Wiper Problems of Subaru Ascent - part 1

Driver's side mirror vibration on uneven road or at highway speeds makes visibility in mirror difficult. This has been the case since purchasing the vehicle in November 2024. Have had most recent Subaru service bulletin on mirror performed by dealer (on 8/8/25), but the problem remains.

Driver side mirror vibrates making the view in the mirror blurry. The distorted picture causes confusion and safety hazard as it's very difficult to see in day and almost impossible at night. Vibrations are noticeable in the driver's side b pillar. According to the dealership, this is related to the car's frame, no further details were provided so far. Car has been in the service for almost two weeks due to this issue.

The windshield cracked right at the corner of where the defects have taken place on the previous year Ascents, which is not covered under the extended warranty.

No particular incident happened, but the driver's side view mirror vibrates when moving especially at high speeds and/or bumpy roads. Worse at night as when you look, headlights in rear are shaking and make me dizzy and not look. The passengers side is nice and stable. Doesn't vibrate and shake.

The front panel of the moonroof cracked from the inside without any impact or clear cause. I brought the vehicle to my local Subaru dealer, troncalli, for inspection, but they were unable to determine why it happened. I purchased this vehicle for my wife and kids, and now there’s a cracked piece of glass directly above their heads. After doing some research, I found that this appears to be a common issue, often attributed to temperature fluctuations or body flexing. It seems Subaru used the same thin glass on the moonroof panels as they do on their windshields, which seems to be the problem. The vehicle is only three years old, yet Subaru has declined to cover the damage. I am hesitant to pay out of pocket to replace the panel, knowing the issue still exists on newer models, including the 2025s. My concern is that even after repair, it could easily happen again.

I have a 2021 Subaru Ascent that falls under an extended warranty regarding the windshield due to a faulty windshield. My windshield has cracked, reduce visibility, and does not allow the forward collision warning to work properly. Subaru recognizes the faulty windshield and refuses to remedy the issue. I question the safety and integrity of this windshield to protect from normal road debris strikes, allow normal visibility, and the integrity of the lamination of the from windshield in the event of a collision.

The windshield on the 2023 is extremely susceptible to cracking easily. Chips turn to cracks within minutes.

The drivers side mirror glass shakes while driving. Visibility in the mirror is extremely limited making it impossible to see vehicle approaching or to judge distance. After dark the mirror is useless.

The driver side mirror is unusable. The mirror it self shakes so much while driving you cannot see anything clearly or safely.

Subaru windshild in my 2019 Ascent have been replaced twice in 30,000 miles due to very inadequate glass. I'm struggling to get Subaru to acknowledge their responsibility to replace this current cracked windshield with a new part, as per my reading of a settlement that they should be following [xxx] ). They are currently trying to send me to a 3rd party repair business to do the repair, but supposedly they have fixed the part on more recent versions of the car. By comparison, I had a Toyota highlander for 11 years and never once had to replace the windshield glass. Yes, it took a beating, but never once cracked like this glass does. Driver side mirror shakes/vibrates excessively sometimes to the point of distorting images seen on the mirror. Many other users are reporting this issue with 2024 and 2025 Subaru Ascents. The issue has been there since the vehicle was purchased brand new. There are threads on reddit, facebook, and the Subaru Ascent forum, where many owners have reported this issue. The drivers side mirror has a constant vibration that causes visibility issues. Has done it since we bought it new.

The driver side mirror vibration increases with the speed to a point that it affects the ability to see anything in the mirror.

Driver side mirrors shakes badly when speed is over 45 mhp. Many similar issues reported online forum.

The driver’s side mirror vibrates excessively, especially at highway speeds, to the point where it makes me nauseous to use it. I’ve asked my dealer to look at it, and I’ve even upgraded to the night-dimming mirrors, but the vibration still occurs. I am not comfortable using this mirror while driving. I am the original owner, and primary driver, of this vehicle, and it has had this problem since I bought it in April 2024. The car now has more than 14,000 miles on it, and the vibration is starting to affect my driving habits. I’m not using this mirror the way I would under normal circumstances, and it’s just a matter of time until I miss someone in my blind spot due to this issue. Please encourage Subaru to address this problem. Other Ascent owners have complained about this, so I know it is not just an issue with my particular vehicle. Thank you!.

2023 Subaru Ascent touring. Front windshield easily cracked from minor rock strikes 3 times within 20 months. Replacement with Subarus oem glasses twice already within 3 months. Now a new crack needs repair or potential replacement. Defective windshield that cannot withhold minor impact is clearly serious safety concern, increased stress on owner and burden on insurance, and impact to vehicle structural integrity for repeated replacements, and depreciation of vehicle value.

The driver side mirror vibrates making it unusable to use. Subaru is unable to repair the problem.

Driver side window will not go up on command. It gets stuck and has a mind of its own. This started in August of 2024. This is a safety hazard, as I live in alaska with very cold temperatures and blowing snow. This was reported to the only available dealership in my area. I even showed the service advisor a video on my phone that I took of the window not responding to the controls. I was told the window is just dirty and to wipe the rubber strips/seams down with alcohol pads. I’ve done that several times now and it makes no difference. One morning last week, I spent 10 minutes in the rain on my way to work trying to get the window to go up. This is a huge safety hazard and must be fixed.

