Brake lights fail when all other lights are on (headlights, taillights). When lights are off - brake light will work. Tail lights keep shorting out due to design flaw of light housing unit. Pull bulb out, apply bulb grease, pull springs up, and reinsert. Works for a couple of weeks.
Rear brakelights on my Saturn 2000 Ls malfunction constantly. "bulb holder" does not fit snuggly in rear housing(s). Always see other Ls models on the road with one or more brakelights not working. I think it is a very dangerous problem and has caused many near collisions.

Brake lights go out without warning. Bulbs ok. Determined left rear light assembly had circuit short causing problems in the brake lighting, parking lights and dash board lights.
Rear tail lights on my 2001 Saturn l100 have had problems. Gm recalled other products for similar problems. The bulb holders have been replaced 2 months ago and now the dealer has stated that the assemblies are in need of replacement. These assemblies are failing sooner than what is to be expected. I have been trying to fix the problem of lightbulbs intermittently working for about 1 and half years now. It seems apparent that the system used is inferior in quality.
Consumer replaced brake light four times in a year. Also, front of vehicle vibrated when making a turn. The cause of these things were undetermined.
While driving power steering pump failed, making it hard for the consumer to turn the steering wheel. Problems with brake lights intermittenly failing. When the headlights are on all three brake lights won't work. Brake light failure almost caused an accident and had me pulled over by a police officer. The mechanic traced out and repaired a ground wire to correct the problem.
Failure of left rear (driver side) tail light assembly causing the brake light to not light. This is my second tail light assembly failure in 3 years.
Consumer stated that the brake lights had been replaced six to eight times. They will work for about two months and then they completely stop working. Consumer had to have them replaced. However, she took the vehicle to Saturn. They will not work with consumer to find out what caused the problem. They just continued to replace the brake light assembly.
2000 Saturn l series 200 when the headlights are turned on the brake lights do not work.
The headlights and dashboard lights flickered intermittently while driving at night. Dealer kept the vehicle for two weeks, however the problem continued. There was a squeaking noise only when the steering wheel was turned to the left. The suspension link was replaced. The service engine soon light illuminated on the vehicle and the ignition control module was replaced. The driver side window skipped when being rolled down. The right rear brake light bulb had burned out, the windshield wipers went across the window half way before it squirted any spray and then scratched the windshield.

When braking at various speeds brake lights failed. Had taken vehicle to dealership, but the problem had not been resolved.
Passenger side brake light failed to light upon depression of the brake pedal. Dealer replaced socket with part sn 21019709. Firm belief that there is an inherent design flaw in this socket/tailight connection.
On 6/21/2003 the vehicle was taken to the dealer because the brake lights were not working. Dealer stated there were no bulbs in the sockets. The consumer stated that the vehicle has been to that dealer six times to fix the brake lights.
2000 Saturn l-series. The consumer stated when the brakes are pressed the brake lights do not work. The bulbs have been replaced multiple times. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership, and they stated it was a problem with these vehicles. The manufacturer has not yet been contacted. The problem has been on going for approximately two years.
Right brake light fails repeatedly. Replaced with oem bulbs. Brake light continues to fail and/or flicker after replacement.
Consumer states there is a leak inside brake light housing, there is a rattle in the overhead light, third brake light failed, the second bulb from the left center high brake mount burnt out, the dome light was not seated properly causing a rattling noise.
My problem is with Saturn not honoring recall number 05v245000. Gm recall no. 05052 my brake lights have never worked correctly on my 2000 Saturn lw station wagon. All the lights work until the brakes are applied then one side goes out, (brake and running light). The first failure occurred about a week after I purchased the car, a. I attempted the repair myself by replacing bulbs and switching the bulb sockets. When I took the car in for servicing in 2001 they replaced several bulbs and a socket. After several weeks the brake light again went out this time when the brakes were applied the brake light went out and the dash lights would dim. I again attempted the repair by switching the bulb sockets. On or about 03/2005 when I was trying to figure out the problem with the brake lights I noticed that the plastic housing and the plastic bulb socket on one side was melted. I purchased new bulbs and new bulb sockets and made the repair only to hear about the recall a few weeks later. The brake lights failed a few weeks later so I decided to wait for the recall that was to start in September. I called my local Saturn dealer, Saturn of pembroke pines, only to be informed that my vehicle was not included in the recall.
When the vehicles head lights are on, and the brake is applied, there is a short that causes the brake light to go out, when the brake is not applied, the light is on, but much dimmer than the light standard on the passenger of the vehicle, a new light assembly was installed, but the problem still remains, consumer went back to dealer and was informed that a bulb was loose and resecured, however prior to leaving the dealership consumer found the brake light to be inoperative, another light assembly has been ordered, which will require a fifth time to the dealer.
Brake lights intermittent, bulbs vibrate in light assembly causing them to stop working. Contacted local Saturn dealer and was told they've seen the same thing several times before. Dt.
