The contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. The contact stated she had her vehicle serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 14v171000 (electrical system) and NHTSA campaign number: 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system). The contact mentioned that when she came to pick up the vehicle the exhaust pipe was visibly on the floor. The contact immediately informed the service manager since the vehicle was not in that condition prior to the repairs. The service manager agreed to repair the failure by reattaching one side of the exhaust pipe with a wire hanger. The contact reluctantly took the vehicle home and while on the way home the air bag, alternator and battery light illuminated on the instrumental panel. Shortly after the lights illuminated, the vehicle stalled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

My car has been driving fine and one day the security light and a few other warning lights went on as well as "trac off" came up on the screen. My gas gauge also went down to zero (even though I had a full tank. ) the car still ran fine and no codes came up so I was told to replace the alternator. I replaced the alternator and now my car will start but I have to wait 5 minutes before it will let me put it in gear. Everything turns off and warning lights come on as the car "warms up?" after 5 minutes it will let me put it in gear but warning lights abs, brake, and airbag will still be on. If I restart the car then, the lights go off. I have no idea what is going on!.

I checked electrical above, for affected parts, but I am not sure if that is correct. It was the ignition. I was driving on whitney Ave. (towards new haven) in hamden, CT. Traffic was moderate due to the time of day (3:00 p. M. ) suddenly, and with no warning other than the dash lighting up with engine lights, my car stopped. There was enough momentum to turn it into the post office driveway. Brakes and steering did not work. Fortunately, the cars coming up behind me were able to swerve to avoid hitting me. The incident caused a traffic jam and a mess in the post office. A very kind man offered to help push the car out of the incoming driveway. He put it in neutral and pushed it out of the way. I have aaa service. The call was made and the car was towed to firestone on dixwell Ave. , since I live in the vicinity and could walk home. I have the receipt for work done by firestone. The job cost me $262. 82. I was on my way to I-91. I dread to think of what could have happened, if the car suddenly stopped in 65 mile an hour traffic. (I jest, since trucks regularly pass going well over 70!) I wish to send my bill to gm, but no address is provided on the recall letter. Please advise. If I do not hear from you, I will go to valenti motors in wallingford to ask for assistance in obtaining an address to send my bill. I expect full compensation for the costs associated with this incident, and will provide the firestone invoice. In a separate recent incident, again, on my way to an interstate, the car went dead again. This time, I came to rest up against a barrier between the road and a salt marsh! in this case it was the alternator. The car was towed again to firestone, where they replaced the alternator and the battery. I write this, just in case gm has ignored another problem. My 2005 Saturn Ion will refuse to start. I know it is not the battery or alternator. All I have to do is let it sit for a minimum of 15 minutes and viola it will start. I believe it has to with the pass code in the key ignition.
The problem began within the first month of the car's purchase. It was cold outside, and the car wouldn't start. After about 30 minutes, it started right up. After visiting several mechanics, I was advised to replace the alternator. Since then, I cannot count the number of times that I go out to the car and it won't start. Now, I am told that it 'may be' a faulty ignition switch. I am a teacher, and cannot be late for class. I have 34 students waiting for me every morning. Now, I have to go out to my car, 30 minutes early, and start it. If it starts, I run out 30 minutes worth of gas for fear that it won't start if I turn it off. If it doesn't start, I waste 20 to 25 minutes in the morning getting it to start. This winter, it has not started no less than 15 times. This car is not dependable.
I bought my 2004 Saturn Ion used with less than 60,000 miles on it, I had it less than a year when one day it wouldn't start, I thought it was the battery or the alternator, but none of that fixed the problem. This problem progressively got worse and started happening very frequently, more often when it got cold out. After about 10-15 minutes the car will start, I have had to wait up to 45 minutes for the car to start sometimes. This problem has made me late for work, left my children waiting for me and left myself after work closing a bar one night at 3:00 in the morning. The more I mentioned this problem to people the more I found out I am not the only one with this problem, it has to do with the security pass lock system and ignition. If this is such a frequent problem for Saturns why hasn't there been a recall ever to had it fixed, and why are dealerships allowed to sell used Saturns without correcting the problem or making buyers aware of this potential problem, it is simply dishonest!.
Car does not start when weather is very cold. Changed battery and had alternator checked. Took it in to etna battery to have checked out. Car started when it gets warmer or the sun warms up the car.
I am writing to note that my 2003 Saturn Ion 3 does not start up in the cold, even though the battery and alternator are in good condition. It happened once in 2005, and then I was lucky enough for the rest of that winter and the next. At the time, I was told by a Saturn mechanic in 2005 over the phone that this problem does occur with Ions in cold weather. The problem recurred this past Monday and this morning. This afternoon I went online to seek out guidance in taking care of the problem. . Read more...

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion hybrid. While driving 55 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted approximately four minutes later. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they replaced the catalytic converter. The second failure also occurred while driving 55 mph. The contact stated that the interior lights and the steering failed. The vehicle was able to be restarted approximately ten minutes later. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they installed a wire from the hybrid battery to the generator. The contact believed that the electrical system was the cause of the failures. The current mileage was 6,036 and failure mileage was 6,000. Updated 01-16-08. The consumer stated a new catalytic converter was installed.
Defects with his 2006 Saturn Ion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a malfunctioning passenger seat belt, there was a problem with the driver side door and a noise coming from the alternator/generator.

Relay van. The rear sliding doors intermittently open, and consumer is concerned if it is in an accident, consumer couldn't get children out. The dealer can not duplicate the problem, and have replaced the alternator with a higher amperage one. This helped with the lights dimming problem, but not the indicator alarm sounding or the rear door problem.
