1 Equipment problem of the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/20/2025

The drivers side mirror shakes and vibrates during normal local driving on my brand new 2025 Subaru Crosstrek limited. I brought it in to be fixed and they did work on it but it did not fix the problem. I am have to bring it back a second time. I am reporting this as this is a known issue and Subaru has yet to come up with permanent fix. It makes car shake and provide poor visibility if don't have a clear view to gauge from.

2 Equipment problem of the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

Unknown: issue was that something is rolling along the left side of the driver floor board underneath the floor board. First time this happened was after the dealer got into the transmission as I had issues with a clunking noise which is still present but I was advised is normal when putting the vehicle into park from reverse. Took it in for them to inspect - they advised nothing was wrong, and the issue was mysteriously fixed- no more rolling parts under my feet. This time, I took it in for tire rotation and oil change and now it is doing the same thing. . . Something is rolling back and forth on the left side of the driver side floor board. Today, when turning left, whatever component under the floor board is moving, moved from left to right when making that turn. My side mirrors shake noticeably when driving.

5 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 06/16/2025

My vehicle would struggle with starting intermittently over the past 2 years. Last week it became a consistent issue each time I would start it. Today my car would not crank and I tried several times over the span of 3 hours. What I experienced previously when starting my vehicle is it would initiate starting, I would hear a mechanical whirring, the car would stop then start again and the engine would turn over a couple of times and eventually start up. Today when trying to start the car, I hear a mechanical whirring and several notifications appear on my dashboard including the following: check engine, eyesight off check manual, check owner manual, rab disabled. Thankfully I was not stranded when my car wouldn't start again, but that is a real risk because I travel to the mountains often where there is no cell reception. I looked online for similar issues and have discovered several instances of people with 2018 and 2019 Subaru Crosstreks (and other models) have had the same issue. Subaru has issued a technical service bulletin (07-198-21), but this is a safety issue which they should address. My coworker has the same car and it has had work done for the same issue. My neighbor has a 2019 ascent which has an auto start/stop where it wasn't able to restart and was stuck in traffic creating a hazard.

6 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 05/13/2025

The affected component of this vehicle is the braking system. When rocks or gravel get stuck to, in, on, or around the brake pads/brakes the braking system is compromised. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. When gravel gets stuck in, on, and around the brake pads, the safe operation of the braking system malfunctions. If the vehicle braking system does not work as designed/intended, lives are at risk. When you need to brake, the braking system needs to be reliable. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, upon taking the vehicle back to the dealer, the service manager confirmed this is a known defect by both sales and service teams. The service manager said this happens often and we should expect it to happen again. The service manager told me this vehicle is not to be driven on gravel. This was not disclosed at the time of purchase. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the dealer service department inspected the vehicle when it was towed back to them for service related to this problem. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, there was no warning. The brakes failed to operate properly, they did not completely fail.

8 Equipment problem of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 04/02/2025

1. Subaru 2022 Crosstrek accelerated on its own when foot is on the brake and trying to move the shifter knob to park, instead the car thursted into the parked car in front with such force that ran into the garage. 2. Towed car to Subaru dealer informed to escalate to Subaru of America, opened a case #250402-1600810, please see attached email communication. 3. Subaru will not respond unless I signed a consent to extract edr (event data recorders) for inspection but denied me to be onsite or a copy of the files, the data retained from edr is the property of the owner, per section 563. 5 of title 49, code of federal regulations. 4. 4 weeks later, Subaru issued the results of this vehicle indicate it has no brake, accelerator or throttle abnormalities. Also quoting the police report that I provided. 5. There was no edr saved in the accident, Subaru cannot provide any summary or why the computer did not capture any of the events, the brake pedal, gas pedal, etc. 6. There has been over $12,000 damage on the Subaru, over $7,000 on the parked car, and the garage door. The insurance repair for the vehicles only address body work and no mention of the edr testing, engine and throttle, eyesight, etc. 7. Subaru should be more transparent and issue the summary of the inspection from the team, not the adovcacy (advocating for Subaru). The car battery went completely dead on March 14, 2025 and was told there is nothing wrong with it after the dealer service center look at it on March 15. The inspector was going to determine if the vehicle is drivable. 8. The car is under 3 year warranty with extended warranty for 7 years. I want a response from Subaru of America states that the Crosstrek 2022 is safe to drive and does not have an unintended acceleration issue since Subaru conducted the inspection.

9 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

This is not a safety issue. But the paint on the car seems to be of poor quality that is easily chipped or stained by bird droppings. The hood of the car has a multiple chips in the paint. The car has been well taken care of and normal driving conditions. For only 18000 miles on the car, the paint seems very thin and poor durability to hold up to normal driving conditions.

