Saturn LS owners have reported 5 problems related to crankcase (pcv) (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
- the contact owns a 2002 Saturn l200. The timing chain broke while driving at 20 mph and ruined other parts of the vehicle that required the engine to be disassembled. The vehicle was currently inoperable. The current and failure mileage were 65,000. Saturn agreed to do a 50/50 split for the repairs and she did not agree that she should be responsible for any of the repairs. The maintenance performed on the vehicle prior to the failure included an oil change, replacing the pcv valve, and 4 new tires. There were several related complaints on the website. Updated 03/19/07.

11-2006 failure #1 normal driving. Car slowed and became undrivable as if out-of-gas. Would not re-start. Towed back to dealer. Remedy replace timing chain. No old part. 11-29-2008 failure #2 engine oil warning light and bell on temporarily (meaning no serious event, according to Saturn vehicle manual) after 20-30 minutes of operation before parking car. This happened three times over two days. On final third day after 15 minutes of operation grinding rumble became increasingly louder. At traffic light engine stall. Car restarted. Kept rpms above stall threshold. For five more minutes before parking. Engine crankcase void of oil. Added two quarts. Upon starting engine. Fresh oil was seen exiting upper rear of engine. Drove to dealer. Tear down halted when metal shavings were found in oil pan. Car currently parked at dealer. Recommendation full engine replacement.
I own a 2001 Saturn l200 4 cylinder sedan. It has just over 70k miles on it. All maintenance has been done on or before schedule. Almost 2 years ago the computer had to be replaced. After that incident, the lights started doing weird things. So I took it to the dealer and that issue was resolved (a recall). I have also had to replace the brakes 3 times. On 3/30/06 I was in rush hour on a busy highway passing a car in the left lane. My car just died (no lights came on indicating the engine stopped, just no power). Thank god I got to the right land. I sat there for an hour and finally got the car towed. The timing chain broke. I have spend $200 just to find that out. I am not sure what other damage has resulted. Saturn is acting ignorant about this problem. They say they cannot tell me anything unless I have it at a Saturn dealership. (another tow charge and diagnostics charge). I saw that there is an investigation into this matter and wanted to file a formal complaint. I strongly believe, after the research I have done, that Saturn should take responsibility and fix this problem.

Consumer stated that while driving vehicle cut off. It did not matter the speed. Consumerhad not taken the vehicle to a Saturn dealer yet, but had a private mechanic look at it. The private mechanic told him it was the crank position sensor that was faulty.
Car accelerated on its own climbed from 20 to 60 braking only slowed the car down but as soon as the foot was taken off the brake car returned to high speed. The only way the car would stop was to turn off the car. While in neutral or park rpms climbed to 4500. Saturn had the car twice and blamed me for being late by 2000 miles with an oil change. The then rerouted a pvc hose to prevent moisture from entering throttle body. This seem to me to be a defect in the design and not something from wear and tear and Saturn should cover this repair.
