73 problems related to other fuel system pump have been reported for the 2007 Saturn ION. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Car cuts off a/c wont work unless on max and makes noise when turning. Cpu issue like rpm fluctuates I think its the fuel pump and gas pedal assembly cpu problem and its jerks alot dealer said aint nothing the can do bout it but they suppose to fix it with in 30 days of purchase time. So it cuts off while riding and jerks while im on the breaks.
Fuel leaking from top of fuel tank, coming from broken port on the fuel pump. This is the same issue as documented in gm recall 09226c, but because this vehicle isn't in any of the states listed I have to pay for it out of pocket. How can a recall only cover vehicles in certain states.
The vehicle suddenly lose of fuel while driving. After access suspect fuel pump problem.
Had to have fuel pump module replaced for exact problem as described in recalls of same model year Ion's but not for this VIN. Have retained photos and failed pump module assembly. Fuel odor from rt rr of vehicle first noted, then within days started dripping fuel from just in front of rt rr wheel well - found to be cracked pump module.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed fuel leaking out of the vehicle onto the ground. On several other occasions, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to dick genthe Chevrolet (15600 eureka rd, southgate, mi 48195) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 174,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that there was premature rust and corrosion associated with the heat shield around the supply lines on the front driver's side wheel. There were also strong fumes entering the vehicle due to the failure. The dealer stated that the supply and return lines needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had a service campaign for the fuel pump, but the remedy provided no solution. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
The car wouldn't start right away after not running for awhile. It also smelled like gasoline. Upon taking it to the dealer, it was discovered there was a fuel leak and the fuel pump was replaced. After investigating recalls on the 2007 Saturn Ion I discovered a recall in effect for cars in certain states, ohio was not one of them. The recall mentioned that it was for cars registered or sold in the "hot" states. The dealer wouldn't even let my daughter drive it while waiting for parts. This recall should have been more widespread.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. While driving various speeds, there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Tl-the contact owns a Chevrolet Ion. The contact stated while the vehicle was in park position there was abnormal smell of gas. The contact then notice a fuel leakage coming from the fuel pump right behind driver seat. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel line has corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,000. Ng.
Fuel crack around fuel pump. Leaked fuel. Dealer covered and fixed under special coverage bulletin 12191. There is a recall for this but not in my state.
Strong gas odor. Sometimes gas on the ground under the car. Took it to draper Chevrolet and they determined that the fuel pump and the gas tank needed to be replaced. The filler neck on the fuel tank was cracked. Charged me $855. 80 for the repair.
The car failing to start on the first ignition cycle and a smell of fuel while driving and after the car as turned off was noticed. A week later fuel is now considerably leaking from near the rear of the car. A recall has been issued for a fuel pump problem on the 2007 Ion, but only in certain states, illinois not included. Obviously, this is a major safety issue and yet another defective part/system from Saturn/gm. As gm dealerships are booked repairing the faulty ignition switches, I have to wait over a week for the repair to get looked at. The choice is now risking fire/explosion on the car as the leak is very near the hot exhaust pipe or not going to work for a week.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that a strong fuel odor emitted while starting up the engine. The vehicle was taken to an authorized mechanic for inspection which located fuel leaking over the fuel tank due to defective fuel pump. The vehicle was not paired. The dealer advised that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000. Because of a 'hidden recall' by gm, I was driving down the road when I smelled fuel. My fuel pump had become defective, causing a leak, and therefore, rusted fuel lines, which then broke. This 'hidden recall' was not covered at the dealership and I had to get gm involved on a corporate level, and even then, I still had to pay for their mistake! my car was steadily dripping fuel, and aside from emptying the tank there was nothing I could do about this. It is dangerous, and gm knows about it but will not acknowledge the danger in the situation. I have children. What if the car would have caught fire? then would they have listened?? it is absolutely absurd that they would not warn owners of these vehicles (even the dealership claimed to know many others in my situation exactly) when it is something so dangerous, let alone make them pay for the repair. I am absolutely disgusted.
The Saturn Ion 2007 that I own is bleeding gas. Fuel lines are rusted near the plastic retain clip. Fuel pump plastic is cracked, fuel tank has rusted in a small but significant spot. Recall #09v419000 is not being adhered to by gm. This is the most unsafe problem I have ever heard of. I live in virgina, very humid state. 100% humidity is common. I should have been notified of the problem since it is recalled. If this has not caused multiple fires and fatalities it would be a miracle. My complaint is the state specificness of the recall leaves lots of people without notifacation of a very serious problem with those cars.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated he was intermittently had a problem stating the vehicle. The contact also stated there was a strong persistent odor for gasoline. The vehicle was taken to a independent repair facility. The mechanic stated the fuel pump had a fracture and would need to be repaired. The manufacturer stated the contact's VIN was not affected by NHTSA campaign number: 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline) or NHTSA campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000. Az.