10 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

I have had my car jumped twice in the last 7 days. Today I will be replacing the battery with aaa. Is there a recall on my vehicle? I saw an article there is a recall for starting issues and the coils. Please advise. Thank you.

11 Equipment problem of the 2015 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

Pressing the horn button on the steering wheel does not sound the horn. However, pushing the “lock” or “panic” button on the key fob still makes the horn beep. So the horn itself works, but pressing on the steering wheel does absolutely nothing. Other buttons on the steering column still work (cruise control, radio controls, etc). Only pressing the horn button doesn’t work thus making me unable to alert other drivers of my presence if they are drifting toward me. This has not been evaluated by a mechanic or dealer yet as I do not have the money to do so. However, a simple search on reddit will show you that many others are experiencing this with their Subaru Crosstreks. There were no symptoms or issues that led to this. It simply stopped working one day. And I am not someone who hits their horn very often so this is not an overuse issue. Once the horn button stopped working on the steering wheel, it has not worked since. I have not had the ability to alert drivers with my horn for over a month.

12 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

Random cracking of windshield while parked. Beginning from the very top of the windshield downward 6-7 inches. No chips, or cracks in the area. Was not hit by anything.

13 Equipment problem of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 01/11/2025

The windshield in our 2022 Subaru Crosstrek has gained 2 cracks for no apparent reason. The windshield has cracked under normal stress/strain over a prolonged period of time. There was no incident that caused this unacceptable cracking. Furthermore it is unsafe. I do not look forward to paying replacement costs associated with eye-sight recalibration and winshield repair. . . . Not sure why this vehicle isn't the class action lawsuit against Subaru of America with powell et al. . . And of course we first noticed the cracks at about 40,000 miles. They just showed up one day, indicated that after prolonged strain they reached their breaking point.

14 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

Subaru owners have reported experiencing premature parasitic battery drain in vehicles equipped with starlink in-vehicle technology. The defect presents itself when the equipped data communications module (dcm) attempts to communicate with 3g cellular networks. As 3g networks within the u. S. Are no longer functioning, the call will continuously fail even after the vehicle has been turned off, draining the battery and resulting in a no-start safety risk for drivers. According to those familiar with the issue, the only solution to the battery drain defect is to remove the dcm fuse, thus disabling vital safety features such as hands-free calling. This issue is happening to me specifically, as I have had to jump my car multiple times within a week long period if in a bad cell range area. I have brought this into the dealership multiple times, under warranty, and presented this to them. They refuse to fix, even though multiple online threads and lawsuits point to this issue being known.

15 Equipment problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

The cvt valve body was diagnosed as defective by the Subaru dealership service department. The car was taken to the dcealership when the a/t oil emp, hill assist, abs and traction control, stability control lights came up. The valve body is still available for inspection. The car was taken to the dealership for a brake light switch recall that has the same simptoms.

16 Equipment problem of the 2014 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 12/05/2024

Key was stuck in the ignition and left me stranded unable to leave my car. I took the car to the Subaru dealership for them to assess and repair the issue. During this time the service desk confirmed it was a known issue with the cvt park range switch. They advised me that Subaru of America had done a warranty extension but that I was now outside of the time window for it to be covered. Upon further research this was an issue that was all over the Subaru forum boards with similar issues. I contacted Subaru of America in order to be reimbursed and was offer a $100 as a goodwill gesture and they kept referring to the warranty being extended to cover the issue. Subaru of America failed to issue a recall and instead did the "secret warranty extension" to avoid having to inform their customers and impact their reliability numbers. This is extremely concerning that a brand that is known for reliability would knowingly behave in this way and has me questioning what other items have they done this "secret warranty extension" on instead of following the recall process.

17 Equipment problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 11/20/2024

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the usb a outlets under the head unit that allow connection to android auto and apple carplay yes it is available for inspection upon request how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the connection when hooked up to a phone is intermittent. This results in driver distraction whenever it disconnects due to trying to get it to reconnect. Especially when using gps apps this means the driver may be "lost" until it can be reconnected, which means they will try to get it reconnected while driving which is dangerous. Sometimes it goes in and out every 60-90 seconds. Sometimes it won't connect at all until the vehicle is power cycled or the head unit is reset but neither of these guarantees a stable connection. The issue is not fixed by replacing the usb cable or the phone with a brand new phone. The cables and phone do not have this issue with any other usb port that they have been used on (in other vehicles). Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not on my vehicle but there are hundreds of reports online for years with multiple Subaru models where it has been. I could get it reproduced easily, just haven't had the time. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no this happens every day, at any speed, and has been happening since I got the vehicle at 20000 miles and there are 35000 miles on it now (approximately).

18 Equipment problem of the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 10/25/2024

A piece of the sunroof assembly punctured through the headliner into the passenger seat area of the vehicle. The piece is a sharp 10 inch spike with a spring wrapped around it. Had the piece come into the driver side or if there had been a passenger. It would have gone into there head, either causing an accident or severe injury to the driver or passenger.

