavior, drowsiness, etc. Of course the risk of explosion and corrosion of sensitive electrical and fuel components is accelerated in damp conditions.

I was driving down the street and lost my power steering capabilities. I pulled into a les schwab service center to have them see if I was out of power steering fluid. Learned that they were not able to ascertain that. When I turned my car back on, the power steering worked. I don't know why it stopped, but since my car is in the recall for the ignition, I would also like this problem looked at. How can I make sure that this issue is looked at too?.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the ignition failed and the key could not be released from the ignition. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the ignition cylinder and adjusted the gear shifter however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. We bought a 2007 Saturn Ion for my daughter's first car about a year and a half ago. Several months ago she was coming home from school traveling down interstate 5 going about 65 miles an hour when all of a sudden her power steering shut off and jerked, causing her to almost hit the car in the next lane. Now every time she drives her car, about 12 or so minutes in, the power steering will shut off again. If you shut the car off and restart it, it's fine for a while, until it shuts off again. It does this every time she drives, without fail. She's scared to drive her car long distances, fearing that it will turn off again and cause an accident. Upon researching I discovered many other complaints describing exactly the same results with 2007 Saturn Ions. I'm afraid that, being a new driver, my daughter's safety, and the safety of others, is in jeopardy.
Power steering failure - clicking from around the steering column followed by immediate loss of power steering assist and 3 beeps from the info center. Message "pwr str" displayed in info window.
First off the car started sputtering, when stopped to fill with gas wont restart for several minutes, has just died in the middle of traffic for no reason. Main concern now is the constant loss of power steering, first happened to my wife on the interstate with our 2 young grandchildren at 65 to 70 miles an hour, it just quit working scared the crap out of her she has 3 heart attacks already and am very surprised it didn't happen then!!! it has been getting more and more constant as of late, every 10 to 15 minutes if your lucky sometimes a lot quicker, you have to turn the car off then it woks however many minutes then makes a clicking noise then the alarm chimes and boom no steering again. The chevy cobalt (same steering unit and pontiac g6) have had recalls for this exact problem so why hasn't gm stepped up to the plate and fixed these crappy Ion 3's.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the key became stuck in the ignition. The vehicle had to be turned on and off to remove the key. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who repaired the vehicle but the failure continued. The contact was unsure of the exact repairs. The manufacturer has not been notified. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
The car made a loud noise when I pressed on the gas. It would not accelerate fast enough for the highway and the speedometer was not working. I'm guessing the car could go at max, 20mph. The speedometer remained on 0 while the acceleration had to go up to 3 or 4 just to keep the car moving. The check engine light was on. I took the car to gm dealership/certified Saturn service right then, and they charged me $360 to replace the transmission control module. The service guy told me that when mechanics first did the electrical diagnostic check, the car failed 32 markers, but when they did an electrical diagnostic check after replacing the transmission control module, the results confirmed that all the car's problems have been fixed.
The electric steering keeps going out and took it to an authrized Saturn dealer and they said that the would have to check it to see why its going out as there has been recalled on the electric steering in the pontiac g6 which has the same problem and carries the same system and the dealer told me if its not the motor I have to pay 97. 50 for them to find out its not the motor in the steering plus what it cost to fix it there has been problems with the electric steering there should be a full recall on all the one that uses the same part with the ones that have been recalled all ready this is a big safety issue and gm should pay to correct the problem not charge a customer to check whats wrong with it as there is still some warrenty on the car this problem needs fixed and I dont have the money to pay out the car only has 55,600 miles on it shouldnt be having problems like this hope you can help with this issue and get gm to do a recall on this for theses cars power steering failure like that makes the car hard to steer.

We have a 2007 Saturn, almost everytime we drive it ,the key locks and will not come out. It is very frustrating. We live in a very hot climate and sometimes it takes up to 20 mins. To get the key out. We took to the Saturn store, and they said they will not cover it. I have read a ton of complaints on this same problem in Saturns, somehow they seem to be being ignored.
The key started getting stuck and we couldn't get it out. This happened for about a week. Then this past weekend with my daughter and 2 small grandsons in the car, the key came out but the car stayed running! we stopped at the local gm dealer and the mechanic said he had just dealt with 3 other gm cars with the same problem. I contacted Saturn and was told there was nothing they could do. Why is gm not issuing a recall for this? Honda just issued a recall this week for the same problem. If they can do it, why can't gm?.
I have a 2007 Saturn Ion car. I bought it new. Yesterday 6/25/10 while I was driving I saw a message on the bash board. "trac off' within minutes all the lights on the dash board began to flash, messages were showing up on the dash board. I didn't know what to do. I pulled over on the side of the road and call my mechanic. I drove the car slowly to the shop and barely got there before all of the lights went dead and the car stopped working.
2007 Saturn Ion engine disables while driving. Dealership unable to diagnose problem, no codes. This vehicle has been at the dealership for the better part of a month and a half. This problem has occurred every time I have picked it up from the dealership, then towed in to re-diagnose. No codes at this time. It has been suggested that this car is unsafe for the consumer to drive, as this has happened on the highway and surface streets as well. There are no lights indicating that the engine failure is going to happen. The car looses all power and has to be turned to the off position and in park to restart. This is an ongoing problem and seems to have no apparent resolution. This needs to be fixed before an accident occurs. I was told by gm to pick up the vehicle and drive to and "see if it might happen again" although it happens everytime I drive the car. There is nothing that triggers the problem it happens when it happens.
