36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/23/2023

Not sure yet what component or system failed as the car is being towed to dealer. On 12/23/24, the engine made a grinding noise and then the car completelyshut down and froze on the highway. No power, all the dashboard lights flashed on - and I could not put the car in park. Since I was on the highway - my safety and safety of drivers behind me were at great risk until a help truck was able to block the road. Car will be inspected by Subaru on 12/26. Subaru was closed 12/23 pm, 12/24, 12/25 there were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of a problem prior to the failure.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/21/2023

In three separate incidents while car only shows 70 in fuel indicator, my 2016 Crosstrek stalled while driving on a highway. I have brought my car to Subaru dealer, but they cannot find anything wrong with my 2016 Crosstrek. In each of the three separate instances after waiting on the side road for 30 minutes, I was able to restart the car and drive home. My car just had a new engine air filter replaced.

Car was at a stop light, went to accelerate and car would not accelerate- all the lights came on. I had to put it in park and turn it off and back on, then it accelerated and there were no other issues.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 08/12/2023

The issue is the engine coolant bypass valve. This causes the engine to not take in as much coolant resulting in the engine getting much hotter than it should, thus putting those in the car’s safety at risk. This could ultimately lead to a fire and/or cause the car to suddenly lose power. My car already refuses to go above 3000 rpm’s and is very laggy when driving. The car itself shows a code that the bypass valve needs replaced & the check engine has come on. However, Subaru has failed to acknowledge that this is an issue amongst most of their vehicles since 2020. This issue also disables the Subaru eyesight which is in control of adaptive cruise control, pre collision breaking, and sway warning. With those features now disabled, the car has lost the safety package that Subaru boasts. I have read on many online forums that this has been an ongoing issue now for many customers, a bulk of which experienced total engine failure. This lack of responsibly is putting many lives at risk on the road every day. I hope this helps shed light to this issue to Subaru & that this part is recalled so that Subaru must pay for the repairs instead of the car owners. Also, the repair part is around $500 & maintenance must be done by Subaru which is another $400-500 for labor. My opinion is they are using this defect as a way to make easy money on many customers since 2021. Here’s a link to the service bulletin that has been created about this issue: https://static. Nhtsa. 44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 06/11/2023

On Sunday, 11 June I was driving from brigatine, NJ back to alexandria, va. Just east of baltimore around 11:45am, after about 2. 5 hours of driving, I tried to accelerate on I-95. The car did not respond and after several seconds I realized I was slowing. I pulled off to the shoulder and once stopped the engine shut down before putting into park. I only received a check engine light, battery light, and fluid light after the car shut down. I tried to restart, but it would not catch or just sputtered. I waited a minute, tried again and it started but then went out about 20 seconds later. At that point I called aaa for a tow. After the tow was arranged, I started the car for a short time and pulled farther off the highway, then shut it down again. About 45 minutes or so later, I started the car and ran it for several minutes at idle while waiting for the tow truck. The aaa truck showed up, and I took the tow because I did not want to break down in one of the baltimore tunnels. On 12 June, the Subaru dealership could not confirm any faults and could not replicate. I have no idea what the issue was. I did stop twice during that 2. 5 hours for about 5 minutes each time (bathroom breaks). At the time I had about an 1/8th of a tank of gas in the car with 110 miles in range showing on the computer (figured I would make it home and refill then). Temperatures were warm. The Subaru dealership did not charge me for anything and told me they often get cases they cannot replicate.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 05/18/2023

Was driving on highway at approximately 65 mph. Check engine light came on. Engine started to stop responding to gas being given to car. Pulled off to exit highway approximately 1 minute after check engine light came on. At bottom of exit, car completely lost power. Attempted to put vehicle into park and wouldn't shift. Started to see smoke coming from engine and then shortly after started to see flames coming from engine. Immediately exited vehicle and called 911. No one was injured. Subaru indicated fire started as result of external influences. Insurance company's 3rd party auditors were not able to determine cause of fire.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/29/2023

