I have a problem with the power steering lights goes on and it is difficult to drive, the car has less than 60k miles and really bad that the manufacture doesn't take care of this malfunction. I need to know how to get it fix this problem because it seems that the problem came from the manufacturer.

Shortly after buying this vehicle, I have had numerous failures of the power assist steering system. At any speed, at any time, "pwr str" dis displayed on the obd display, simultaneously as the motor stopped functioning, forcing me to unexpectedly manually steer the car until the ignition was cycled and the system reset. Sometimes this happens 1-7 times a day. I have personally came close to having a single car accident due to power assist failure while curving. There are no other previous failures of the steering equipment leading up to this issue.

2003 Saturn Ion . Consumer writes in regards to vehicle recall issues
the consumer stated the vehicle was purchased new and she was never informed of a recall regarding the body control module which she was having problems with. The consumer stated the problem first started when the driver side window dropped when she closed the door. Then it would not stay up. Then half of the dash went black. The next window would go up and down on its own with no contact of any type. Then the controls to the electric windows stopped working completely and the electronic lock/opening device would not open the doors any longer or lock the trunk. The consumer was informed she would have to pay for a diagnostic test. The consumer also stated there was also a problem with the transmission. The vehicle did not react to being in park, so therefore, she had difficulty removing the keys from the ignition. The O2 sensor and the ignition switch had to be replaced. The consumer stated the transmission was never properly replaced. On one occasion, the vehicle stalled and the steering locked up.

My Saturn Ion has developed a transmission problem and I called gm and received a special request number and 48 hours later was contacted and after answering a few questions I was told that my car did not qualify for anything. The reason they gave was because the car has a salvage title. I had the car inspected by the state of mn and now have a prior salvage title. The damage to the car was cosmetic and has nothing to do with the poor transmission that gm sold to the public. Since then I have heard nothing but bad news stories about this transmission--someone needs to be accountable.
I was traveling approximately 40 mph when the power steering lamp came on and the power steering failed. After pulling to the side of the road, and turning the vehicle off, I restarted the vehicle and the power steering was restored for about 20 minutes. The days following this, I encountered several power steering failures until I had the power steering box replaced on may 10, 2011. I researched the internet and found many other 2003 Saturn Ion's owners had experienced the same failure. I contacted a gm representative and asked for reimbursement. I was told that there was no recall for the power steering for my year and make of car. I had also complained about my transmission because I had declined repairs on my power steering. Winegarden pontiac informed me that they would not further check the cause of transmission problems because the power steering failure presented a safety concern. I had the power steering box replaced at a cost of $537. 94 minus the $127. 00 diagnosis fee! I strongly feel that a recall should be in place for the power steering failure, and all who had the problem corrected out of pocket, should be reimbursed at gm's expense. The power steering failure has contributed to an accident in houston texas! I would not like to have human life lost before this problem is given serious consideration! updated 06/08/11.
The contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. While parking, the shift lever failed to go into park and the key became stuck in the ignition switch. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the vehicle was working up to standards. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was not available.
Passlock light blinking vehicle will not start in ambient temperature below 30 f

My car is only 5 years old and now has 36,000 miles on it. Whenever it is cold outside my car does not start. All of the lights work and the car will make a click, but the car itself will not turn on. I have been stranded multiple times at night in the freezing cold with no way of getting home. Two times I have been stranded in a dark parking garage. This is constantly re-occurring problem and I see that hundreds of people have had the same issue. When I have taken my car to the shop I have been told it is electrical problems. This problem should be recalled as many people have the same problem. Also, I have had many issues with the fuel system. I have already had the fuel injector replaced, and the fuel tank replaced. It is in the shop again today because there were more issues with the fuel system. The fuel in my car was not heating up the the right temperature, and I was getting about 30% less miles per tank than before. Over the few years I have had cords to the fuel system replaced, removed, adjusted, etv. I have spent thousands of dollars on repairs for a 5 year old car with 36,000 miles on it. And it is the same problems happening over and over.