The portion of the fuel lines near the fuel pump, which is hidden by a flexible cover underneath car, was discovered to be severely rusted nearly to the point of leaking, requiring fuel line replacement. In contrast, the portion of the fuel lines exposed underneath car was still in pristine condition. (car has been garaged at night since delivery. ) although gm has issued a recall for fuel pump leaks, the problem often is instead the fuel line has rusted through and is leaking. This problem would not be expected, and thus appears to be due to a Saturn design or manufacturing defect. Because of the prevalence and significant safety issue, the service manager expects gm will eventually issue a recall for the fuel line problem. Because the portion of the fuel line subject to severe rusting is hidden behind the flexible cover underneath the car and not the exposed section, it is likely to be noticed only after leaking occurs, resulting in a fire hazard. A recall appears desirable to inspect particularly the hidden portion of the fuel lines near the fuel pump and replace them if needed. Although a manufacturer must provide a remedy to safety-related defect a no cost to the owner, in this instance gm refuses to pay for the fuel line replacement unless the NHTSA compels them to issue a recall.
I own a 2007 Saturn Ion 3 quad coupe 2. 4l. I am currently experiencing what I feel is exactly described in recall 66615 (gm's campaign # is 12190. . . This recall is an expansion of 09v419). My exact vehicle is singled out in this recall. The only thing is that my car was not bought in nor registered in one of the qualifying states. However, due to my service to this country. . . Being stationed in California, the car was in the state of California. For nearly 2 years. I imagine the states singled out were singled out because of the heat in those locales and the propensity of plastic to dry rot. As you can see from the recall description, the plastic fuel pump is susceptible to cracking/leaking. As a member of the marine corps from 2006-2010, I was not required to register my vehicle with the state of California. The car was bought in iowa. . . Where I now currently reside. I would appreciate some consideration to be included and covered under this recall. I am experiencing a very steady gas leak from the vicinity of the gas tank. My car has lost much responsiveness, is difficult to start, and is now inoperable because the leak has gotten far worse. Please feel free to call or email me for any more ?'s, at which time I should also be able to provide you with the VIN. Thanks in advance!!.
Fuel pump cracked; difficulty steering; ignition switch failed.
The fuel pump cracked. The car could not be driven without gasoline spurting out on the road. There was a partial recall in several states but I was not covered by this. There was also an extended warranty in others that expired this past year. It cost $500 to repair and gm would not offer even partial compensation. The fuel pump was partly made of plastic is inferior and should be recalled everywhere. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact had not experienced any failures with the vehicle until the dealer repaired it per a fuel pump assembly recall. Months later, the contact noticed strong fuel fumes emitting inside the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
Cracked fuel pump housing.
General motors is recalling certain model year 2007, Saturn Ion vehicles, some of these vehicles have several special coverage issues, however a condition in that the plastic supply, or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, which could cause a fuel leak. This vehicle has been identified as being covered under this particular service policy, as well as other special policies. Gm notified us, and good Chevrolet reportedly replace the fuel pump module, as covered by gm. From December 10th of 2013 to present - we are still dealing with aspects stemming from this recall issue; per our many calls to gm, as well as visits to good Chevrolet about the fuel smell and vehicle's performance good Chevrolet and gm's have been questionable in their response to our very serious concerns. Courtesy tire, our regular maintenance center, discovered that good Chevrolet damaged the fuel vent when replacing the fuel pump module, which compounds the original issue for the special policy. Ever since their negligent servicing of the vehicle gm and good have been denying any wrong doing. We filed a complain with the washington state attorney generals office and now am filing this complain due to the dangers associated with the fuel issue.
Top of fuel pump cracked and leaked gas fumes in car. Gas leaked out of car as it was driven. Faulty fuel pump problem that was recalled in a few other states. Family member has smelling problem due to past surgery and could not realize gasoline leaking from the car. Mechanic stated that fuel pump should never have cracked in this area and could have resulted in a much worse scenario.
I was driving on the expressway when I lost all throttle response. After investigating I found it had to be the fuel pump that quit. When investigating why the fuel pump quit after a new one did not fix my problem, I noticed the wires got too hot and burned black and actually burned through the positive wire at the connector going into the fuel tank. Hot wires and burining wires inside a gas tank is not a safe combination. To top it off, I had to drill through the connector and wire in a pigtail connector purchased from the dealer since they would not sell me the whole fuel tank cover to replace it properly. Only after haggling with dealers that would not give me part number or sell me the fuel tank cover that they finally gave me the part number of 25815572 but it is under restriction to sell so that is why they sold me the "backyard mechanic fix". My worry is still that I have my family travel in the car and I do not want this thing catching fire or exploding. Is there a defect in the part is why it almost caught fire on me? and is there still a defect and that is why the part is on restriction? what is the correct, safe fix for my family? I just want a safe working vehicle and a explanation in why it is so difficult to get the part I wanted at first. It is running now but it is with the drilling through the connector, sealing it, and soldering the new wires in. I was hoping for thicker wire to maybe handle the current to the pump or an assurance that the vehicle is safe. Sorry, one last complaint. My Saturn is a California emission vehicle but is currently in mi. Why is this not covered under some of the recalls? is this like the CA cancer warnings that are only in that state? my car will only explode in those states and not michigan?.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion 3. The contact stated that he smelled fuel while inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the fuel pump had failed. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was currently being repaired. The failure mileage was not available. Mh.