The 360 surround view camera system on my Subaru Ascent consistently displays a misaligned, distorted, and altered image of the vehicle's surroundings. Objects in proximity to the vehicle, including nearby cars, curbs, and obstacles, appear shifted from their actual positions, creating a false sense of clearance. This misrepresentation of the vehicle's environment makes it extremely easy to run into objects or curbs that are shown incorrectly in the camera feed. The distortion in the 360 camera’s view compromises the accuracy of its intended purpose, which is to aid in parking and close-quarters maneuvering safely. I have already experienced multiple close calls due to this issue and believe it poses a significant safety risk, especially in tight parking spaces, low visibility conditions, or when relying on the camera for backing up. The feature is marketed as a safety tool, yet its inaccurate display creates a hazard rather than preventing one. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this problem, as it compromises driver safety and can lead to property damage or accidents due to incorrect visual information provided by the vehicle's system. Attempts to resolve: I have brought this issue to the attention of the Subaru dealership, but they have not provided a solution. The camera system remains misaligned and unreliable. Safety concerns: the misleading camera display creates a high risk of collisions with objects or pedestrians, especially when backing up or parking in areas with limited space. This poses a serious safety hazard, particularly when drivers rely on the system's accuracy to avoid obstacles.

Windshield is delicate and very easily chipped. Windshield has three different chips from 4000 miles of paved road driving. Small chips have quickly spread into long cracks across the windshield.

Driver side mirror has vibration that increases with speed. At highway speeds, it is difficult to safely see the lane next to you, especially if there is a vehicle behind you with their headlights on. The vehicle's mirror glass and housing were replaced and the vibration remains. There is no observable vibration with the passenger side mirror. Was advised by a local dealership that there is no more they can do to eliminate the vibration.

Driver side mirror glass shakes constantly at any speed. This has been reported to the only dealership around my area. Mirror was replaced once by service dept, but only the mirror housing (not the glass). The mirror shakes the same or worse now. I went back to the dealership within minutes of driving my car off the lot after the replacement and told them the issue was not fixed. I was told to reschedule. I took another day off work to bring the car back to them, only to be told there is nothing else they can do. They keep saying the passenger side mirror shakes too, but it doesn’t- at all. I keep telling them this. This mirror issue presents a huge safety hazard, as it is unreliable and useless to use it. It is also a significant distraction while driving. There were no warnings on the car about this mirror issue. The issue began within a month of purchasing the vehicle in February 2024.

Windshield started cracking after a minor pebble strike near the bottom center of the windshield. Crack has doubled in size in less than 10 minutes and continues to grow.

I own 4 Subarus I’ve replaced 4 windshields and since replacing the windshields, I have 4 broken windshields. The oldest Subaru I own is a 2020. The smallest rock cracks the windshield, many think it’s the eye sight system and a much thinner windshield. Insurance companies increase the rates if you claim the windshield, so many Subaru owners just don’t get them fixed, causing visibility issues. I emailed Subaru of America about the problem and they sent me a $500 dollar coupon for parts? I asked a dealership about it, they said “that’s arizona”. 5 of the 8 broken windshields broke in massachusetts were I bought 3 of the 4 Subarus, he avoided the conversation after that. Something’s not right, and Subaru has gotten into trouble with this before.

Yesterday I got in my vehicle first thing in the morning and there was a crack at the bottom of my windshield. I’m not parked anywhere near anything that could’ve caused a crack, so it appears to have just randomly cracked for no reason. This morning as I’m just sitting at the bus stop with my kid the crack got a little bigger.

The windshield on my Subaru Ascent is prone to cracking, vehicle of less than 3,000 miles has a 3in crack in windshield putting our safety and the safety of others at risk.

Windshield randomly became extremely hazy in one section to the point where eyesight forward facing obstacle detection turned off. Cerium oxide rubbing compound was required to clear the haze enough for eyesight to work again. Other sections have less significant haze. It appears to be hairline cracks in the outer layer of the windshield or the windshield scratches extremely easily without any obvious debris impacting it.

Windshield started cracking and crack doubled in size within a few hours, we did not hear a rock chip the window and don't know where the crack came from. Car is available for inspection. This is a safety issue as it can impede the drivers clear view of the road. Will call dealer Monday to have windshield replaced. The windshield has not been inspected by manufacture or insurance. Did not see any warnings prior to failure.

Sunroof glass broke. No apparent reason.

There is a chronic leak in the sunroof. This causes water to run down the c pillar under the carpet. The carpet has 3 inch thick molded foam attached to the bottom. The water sits in the metal floorboard pan, under the molded foam, so it sucks it up like a sponge, but the carpet never gets wet and shows signs of a leak. The dealer has serviced the sunroof yet it continues leak every time. The vehicle stays moldy and strong smells of mold never go away, also the thick foam won’t dry completely out due to the design of the flooring underlay.

With less than 5500 miles on our new Ascent, the windshield has 100s of small chips in it. When contacting Subaru about the issue we were told that's an outside environment issue and not something they could help with. After reading online, it seems the acoustic glass Subaru is using is an inferior product prone to easy damage that no other manufacturers has issues with. We now have 2 cracks forming from these small chips. This is a dangerous issue that impedes visibility with how such little effort it takes to chip or break the front windshield.

Just bought my Ascent last 12/31/22. With less than 600 miles, while driving with my heater on, I noticed there was a crack on windshield lower center portion, about 5" in length. There was no object that hit the windshield that I saw or heard.