Vehicle was unable to be shut off, key was stuck in the ignition, I unhooked the battery and the vehicle was still running. This same vehicle had a recall on the fuel pump module and was leaking gas, had this occurred at the same time it would have been very unsafe for the car to have been running the entire time with a gas leak. Fortunately I had just repaired the fuel pump module 1 week prior to this issue with the ignition.
The contact owns a 2006 Saturn Ion level 2. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift properly between gears. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure since it occurred intermittently however, he believed that the clutch master would need to be replaced. The contact did not inform the dealer or the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was 49,000 and the failure mileage was 45,000.
I own a 2006 Saturn Ion 3. My problems began in 2006, although I didn't realize it at the time. When I first got the car, while driving to work, I stopped at a service station. When I returned to start the vehicle, the vehicle would not start and I couldn't pull the key out of the ignition. My first thought was that it was something I had done wrong. Fast forward to 2008,now the car just shuts off. The light indicating power steering started coming on and then the vehicle would shut down whenever I would come to a stop or simply turning a corner. The power steering light no longer come on but the vehicle still continue to stop. As I back out of a parking space the vehicle will shut off and has to be turned back on at least 3 to 4 times before leaving the parking space. When I finally get it started and while driving through the parking space or down the road it shuts off again. It shut off when ever I have to slow down behind another vehicle and I am terrified that I am going to be struck and killed. I took it to a local auto dealer who tested it and said it was possible the power steering module or some other part dealing with the steering wheel. I was told to take to another autocare center to have it a diagnostic test done which they quoted me $100. 00 just to check it. Nothing has been done to correct the problem at this time because I'm even more afraid of the repair bill, but from reading all these other complaints that are like my story, I am sure there is a defect with this vehicle and I want to know why haven't there been a recall on this vehicle. My vehicle only has about 87,000 miles and only had 18miles when this problem began.
2007 Saturn Ion power unit light comes on and the steering is hard to turn. Checked fuses and there is no problem. Car does not take power steering fluid, it is an electric power steering unit.
When I would try to turn my car off I could only turn the key half and would take a while before I could get the car turned completely off and the key out. On April 17th I went to my night job it took 3 to 4 hrs for the key to finally come loose after trying to shut the car off. When I got home that evening around 10:30 pm it took till 4:30am to finally get my key out. On comsumeraffairs. Com there is 47 pages of complaints just like mine starting back from 4-8-2006 and the last one was reported on 8-11-2010. Why hasn't gm stepped up to the plate and recalled and replaced this issue. I had to spend $442. 65 for a new shifter and cable.
In ambient temperature of 29 degrees, my vehicle would not start. Passlock light was blinking for 10 minutes and then stopped. After that, I was able to start the car. This has happened before.
Ignition would sometimes not turn off or release key when car was running, or turn on when car was not running. Passlock indicator was coming on at strange times. Battery constantly being drained. Ses light was on when the key was out of ignition. $960 in parts and labor.
A few weeks ago, my 2006 Saturn Ion lost power steering capability while I was on a major highway (doing 65mph)! needless to say, I narrowly avoided a major accident and was dismayed to subsequently find out that I have a defective steering column motor (according to the local Saturn dealership) which will need to be replaced and is not currently under warranty. I bought this car in 2007 somewhat reluctantly since it already had 40,000 miles on it but it was the only one available after a major accident with my first Saturn for immediate delivery. I was at a new job and needed a car desperately. I chose Saturn again because of the brand's reliability, excellent customer service and my own personal satisfaction as a previous Saturn owner. When I called customer service last week to check whether this power steering failure was a recall item, I was told that it wasn't and that I would have to register a complaint to see what options were available for reimbursement for repair. Today I was informed by gm/Saturn customer service that they will not cover the $525. 00 repair of this major defect since the warranty expired and the car had according to them, "excess mileage" (at 50,000 miles, a 3-yr. Old car should not lose a major component such as the power steering to my thinking). I was seriously concerned enough about this defect to contact you to see if you can bring some resolution to this issue. I've done extensive research online and found that thousands of Saturn Ion owners have experienced the same loss of power steering while in precarious driving situations. Is gm waiting for a fatality before they issue a recall, or is it because the company is bankrupt that they decided to play russian roulette with our safety? needless to say, my trust and faith in gm is compromised and I am not willing to pay for a repair that should be covered.
After starting the car and putting it in drive, the car will not accelerate. The engine idles no matter how hard you press the pedal. This vehicle has a electronic throttle body (no mechanical linkage) so the problem is electrical. . Today was the third time in that past month this has happened. For the record, this car has been into the dealer no less than 9 times for electrical issues (a few body control modules, a couple ignition switches, abs modules, trans control modules, radios, instrument panels, etc, etc. ) but this is the first one I think may cause injury. Getting rear-ended at a green light or having a car run into the driver side is a distinct possibility when the car 'all of a sudden' wont accelerate. Gm has repaired every problem this car has had to date, but will not admit there is a problem with the car. I am now out of warranty.