My 2013 Subaru Crosstrek stalled on the highway in March 2023 while I was driving home from work. I brought it to hassett Subaru in wantagh because a friend told me that there was a recall on the spring valve (from 5 years ago, which I was never notified of). Vlad oriol wanted to charge me a few thousand dollars to breakdown the engine, even though that was a requirement of the recall. I checked the VIN and found out my car was covered by the spring valve recall. Since the car was unsafe to drive, I then called Subaru headquarters who sent a tech supervisor to investigate the situation. The tech supervisor said the problem was due to the recall so the engine breakdown was covered. The tech supervisor said the "rocker arm had come loose from excessive lash, but was tied to the recall issue," and also added that there was no other damage. Hassett Subaru was forced by Subaru headquarters to preform the recall fix. I picked up my car (we live 2 miles from hassett) and the very next day the car wouldn't accelerate and was constantly misfiring. I brought the car back to hassett. The tech supervisor came out again to investigate, this time there was additional damage to the cam shaft (which was not there before hassett worked on the car). Hassett told Subaru headquarters that there was a preexisting issue with the car (which was totally false). As a result Subaru headquarters would not cover the cost to fix the problem that hassett caused by attempting to fix the recall issue. Thanks to hassett's misrepresentations to Subaru headquarters we have a car that doesn't run and can't afford a new one.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/02/2023

The engine part that seems to be the issue is the starter. The car has an auto cut off when stopped at lights and other times you stop the car. The car's engine is supposed to restart as soon as you take your foot off the brake. As the car's engine heats up, the car's engine does not start immediately after removing your foot from the brake. The issue becomes greater the longer the engine has been running. On longer drive times, the engine hesitates enough that it seems like it might not start. The dealer has replaced the original starter due to the same issue. The new starter is less than 3 months old and the problem is again happening. No warning lights or indications that the engine will not start immediately upon removing your foot from the brake. The greater amount of time for the engine to restart has made pulling out into traffic when there is a clearing to pull out has become a safety concern as the pause is enough at times to now make the gap no longer large enough to pull out safely.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 02/09/2023

The engine of the car stopped while on the road. The car is available for inspection upon request. Due to the engine while driving in the middle of the road. The safety of others was at risk the problem was not reproduced by the dealer or by a service center. Yes the manufacturer inspected and failed to reproduce the failure yes, the error message was “check hybrid system, stop in a safe place, turn engine off, switch off, and restart. Check owners manual”.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 02/06/2023

Engine shut off at a stop sign and the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree with alarms sounding. Couldn’t get car restarted. Towed to Subaru dealer and they said there was a connector cable to the starter that was defective. Replaced at no cost.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 02/04/2023

When driving, the car has intermittent random power failures. When you start to accelerate, it does not go even when applying full petal to the floor or letting go and pushing the petal again then it goes rapidly to speed. It is failing to accelerate more frequently and when I brought it in to the dealership twice, they said if I can tell them exactly how and when it is failing they would have a chance at fixing the problem. The problem they say is that it is random. Because of the problem with this we are seriously looking at buying another car. We no longer pull out into traffic because we do not know if it will fail. There are no warning lights on the dash or other indications.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 01/28/2023

- cam carrier leak, resulting in oil leaking from engine. Oil is leaking onto catalytic converter sensor causing it to malfunction. - oil leaking from cars poses a safety and environmental hazard. - michael's Subaru of bellevue (washington state) has confirmed it occurring, and it is a problem across Subaru models according to a number of forum posts from Subaru owners, which has been shared with Subaru of America. - I have not had it inspected by anyone officially besides michael's Subaru of bellevue (washington state). - there was a warning lamp for the catalytic converter, but upon physical inspection of the vehicle the technician discovered it was oil leaking from the cam carrier onto the sensor that caused the warning lights to turn on in the vehicle. - I have included emails I exchanged with Subaru of America regarding the issue.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 01/27/2023

Car caught fire from what seemed to be an electrical issue. Car became engulfed in flames within a few seconds. Fire department was called to extinguish the fire. I was lucky myself to make it out in time. The fire became so big, so quickly, I was concerned for the safety of the surrounding property. Luckily, no one was injured and no property damage took place. Car was inspected and totaled by insurance. The headlights were constantly needing to be changed. Otherwise the car was fine. I had just replaced the battery and just a few hours later the fire happened. The fire appeared to start somewhere under the hood on the passenger side.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 01/19/2023

I was driving on Tuesday, January 17 and my steering made a pooping nose strug and swirl to the right then continue driving. I found it strange but this never happened. Then on Thursday, January 19, 2023, I put my vehicle into the driveway, my engine was not even off yet, my steering wheel to the left with key still in the ignition it locked. I know how to unlock my wheel but with this I can't this is the 4th time it has happened. It is freaking me out because every time my son is in the car. If this happens when I am driving it going to take the grace of god to save us. The first time was in hartsdale, NY parking lot Subaru assistance was called, he made a report, 2nd time it happened by trader joes larchmont, NY police came out they made a report, 3rd time a man in keyfood bronx, NY 2022,help me and 4th time January 19, 2023 entourage automotive corp tow was called. He wants to tow my car in the morning to Subaru service because he says it too stiff and hard to turn. He had to lean his body on it and then turn it hard. I can't do that and it not suppose to do that. In December 21, 2022, my car was park under the port, when I went out the hand rest was wrinkled. When I took my car in for 4 tires I indicated this to will the service guy and he said I could buy a new one and have it replace. It was strange he never hard of it. Well know through some research this is a big issue with vehciles from 2017 to 2022 and they have a cover for it now. But it should have been a recall to fix the ones it already happen too now. Https://Subaru. Oemdtc. Com/3574/2017-2021-Subaru-center-console-armrest-cover-wrinkled-appearance my car is staining from the ceiling to the side of the upper doors, as well as water stains.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/26/2022

