Equipment Problems of Subaru Crosstrek - part 1

On xxx at approximately 8:00 p. M. , I was driving my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek westbound onxxx descending from the [xxx] area toward [xxx], shortly after [xxx]. It was approximately 90°f. I was traveling about 75 mph in the middle lane, going straight, with normal traffic around me. Without warning, I heard an extremely loud explosion. I initially thought that a tire on my vehicle or another vehicle had exploded. I saw what appeared to be a shower of dark material around my vehicle but did not know what had happened. I safely pulled over and only then discovered that my sunroof glass had shattered. The sunroof was completely closed and had not been opened in many months, possibly close to a year. I did not see or hear a rock, debris, or any other object strike my vehicle before the explosion. There was no impact sound or other warning before the glass failed. I had not made any unusual maneuver and there had been no collision. The shattered glass appeared to have been expelled outward and rained across the exterior of my vehicle. Fortunately, the interior sunshade was closed and prevented the shattered glass from falling directly onto me. Had the shade been open, the glass could have struck my face or eyes while I was traveling at highway speed and caused me to lose control of the vehicle. I called my husband immediately after pulling over, providing a contemporaneous record of the approximate time of the incident. I am reporting this as a serious safety concern because the sunroof glass suddenly shattered at highway speed without any observed external impact. My vehicle requires multiple restarts after the engine is turned off to go forward or reverse. This has been happening since April 2026. I purchased the vehicle on 02/28/2026. My dealer claims they have not found any issues. However, the problem persists.

The sunroof shattered for no apparent reason. The car was parked in my garage. Something caused it to explode outwardly from within tempered glass fell going all over the front seats. Some of the glass stood in place, but would come crashing down if I was to drive it from the wind force.

The sirius xm advertisement creates an unsafe experience. The only way to safe way close it requires the driver to pull over to touch the “x”, or to risk taking eyes off the road in order to use the interface, including the climate control.

Radio/infotainment system popped up a over-the-air in-vehicle messaging (ivm) alert for siriusxm advertisement. This in-motion ad force them to take their eyes off the road just to hit "dismiss" resulting in missing a critical navigation turn in an unfamiliar location. This seems to happen every few months. The vendor does not offer a way to make these driver interruptions stop. I later called the number on the screen and they do not have a way to opt out of the ivm advertisements since I am not a California resident protected by ccpa.

Sirius xm radio pop up advertisement disables the touch screen and features until the little red x button is hit in the top right corner away from the driver.

My issue is with sirius xm advertisements popping up on the screen while I'm driving, it is very distracting and seems unsafe especially when I'm using navigation apps on my screen trying to navigate the city. The message on the screen does have a phone number that says "limited-time siriusxm offer available through 6/30. Call 866-635-2495 for info/vehicle msg opt-out" but when I called the number they said it was physically impossible for them to opt me out and recommended I purchase a new in car stereo to address the issue. Which is completely outrageous because the car is a 2024 and basically new still. I asked to speak to a manager and they were unable to do anything to address it despite the message sating call to opt-out.

Thermo control valve (tcv) causes a check engine light to come on and disables eyesight issue started may 29, 2026. The check engine would go on and off. Now it just stays.

Brake light switch failure. Triggering traction control warning light, hill assist warning light, and abs warning light, and disables cruise control. There was previously a recall (number: wue-90 NHTSA 19v-149) for the brake light switch for Subaru models with my production date included, but because hybrid Crosstrek models were not included, it will not be replaced under recall. I am still experiencing the same issues and cause, but it is not covered.

My sunroof exploded. I was on the highway, no trucks around to shed debris, when I heard a pop and then the sound of glass breaking. I was near my home so I got there and then inspected the sunroof. The glass was pushed upward at the center of the sunroof. No rocks inside the interior of the sunroof. This sunroof had only been opened once, when checking operation at the dealership. This car was new and I have had it less than a month. The milage is less than 500 miles.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek rapidly accelerated unexpectedly while pulling into a parking space with the foot on the brake. Hit a concrete pole and sustained vehicle damage and injuries.

Power train automatic transmission park/neutral start interlock reverse lights not illuminating increasing risk of collision recall was issued not listed here wrq-23 recall issued 1/8/23 my issue started in 2026 off and on why is this recall not listed Subaru service department states not able to provide service without the recall on file car purchased August 2025.

