1 Axle Shaft problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2010

The limited slip differential failed on my 2007 Saturn Sky. The failure of this component caused the car to suddenly and violently fishtail while making a left turn at normal highway speeds. The car subsequently smashed into the center median, then bounced into the adjacent lane where it collided with a large SUV. The SUV rolled over my hood and flipped over on its top. Fortunately no one was injured. The accident resulted in the SUV being totaled and severe front end damage to my car. The failure in the differential was first detected by the body repair technician and later verified by a qualified gm dealer. It is now being replaced under warranty. Condition: weather was sunny and clear. No oil or water on the roadway. Safety recall NHTSA 07v589000, power train axle assembly axle shaft seal, was performed approximately 6 months earlier.