My car has stopped working while driving 70 mph on the interstate in so separate occasions. Both times it has been driving fine, with fuel in the tank, and all of the sudden it shuts off and completely loses power. All of the warning lights on the dash light up and the only thing to do is to coast to the shoulder of the highway. Couldn’t start the car back up (cranked, no start). Battery is fine. Fuel level is fine. First time it happened it had to be towed. Towed to mechanic who ran diagnostics on it the next day but nothing threw a code. It started fine the next day. I’ve had certified Subaru mechanics tear this thing apart trying to figure out what causes the issue but they can’t find anything wrong. I’m scared this is going to happen again and will put me in a dangerous situation in the middle of a highway or on the side of the road. This is definitely an issue putting myself and others at risk. It seems similar to other issues Subaru Crosstreks have had in close model years to mine (20 where recalls have been issued for fuel pump malfunctions etc. Please look into this, this could cause a terrible wreck and needs to be resolved ASAP.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/12/2022

The contact owns a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, he heard a grinding sound and the vehicle started to shutter and spin. The contact then stated that he had to shift gear into neutral to stop the spin and rolled down the exit ramp and stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a hole was in the engine and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was denied service due to no service record was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that he was twelve days over warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/04/2022

12042022 - not sure of cause, could be multiple as all systems just shut down for seconds, the car goes dead while driving down i235 at 70mph, first the radio turns off, then the car seemed to go to lower gear rpm to zero and just shut off at a high speed, no power on anything, then about 2. 5 seconds later it restated and continued, sputtered off again then powered back off and on again as I got off the highway, many warning lights came on including the lane warning, brake light, it was very scary at such a high speed. This car now seems to have little continued incidents of the same behavior for what has seemed to be spuratic but regular fits now and I have to have dependable transportation. Very easily could have caused an accident if the traffic was heavier when the incident occured.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 11/26/2022

-driving at moderate pace between 30 and 40 mph when vehicle engine shut off without warning. Loss of power, no steering and all warning lights illuminated. Difficulty getting vehicle over to side of road so not in way of traffic. Braking was difficult once on side of road.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 11/20/2022

The auto engine shut off was disengaged by the dealer while doing some repair. When we picked up the car, noticed engine trouble icons signifying this. We called the dealer and advised of this situation. We had asked if it could be disconnected and was told no, it is forbidden and a safety issue. So when I advised it was turned off, the dealer then refused to work on the car any further or to turn it back on. They are the only local Subaru dealer in knoxville. That certified mechanic is the one who did not reconnect this safety feature and then refused to fix it. What ever measures need to be taken to this dealer (grayson Subaru - knoxville) I need to do so. This has created a huge safety issue with the car and driving and a authorized / approved Subaru dealer refuses to follow the law.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 11/06/2022

My brand new Subaru ignited in the engine compartment, burst into flames and exploded while I was driving it.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 10/21/2022

My friend and I drove from minneapolis to duluth for a two-day short trip (oct 20 - 21, 2022). On our way back, my car suddenly slowed down (from 70 m/h to 40 m/h and was non-responsive), and shut down completely at the intersection between highway I-35 w and lino lake, mn 55038, about 30 miles away from tc around 8:30 pm, Friday night. And then I cannot start my car at all. Originally I thought it was the gas issue but the screen indicated there were at least 100miles to drive. Therefore, I called 911 right after (see exhibit 1) and asked for help as well as Subaru roadside service (see exhibit 2 ). Fortunately, my car stopped at the shoulders and we were not involved in a crash. This happened three days after I had my car maintenance (oct 17 at 10:15 am, morrie's minnetonka Subaru, 12520 wayzata blvd, minnetonka, mn 55305), and according to the report from that maintenance, the car was functioning well and had no red flag (see exhibit 3). My car is currently located at morrie's minnetonka Subaru for further inspection. However, as far as I know so far (from the dealership mechanics), they have no clue what happened and they need to ask for additional help to figure out why the car engine suddenly lost power. In addition, I saw this is not a solo accident, many other Subaru Crosstrek owners have encountered similar situations (I. E. , lost power completely on the highway or freeway after regular car maintenance). Please see exhibit 4 for detailed information.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/27/2022