I purchased a 2007 Saturn Ion in the fall of 2008. My grandaughter took the car to California and decided to live there. A few months ago she called to tell me that she kept smelling fuel in the car when she drove. She took the car into sears and they told her she needed a new fuel pump. She kept smelling fuel and found out the sears did not repair the car so sears gave her a full refund after she complained. She took the car to a service station and had the fuel line replaced because she was told it could not be repaired. . . . It was cracked. After she had the car repaired I received a notice about the recall for Saturn Ions and the fuel system problem. I had her send me the bill for the repairs. The letter gm sent stated that if we had already made repairs for the fuel problem, they would reimburse. When I go to the gm website now, it states that the 2007 Saturn Ion has not been recalled. I have also tried calling gm with no success. Where do I sent the bill we have? why is gm not acknowledging the recall for the 2007 Saturn Ion for those bought or registered in the state of California?? thank you!.
After replacing the fuel pump last year I am now facing a cracked gas tank. I asked the mechanic if it could be due to me hitting anything, I had not been in any accidents, and I was advised there wasn't anything to indicate and outside damage. Just that the tank itself has worn away.
The fuel pump assembly unit on my 2007 Saturn Ion has cracked and developed a leak causing a significant fire and environmental hazard. There was no incident that lead to the crack, just a faulty part. There was a recall issued for this same problem, but it does not extend to the state in which I reside.
Tl - the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. The contact mentioned that after inspecting the vehicle he noticed that there was a fuel leak underneath the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that there was a leak on the fuel pump and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in recall NHTSA campaign id number: 09v419000 ( fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 130,000. Pm.
I had smelled a very strong gas odor in my car and contacted gm/Saturn customer service on November 28, 2012 in regards to the smell and to find out if my car was included in a recent recall for the fuel pump. I was told that the fuel pump recall was only included in certain states and my state was not included. I took my car to my mechanic on 12/14/12 and they confirmed that my car smelled of gas due to a faulty fuel pump and it needed to be replaced. They also said that the fuel pump faults were due to being in states that high heat. I live in maryland and the fuel smell came about during the summer which is very hot in the state. I contacted gm because I feel that I should be reimbursed for a faulty fuel pump since it is a fire and safety hazard.
The car, when just weeks old, smelled of gas coming from the front grille, a strong odor 5 minutes after shutting it off. Dealer checked said all was normal. Along with this issue was a loss of vacuum in the brake assist canister when it sat in the driveway ? when you got in the car the brake the brake pedal was rock-hard. There should be 5 ? 10 pumps of vacuum in the canister on any car. This is noticeable in a stick shift (it is) or any car you have to step on the brake for the interlocked starter. Dealer checked also said was normal. Then about two years after the smell of gas stopped altogether and the power assist seemed normal as the peddle had power when the car was left to sit. About 6 months ago the gas smell started coming back when it was parked ? this time for just a minute or so ? intermittent. Then about 3 months ago it started getting worse ? not just when the car was shut off but now gas odor with closed windows at the first few lights you came to after starting the car, with windows shut in cold weather. Now the odor is strong, sometimes nauseating at traffic lights. The brake pedal issue also returned in February on very cold mornings. I do not know if a vacuum leak and a fuel smell are related here. I cannot see any leaking gas or spots on the pavement and I have looked a few dozen times over the two time periods this problem(s) have occurred. A very strong smell of gas and no visible leak. I am familiar that car is recalled in southern states only for a fuel pump that has cracks in the plastic return lines ? and also have read (although cannot be sure if this is true leak fuel in a pool on top of the tank and not drip and the evaporating odor will make its way forward to the engine compartment or the back wheel wells - I can smell gas in the rear wheel wells also although sometimes not as strong as the grille.
There is a crack in the plastic fuel line coming out of the fuel pump. I see online there is a recall for this problem but gm says my car is not included. Even though it is for the exact problem the recall addresses.
Began smelling an odor of gasoline when I got out of my car. Didn't think much of it until it happened several times. Took my car (2007 Saturn Ion) to a gm dealer for other, unrelated issues and the service manager told me the fuel pump module was cracked. I contacted gm after learning about the recall for the same problem on cars in other "warm weather" states. However, they told me because it was not part of the "recall" they would not help cover the cost of repair even though it is a safety/fire hazard. I've read similar complaints from all over the country, so this is obviously affecting more people than gm will admit.
