4 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2002 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 10/27/2008

I was backing out of a spot and there was a clanking sound from behind the dash followed by a stall. The car was inoperable from that point. I had to push the car off of the street to avoid traffic. My vehicle was brought into Saturn of marietta and I was told that the timing chain had broken. It was stated to me that there was a design flaw in the engine and they were aware of it. It was stated that there was a recall for it but my car, currently, wasn't included. I inquired why and was told it would probably be expanded. I went ahead and paid for an engine to be installed for $2983. 53. I went about my life, waiting for the recall to be expanded. The replacement engine recently reached the same mileage that my old engine was at when it failed and it did likewise. Same issue with the defective timing chain. I was not notified if the replacement engine was affected by the recall or not, I believe it was. I tried to find details but the dealership has closed and records are lost (so I've been told). I have the paperwork from the replacement and gm is unwilling to help. I've seen numerous similar complaints online concerning the same issue. The recall was for cars built 11/00 - 2/01 and a new design went into effect in 5/02, my car was built in 8/01. . . Nine months before the new design was implemented. What about all of the consumers with vehicles made between 3/01 and 4/02? over a year worth of purchasers that were left out and put in a dangerous position. Gm is running over us and we need help.

5 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2000 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 04/10/2008

I was picking my kids up from the babysitters when I heard a ticking noise. Let me remind you that I hadn't any engine problems before this day. Anyway, I heard the ticking noise as I was pulling up to the sitters house and cut my car off. Restarted the car and the noise was louder. Took my car to the shop and they told me that my timing chain was broken and that my engine had to be replaced. I don't understand why this was not covered under Saturn because my car only has 70k miles. It's a 2000 Saturn Ls2 and it was running fine up until this date. There was no sign of this problem before it happened and I just don't understand why I should have to pay $3600 out my pocket but Saturn will take no responsibility for this major problem. Can you help me out? what if this would have happened while I was on the highway with my kids and an accident happened?.

6 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2001 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 07/03/2007

I was driving home with the windows open and at a stop heard a subtle metallic clicking sound coming from the front of the car. When I pulled into my driveway a few minutes later I left the car running and lifted the hood to investigate. The sound was coming from the top of the engine where the timing chain drives the cams. Having heard about a problem with these cars breaking timing chains and reading complaints on the nets web site about this very problem I was immediately alarmed. Before I could even step away from the car to shut it off, I heart a louder metallic clank and the care stopped. The timing chain broke literally under my nose. Had I been on the freeway, crossing an intersection or such this sudden loss of power could have caused a serious accident endangering myself and others. I have always been faithful about changing the oil in my 2001 Saturn l200 at the recommended intervals and such a thing should never happen at only 85000 miles. The car is in the shop now being fixed. The service representative at Saturn would not admit having ever heard of this problem and acted like it was very unusual that this happened. I know otherwise. I beg of you to please take action on this. Myself and others should not have to bare the cost of this very expensive repair caused by bad engineering not to mention the terrible safety hazard this represents. Thank you.

7 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2002 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 06/09/2007

My 18 year old daughter was driving our 2002 Saturn l200 with 2. 2 4 cylinder on Saturday June 8, 2007 through an extremely busy intersection of interstate route 93 and montvale avenue in stoneham massachusetts when the engine suddenly and without warning shut down, leaving her stranded in the middle of the intersection fortunately following vehicles were abel to swerve around her. The car was towed to Saturn of medford ,and I am awaiting final determination of problem ,but I suspect that the timing chain broke. I understand that there have been many other complaints regarding similar situations with Saturns and I would like to be added to this list. If Saturn has been aware of this probelm, it is irresponsible that we were not notified of such a problem. My daughter is very lucky! I had called the dealership last week to have a tapping noise checked out and they scheduled me for next Tuesday and made no mention on the phone that this could be such a serious problem.