When I attempted to start the car, the starter would spin but fail to engage the flywheel, leaving me stranded in a parking lot. The car needed to be towed to a repair shop. The repair shop confirmed the problem and replaced the starter with an oem replacement part. I am told that the manufacturer has redesigned the part. The car has less than 55,000 miles on it. I was unaware of any symptoms of the impending failure of this engine component.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/11/2022

Had intermittent total loss of power for about 1/2 of a mile.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 08/29/2022

This morning August 29 2022 I started my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, when I put it in gear the car just took off before I could stop it. The idli when about 5000 rpm and then up and down. I was able to get the vehicle stopped and parked. I tried starting the vehicle again and the same. The vehicle is on its way to crews Subaru north charleston. Even the tow truck driver wouldn't drive the vehicle. This makes the vehicle unsafe. What if someone was walking past my driveway when this happen? it took about 40 feet to get the car stopped with my foot on the brake hard and to park the car. I have a video showing the rpm at 3900 but could upload it to your site.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

Engine burst into flames during normal highway driving. Vehicle was well-maintained with all scheduled maintenance performed during the life of the vehicle. Cel was lit approximately 1 week before fire but driveability was normal.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 07/26/2022

At 89,000 the transmission was replaced because of a “known issue” and I was having problems. The car would lurch and hesitate coming off traffic stops. This prompted me to go to the dealer who called Subaru who offered to replace transmission, no further questions asked. Less than 20,000 miles later, this new transmission is causing problems again to the tune of $12,000! they refuse to replace it at no charge when they know the cvt transmissions have issues.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 06/10/2022

Whilst driving down highway 101 near sequim wa, I was on cruise control doing 55 mph going up a steep hill which I have done numerous times before without issue. When all of a sudden the car suddenly slowed down, for me to hear honking from a semi behind me who had to suddenly swerve to go around us to stop him from rear ending me (luckily that part of the road on the hill had a second lane for the truck to use, if not then me and my son would probably be seriously injured or dead. ) I looked at the dashboard to find the engine warning light on, and the cruise control flashing, but the car was still running and drove fine with the accelerator pressed. Later on I found out this error code was p0024. When that issue happened, not only had the engine warning light illuminated, it caused not only the cruise control to disengage (without my input) but also for the vehicle stability control to stop working. Once again though the engine was still running file and in my opinion it disabling the cruise and stability control gravely endangered the occupants when it had no reason to disable them. Since then I have had other similar error codes such as p000d which have cause the same thing, but they happened on level ground so the car did not slow down so suddenly. I believe the issue is low or used engine oil, as when I got an oil change (within service life) the issues seems to have gone away; this has happened many times before. These pzev vehicles not only in my opinion break epa laws on emissions as they make the car burn through many quarts of oil in the service life, so how Subaru can claim pzev when exchanging high rps and a boat load of oil for some if any pzev's I do not know. My car has two recalls, I have been urgently trying to get these fixed, but my two local dealerships (both 50 miles away) refuse to do the recalls as I filed a lemon complaint, and bbb complaint as one refused to honor a price match for thousands to me. I am a disabled veteran and need car.

2019 Subaru crosstek. Consumer writes in regard to vehicle being flooded with water after safety recalls being repaired.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 05/19/2022

The car has the temp light come on intermittently and then it never came on again. I opened the hood and a hose from the radiator to the overflow tank was not connected. I brought the car to a Subaru dealer. The technician found oil in the radiator of the car. I was told this could be a head gasket and the engine may need to be replaced. The car has around 75,000 miles on it.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/30/2022

Driving on the freeway my car lost power I pulled off to the side and tried to restart it. As I have the ignition turned over for 30 to 40 seconds the starter sounded erratic and the oil temperature light was flashing. I sat there for about ten minutes and tried again and it did the same thing but it started. This power loss has happened twice. The erratic noise coming from the ignition, and the hesitation of starting is a regular ongoing issue along with the oil temperature light. Since the first stall at about 117000 miles on the odometer the car has been burning oil at a rate of a full quart about every 3000 miles. #2 around 120000 miles my key wouldn't come out of the ignition. This happened first on a late night in a high crime area. I actually had to leave my keys in my ignition while going into a gas station to pay for fuel. Since then this happens every time I turn off my vehicle and put it into the park position. Usually I have to wait around ten minutes to be able to remove the keys. Both of these issues cause a great deal of anxiety on the freeway or having to leave the key in the ignition.