The power steering keeps going out in the car. When this happens it becomes very dangerous to drive. It first started once every couple of days. Now it happens every time I turn it on and drive more then 100 yards. L have contact the dealership and they have told me that there is no recall for it. But I have looked online and numerous people have complained about this issue. The car is a lease and they said I am over my warranty even though I only have 36,000 miles in 5 years.
L was driving my 2006 Saturn Ion which l bought brand new in 2006 going to pick up my granddaughter in howell mi I was on interstate with my cruse control on as l went on exit interstate,l turned off cruse control when l did that it shut my car down completely ,l was merging on another interstate with no engine running no power steering and unable to restart engine . There was no where to pull over off road safely , l was almost killed car had to come to a complete stop to restart . I have had this happen to me 3 different times , l have taken car to chevy dealership many time complaining about this matter, they said they could not find any problems , l have stopped using my cruse control . L really have a lemon sunroof does not work sun roof leaks , the car starts when it wants to , lam retired 65 years old and take very good care of the Saturn Ion , l would be afraid to sell this 2006 Saturn Ion to the public , l don't want to kill anyone , the car sits ,not using it , won't sell it, what can be done? and there is no retail value for this car . Now there is a recall on ignition switch I feel so very sorry for the people that lost their lifes,l was lucky that l was not one that was killed ,as l said earlier, this car went to dealership 3 different times on this matter , last time l took the car in was last summer 2013 , mechanic drove Saturn Ion and told me there is nothing wrong . The car sits.
Vehicle initially had trouble starting, made strange sounds, check engine light on,would not go over 25-30mph. , followed towtruck to Saturn dealer, was told this was a common problem with this make & model, there were thousands of complaints known and that gm was aware of it but had not recalled. Turned out that it was the ignition module, switch, coil, harness etc. , just under $800 to repair. It's still sitting in the garage. Thing is. . . I purchased this car almost new b/c I had an older car & wanted a new car in case the other quit! wow. Who new? power steering also groans and its full of fluid. Because of this,(ignition), the key had to be manually pulled out, to get the engine to stop running, all the electrical system remained on, had to disconnect the battery, was told do not know what else may have been damaged as a result, the dealer said the transmission may have been damaged as a result. Yet they don't want to recall because of the re-organization? what about my safety? god knows what could have happened if I was on the highway when this happened!.
While driving my car on multiple occasions I have lost the ability to control the steering wheel. Also, I have experienced my car turning off while driving which thankfully has a recall on it but I want the power steering to be recalled as well because it has caused an accident and multiple near misses.
Engine started a faint squealing noise on 24 north during rush hour traffic, was in the fast lane and managed to get over and pull out of the lane, however there was very little shoulder and it was not safe to get out of the car, my two younger children were in the back seat, had to drive on the edge of the shoulder to the next exit which was approx 11 miles before I could get off the interstate to a safe place, traffic going approx 80 miles per hour and car would not go more than 50 mph, as getting off the interstate timing chain broke in middle of the intersection bystanders pushed car to a safe location. Had it towed home, was told tension rod seized and timing chain broke. Had to replace total engine for 5k, car out of warranty, less than 5 years old and 88k miles. Mechanic could not find any reason for seizure as car had plenty of oil and had been maintained regularly.
A week ago, I submitted a complaint about losing reverse in my transmission. I would like to add that the dealer replaced my transmission free of charge or labor costs. I applaud jay wolfe Saturn of tiffany springs, missouri. For taking this corrective action.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle stalled without warning on several separated occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The VIN number was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000. St.
Does not crank, does not start in cold weather & leaves you stranded.
Periodically the Saturn will lunge fwd will stopped or even driving the rpms spike while driving. Breaks will not stop this issue. I've put my car in the ditch to miss major wrecks . . This has been going on for yrs. Also the losing power when turning has happened but not as much as the accelerator sticking. Bought a new car just for my kids to be in they aren't allowed in the death trap Saturn. Wish someone would investigate these problems because they keep getting worse as the yrs go by. Have had the vehicle since it was new. . Would even be willing to show anyone these problems if they would sit in this death warrant.
The litany of problems with this unsafe and unreliable vehicle is long and varied. Multiple transmission problems, electrical issues, losing power while driving, etc. . Gm and Saturn knew of these issues, especially the ones concerning the vti transmission, yet they chose to continue to put the public at risk by denying their responsibilities to correct these problems. The only real way, in my opinion, to make this right is to fully recall and replace these vehicles. This car has been nothing but a nightmare since I bought it brand new in late 2003 and continues to be a hazard. Please force gm to do the right thing and get these cars off the road before someone gets killed.
Almost from day one, the traction control does not turn off. The dealer says they hooked up a computer to see if it turned off and they said it does, but, as soon as I left the dealer, I hit the button to turn off the traction control and I spun the tires and the traction control kicked on and the car had no power pulling out into traffic. Yet the dealer says there is nothing wrong.
I bought a 2003 Saturn Ion 3 March 17, 2003. Within 2 weeks the car had a cracked cylinder with coolant leaking into the engine. Saturn corp. Recalled the car. The purchase of 1g8al52f33z149331 was canceled 4/17/03 and I purchased a 2nd 2003 Saturn Ion 3, 1g8al52f83z171972, on 4/17/03. The 2nd car from the beginning had transmission problems shifting between gears, jerking up and down from 30 mph to 70 mph, kicks when started, rattles loudly in reverse, and steering problems coming out of turns. The car has been in service 4 times (bumper to bumper warranty.