19 Equipment problem of the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/29/2024

The key will not come out of the ignition when turned off and in park. The battery runs with no way to turn it off. This is a known issue with a defective part. Subaru will not cover the repair.

20 Equipment problem of the 2014 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/11/2024

Horn does not work. No warning indicating malfunctioned horn. Unable to signal other vehicles to prevent car crash. The broken horn has been inspected by mechanic.

21 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 09/07/2024

My car randomly blows white smoke put of the exhaust and supposedly had the pcv valve replaced in Jan 2020 by the Subaru service center. I am noticing drastically lower mileage as more white smoke seems to be coming out of the exhaust and cannot help but feel these are all related.

22 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 08/17/2024

The windshield cracked during driving. Two linear cracks developed from the bottom of the windshield, one is extending across the whole bottom side of the windshield, the other is extending in the vertical direction. Picture of the cracks can be located in the attachment labeled in blue lines.

23 Equipment problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 08/13/2024

Our 2016 Subaru Crosstrek (automatic transmission) has had intermittent issues with it losing power despite our foot being on the accelerator. It will typically reengage if we take our foot off the accelerator for a bit and then hit the gas again. However, it has become a more frequent problem and feels increasingly unsafe to drive, particularly with our 2 small children in the car, because it loses power without warning so it leaves us vulnerable for being rear-ended while changing lanes, taking turns, etc. We have been working with our local dealership (beyer Subaru in alexandria, va) to address the issue, but they have only been able to replicate the issue once in a 4-week period and they have not been able to document it. The one time they were able to replicate the problem the car was not hooked up to any computer/system. I have found this forum that documents similar problems with Crosstreks - [xxx] , as well as a service bulletin which references a similar issue in 2018-21my Crosstrek 2. 0l mt - https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2021/mc-10201030-0001. Pdf. While the 2nd does refer specifically to manual transmissions, I feel like this is indicative of a trend that is not being acknowledged for other model year's and transmission types, but presents a serious safety issue. ? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

24 Equipment problem of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 07/12/2024

On July 12, 2024 I was driving down the highway when my sunroof suddenly shattered. It sounded like an explosion or a gun went off. I nearly crashed my vehicle. There were no vehicles in front of me however there were vehicles behind me. I looked back into my rear view mirror and saw vehicles veering out of the way as parts of sunroof glass flew. Thankfully I was able to pull over safely. No injuries or accidents occurred. That same day I notified my dealership and they asked me to bring the vehicle in the following day. The following day on July 13, 2024 I took my car into the dealership to be seen and we were told it has happened before to several customers. No explanation was given as to how or why this occured. That same day I contacted Subaru of America and a case was assigned. We are still trying to sort out the issue and get the sunroof repaired.

25 Equipment problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 06/28/2024

On two incidents randomly and without warning the car failed to accelerate while driving in traffic on an open road and I had to coast to safety and put in park, then drive, then travel less than five miles home. Both times I immediately scheduled service with suburu with appointments about a week out. The car drove without incident while awaiting service. Service failed to replicate the problem, diagnose or remedy it after having the car a week and I was told“vehicle is operating properly at that time”. The second occurrence at the end of June was far more dangerous as I was traveling at a higher speed in heavy traffic on a multi lane road when it occurred car is unsafe for me, passengers and other drivers. I risk being stranded. I have no sense of reliability or safety and the car is just now at 30k.

26 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 06/08/2024

I was driving to a friends house . When the engine started sputtering billowing blue smoke , the engine just stopped . I had it towed to my mechanics shop. Maui fix auto 808-877-3731 wailuku maui hawaii . He told me engine failed , extended warranty thru geico would not cover. I work as the equivalent of a park ranger. For the state of hawaii being a first responder this is techically my 3 Subaru purchased from the dealer . This vehicle died at 60,000. Miles and 5 years I bought this car for reliability , to get to work and respond ASAP . My car is dead I wish some one in Subaru had “love “ like they do in commercials. I need help fixing my car please .

27 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

The passenger window switch on the drivers side door panel is loose and is jammed (will not depress). Nearly impossible to get passenger window to go down.

28 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 05/13/2024

Anti-lockout mechanism failed to prevent telematics-initiated lockout. 1) driver placed live child , keys, phone into car 2) driver closed door with keys inside. The car normally refuses to lock under these conditions, detecting key inside, and preventing a hazard to infant who is unable to unlock the car. 3) remote telematics command issued from 3rd party inadvertently locks car remotely. Driver has now lost control of the car lock state, and is locked out with child inside. Since it's a sunny day, car internal temperature increases, causing threat to child. 4) emergency efforts to reach 3rd party to unlock the car to free child are successful ~10 minutes later , avoiding harm to child. However, if driver had been unable to reach the third party, the only alternatives would have been 911/break-glass.