Wheel bearing issue in 2018 Subaru Crosstrek identified by Subaru but not full recall we were not informed risk rear wheels will fall off contacted Subaru advocacy after determining the backing plate was modified due to risk of failure internet indicated courtesy repair for vehicles under 100,000 miles with new corrected part repair was denied without full payment not even willing to supply non defective part at no cost.

While driving 65mph on the freeway the front passenger window imploded into the car. This threatened the safety of both the driver and passenger as the glass flew at such high velocity it ended up in both occupants clothes, hair, and skin, the glass also was found as far as the trunk. This endangered the safety of others driving on the highway as the driver was shocked and caught off guard at the sudden implosion. The problem has been found in similar model Subaru's including examples of moonroof and rear windshield implosions. The vehicle has been inspected by the local dealer yet they are claiming to have found no abnormalities in the window systems, but are unable to ensure that the glass was tempered properly. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to failure.

Within 10 days of purchasing this vehicle a certified Subaru dealership documented the following safety defects. Both front cv axles failing and clicking on turns creating loss of vehicle control risk. Eps electronic power steering fault codes creating safety critical steering concern. Can bus communication fault u0073 affecting multiple vehicle safety systems simultaneously. Cvt transmission fluid critically low at 1 to 2 quarts. These defects were professionally documented by Subaru of portland certified technicians on [xxx] at 113,494 miles. Repair quote for safety related defects totals $7,516. 51. Vehicle was sold by overland automotive llc 2900 se cornelius pass rd ste 105 hillsboro or 97123 with these defects undisclosed. I am reporting a possible power train/drivetrain issue with a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek wilderness. At steady highway speeds, most noticeably around 72–76 mph under light accelerator load, the vehicle produces a persistent high-frequency ringing/whining tone throughout the cabin. The noise stops when I lift off the accelerator and rarely occurs when traveling downhill, which suggests it may be related to drivetrain load rather than ordinary wind, road, or tire noise. The suspected component or system is unknown, but based on the operating conditions it may involve the cvt, differential, or related drivetrain/power train components. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by a Subaru dealer. The vehicle was previously inspected by the dealer, and the rear differential was replaced during an attempted repair, but the noise persisted. The vehicle was returned for additional diagnosis, and dealership personnel confirmed the same noise. The manufacturer later stated that the condition was considered a normal characteristic after comparison with another like-model Crosstrek wilderness, but no specific root cause or technical explanation was provided. My safety concern is that a persistent, load-dependent drivetrain noise at highway speeds could indicate abnormal wear, resonance, or mechanical instability in the cvt, differential, or related power train components. If the condition reflects an unresolved defect, it could potentially lead to premature drivetrain failure or loss of power while driving at highway speeds. There have been no warning lamps or dashboard messages associated with the condition. The issue first appeared while the vehicle was still very new and under factory warranty, and it remains unresolved.

Own a 2019 suburu Crosstrek vehicle that has unexpectedly accelerated/lurched on its own when pulling forward into a parking spot. This has happened twice. . . Last month & today.

The infotainment system periodically displays full-screen advertisements for siriusxm during car operation, interrupting navigation and all other functions that occur on the infotainment system. This was a free trial service that I did not sign up for and has caused my safety to be at risk by interrupting my navigation system at a crucial junction where many navigation instructions needed to be followed one after another, causing my ability to successfully navigate the correct direction to my destination to be interrupted and nearly resulting in an accident with other drivers. This is something that other Subaru owners have also experienced, and there are no warnings or messages prior to the advertisement appearing on the screen. This is absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous that unwanted advertisements can be pushed to the car while it is in motion and during navigation.

In-car pop-up advertisements, specifically from siriusxm. The advertisement pops up while driving, attempting to use the safety features of the car, including navigation. It happens every few months, at random. There is no way to opt-out from the vehicle; the only option is using a desktop computer, creating an account, and finding the communication preferences. This is a dangerous feature, as it causes multiple issues when it happens, including driver safety. They violated fcc rules by making this easy to opt out of; I've never opted in, as I had to create an account just to cancel.

This is the second time this has occurred. While driving (vehicle in motion for multiple minutes beforehand), an ad for siriusxm radio popped up on my infotainment, which disables carplay, a/c controls, car settings, driver assistance settings, etc. Until you dismiss the ad. There is no way to dismiss the ad except clicking a small “x” button in the corner, which is difficult and dangerous to do while driving because you have to really focus on the screen and tapping the right spot. Absolutely unacceptable and inappropriate to show an ad like that. If I were driving at night or in the rain, there is a high likelihood I would crash, and that chance is not zero even in good daytime weather. It also forces me to do something illegal (interact w screen while driving).

