I was driving on my way to a doctor's appointment, and when I reached a speed of 55 mph, there was a loud whining sound coming from the rear. I had to slow down below 55, so the noise would go away, and it scared me. While driving the car, I could hear sounds from the rear while making slow turns around the neighborhood. Before buying the car, I had a paid inspection, the mechanic observed an oil drip from around the differential. The car only had 4000 miles when I bought it. The owner said she had taken it in for a recall- #07204 - on the rear differential and had the rear pinion seal replaced. My mechanic said the rear differential is leaking oil causing the differential noises. He drained the diff oil adding new oil. ($175) it appears that the recall repair has failed to fix the differential oil leak. The seller has the original #07204 receipt from the recall repair. The mileage was 1,483. I purchased the car with 4,100 miles- I only drove it for 1900 miles. The car now has 6,000 miles on it. The recall states if the vehicle is not repaired and damage progresses, three conditions can occur: (1) when the vehicle is stopped and shifted to reverse, the differential may jam and prevent vehicle movement; (2) the damage can cause drag that will feel like the brake is applied; or (3) the differential could jam and lock the drive wheels while the vehicle is in motion. If(3) occurs, the driver may not be able to control the vehicle and a crash could occur without warning. I am convinced that with the low miles, the original recall had failed to fix the rear differential oil leak. It continues to leak. I am afraid to drive this car. It is a beautiful 2007 silver Saturn Sky, 6000 miles. I am 78 y. O. & retired. Since the 1st recall failed to fix the problem, could a follow-up remedy recall be honored to me so that I could drive my car safely? thank you very kindly!.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated the while driving at 50 mph, the brakes aggressively and independently activated causing the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle fishtailed. The contact pulled over to the side of the roadway and waited for a while before resuming driving however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to lang Chevrolet Buick-GMC (32575 old kc rd, paola, KS 66071), to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rear differential failed and needed to replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Sometimes the passenger airbag does not turn on when there is an adult person seated in the seat. Also has an oil leak at the differential.
Was on interstate 97 in maryland doing around 65 mph. When I heard and felt loud pop noise from the rear of the 2007 Saturn Sky and pulled onto the side of the highway while the cars on the road were flying by me at a high rate of speed ( that I was scared to get out of the car ) did get the car home and contacted Saturn ( what a waste of time ) to try and get some type of help on the repair. Took car to the local dealer jba Chevrolet and was told that the rear differential had blown out and the repair could be between $2800-$3500. I have seen on the web sites that this is a common problem with this type of rear in Saturn and other gm cars. I'm lucky that the rear did not lock up this could of been a big problem. Please pass this on.
I delivered the vehicle to bill fox chevy for servicing as directed by gm (Saturn) customer service case number [xxx] for grinding noise and fluid leaking on the 2007 Saturn Sky (21433 miles). There was a recall ( 07v58900) for a faulty seal on this models differential unit. It showed the recall was handled on April 29,2008 by lakeside of Saturn which I did not recall. After investigation by the dealer it was agreed that the differential was grinding and the left differential/axle seal was leaking fluid. The repairs were made and had to pay $ 455. 63 for the repairs on this defective designed part. Gm denied my request for covering this under the recall notice. This is my wife's vehicle only driven in the summer. She did not know there was an issue. I drove it and noticed right away and found the recall and contacted gm(Saturn) cs. I stopped my wife from driving because the recall stated the differential could lockup and cause an accident which is a huge safety issue. Also I had a 100k warranty on the drivetrain which they said hit 5 yrs in August 2012. I believe gm should be held responsible for this recall on the total differential ext/int parts. The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. While driving 40 mph, the differential leaked. The vehicle was only two months old at the time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it would take three weeks for the part to arrive. The failure was repaired 4 times. The contact was stranded 30 miles from home due to one of the failures. She then decided to sell the vehicle. The failure mileage was 500 and current mileage was 6,000. The seals were replaced twice.