29 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

The infotainment system and apple carplay connectivity is posing a safety hazard. When I’m on a phone call my audio will randomly cut out and suddenly the person on the other side of the call can no longer hear me. In order to fix the issue I must pick up my phone while I’m driving to disconnect from apple carplay and reconnect. I have tried countless troubleshooting methods and reported the problem to the dealership. They don’t seem to have a solution for it. This is a serious safety hazard because I can end up getting into an accident from having to pick up my phone to correct this issue. It happens randomly and sometimes multiple times during a single call.

30 Equipment problem of the 2014 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

I have been getting my 2014 Subaru Crosstrek serviced at continental Subaru in anchorage, alaska for the last 4. 5 years. I initially thought that they were an honest dealer/mechanic. I originally bought my Subaru in California and drove it up to anchorage and it has been here ever since. My car burns oil very quickly. I mentioned this several times and the dealer always said it wasn't that big of an issue. Between oil changes I frequently had to add a couple of quarts of oil in addition to what they added during the oil changes because the car was burning so much oil. Recently in the last year, continental Subaru told me my spark plugs were bad. I brought the car in because my cylinders were misfiring. They replaced the spark plugs. However a month later the issue still persisted. I called Subaru and had them replace the spark plugs again. At this point they said it was just the spark plugs. The issue persisted. I took my Subaru to a local mechanic this time since I felt like continental was not being honest in their inspection of my car. Turns out the problem is much worse than Subaru was letting on for so many years. My car burns a lot of oil. Which is a manufacturing issue. They continually told me it wasn't an issue. Probably because my car was still under warranty. Now that my car is not under warranty they finally admit that there are a lot of underlying issues. Except now I have to pay out of pocket because the car is now out of warranty. Since the car burns oil at such a fast rate, the head gaskets have warped. The valve cover gaskets need to be replaced and are leaking oil into my spark plugs and my coils. So now that my car is out of warranty suddenly I have to pay out of pocket almost $9000 to get the valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, spark plugs, coils, engine harness, all replaced. The variable valve timing is leaking. And there is internal mixing of oil and coolant in the motor. They have been extremely dishonest with me for years. I want a recall.

31 Equipment problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/22/2024

Suddenly warning light "check engine" came on along with eye sight malfunction warning. "I rab off" "check engine" automatic emergency braking not working. Yes, available for inspection. Not confirmed yet by dealer. It is the weekend. There were no unusual symptoms prior to adas malfunction.

32 Equipment problem of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/19/2024

Potential safety hazard ? engine auto start/stop feature for gas savings and emmisons control works by applying brakes and engine shuts off, it restarts when brakes released. Normal operation, but I have noticed that unbuckeling the seatbelt or opening the door will cause it to restart even though brakes are applied. . This could cause an accident as it's an unexpected restart of the engine in drive. Recommend this feature be disabled until door/seatbelt closed or seatbelt buckled or car in park before restart. Someone thinking car is off but actually in a pause restart could accidentally open door and upon getting out the car would start and move potential loss of control. My 2013 vw passat would alarm to place in park if door open or seatbelt not worn. . Subaru starts ! I consider this a potential dangerous condition as it's not expect restart.

33 Equipment problem of the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

I have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek 5 speed manual transmission and it only has 64000 on it. The clutch went out and I took it to the dealership to have the car worked on and hopefully repaired. At first they said it was the clutch and master cylinder. Then they called me back and said the entire transmission needed to be replaced and it would cost $9000! seriously? at only 64000 miles? somehow some kind of "snout" broke off and they needed to replace the whole thing. Blue book on this car is only slightly over $9000 and I need to spend what it is worth to repair? I may never own another Subaru ever again if this is what happens at such a low mileage.

34 Equipment problem of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 02/26/2024

This is not specific to the Crosstrek. Subaru's remote connect app "mysubaru" has a dangerous flaw. When buying a vehicle pre-owned, the previous owner may still have access to the car. Subaru's call center says it takes at least 5 business days for a "transfer of ownership" process to occur. More often, customers never gain access to their pre-owned Subaru. The main cause of concern is that the previous owner may still have access to remote start the vehicle! imagine you park your Subaru in your garage overnight, just for someone to start it remotely. Carbon monoxide is borderless and colorless! this problem will eventually kill someone!.

35 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Failure Date: 02/19/2024

I had purchased my car over a weekend and in less than 2 days, on my way to work, I noticed that the horn volume and reliability was severely diminished to the point where you can't hear it if you have the windows rolled up inside the vehicle, and/or doesnt work at all. I used my warranty to replace the horn and have the dealership take a look at it. They recognized that it was a problem but even after replacing the horn, the issue still persisted.