While driving, the infotainment screen was overtaken with an advertisement for siriusxm radio which had to be manually cleared by hitting an x button on the screen. The vehicle was in motion when the advertisement appeared and completely covered the screen. At the time of the incident, the vehicle had been on and driving for over an hour.

Advertisements from serious xm taking over the screen. Distracting me from the road because I had to close the ad and open carplay back up. This is unacceptable!.

Advertisements routinely pop up on infotainment screen and block safety features like x mode (for snow). They are a driving distraction, as they block all features on the screen and will not disappear until they are interacted with. This means that in inclement weather, I have to interact with an ad before using this safety feature. Siriusxm has refused to remove them. Subaru has said there is nothing they can do. This was also not disclosed to me upon purchase of the vehicle, so this is also a dishonest business practice on top of being a safety hazard not allowing usage of safety features and being a driving distraction. First and second incident was in November 2024, third was December 4, 2024. Most recent incidents occurred November 22, 2025 and December 2nd, 2025. I have photos as proof.

Infotainment displayed an advertisement for serius xm radio while I was using navigation and operating the vehicle on the roadway.

I am not a customer of sirius xm, so approximately once per month, an ad appears on my screen for a sirius xm free trial. This is incredibly distracting and dangerous as it takes up the entire screen and requires me to take my eyes off the road to click the close button.

While driving, the infotainment system, which I was using for navigation, popped up an ad for siriusxm radio. This distracted me, as the driver, while I was trying to use the navigation system to find my way. Thankfully, I was on a road with a speed limit of 30 mph, and an area that I am familiar with. However, there should be zero tolerance for advertisements on automotive infotainment systems.

I got a pop-up message while attempting to back up using my rear backup camera that almost caused an accident. This blocked view of the camera and locked up the entire infotainment system until I could clear it. The pop up was: "enjoy siriusxm free thru 12/1. " this kind of distraction while operating a vehicle that weighs almost a ton while the vehicle is in motion is dangerous and irresponsible. This advertisement disables and interferes with safety features on this vehicle.

Advertisements for siriusxm radio are being pushed to the infotainment system. These ads temporarily render all radio and climate controls as unavailable until driver taps on screen to disable the notification… causing driver to take eyes off of the road.

Advertisement for xm radio service popped up on console screen of the car, and would not go away unless manually dismissed (touch) - while driving, covering the entire screen. This is entirely unnecessary and distracting, all to serve an advertisement for a service I don't want or use.

Pop up ads for siriusxm while driving are a dangerous distraction. They pop up with a sound from the speakers, making me think somethings wrong with my car and distracting me from the road. It also doesn't close by itself.

Distracting siriusxm adds keep blocking navigation requiring physical input from driver to clear.

While I was driving the other day my entire infotainment screen (which shows my map, as well as climate controls) was completely overtaken by a giant ad for sirius xm radio service. It was the entire screen and it required me to take my focus off of the road long enough to determine what was happening on the screen, find a button to make it go away, then accurately tap the button while driving. This was extremely dangerous and I don't know how it is legal! why are they allowed to project an ad into my field of vision, distracting my focus and potentially causing a deadly accident? this needs to be stopped! I love Subaru, but they need to stop endangering our lives with ads for satellite radio service I already don't want while I'm driving.

On infotainment touchscreen, repeated sirius xm ads are shown while the vehicle is in operation. This is distracting and dangerous as the ads obscure actual critical functions like climate control, navigation, and vehicle settings until I tap the x on the ad to close it. Running ads while the vehicle is driving is not safe - this puts myself and other drivers at risk by introducing an unnecessary distraction. I cannot stress enough that these ads only appear while the vehicle is driving.

While driving in alaska during icy conditions my entire display for my infotainment screen changed abruptly. I glanced over at this to see if this was important information as it doesn't usually do thing. Upon looking I realized this was an advertisement for sirius xm radio free until December 1st. In order to get back to my normal navigation I had to click a small red x on the screen. This entire situation cause me to swerve and slide on the ice and almost go off into a ditch. This is extremely negligent behavior to display an advertisement while a car is in full motion and I, as the driver, am expected. To keep my eyes on the road.

Ad for sirius xm popped up on infotainment center as I was driving. This caused an unexpected interruption in my ability to drive safely. Subaru gives you zero option to opt out and I have repeatedly had this pop up on my screen. I bought and paid for this vehicle and they should not be allowed to place any ads on the infotainment center.
