Key was stuck in the ignition and left me stranded unable to leave my car. I took the car to the Subaru dealership for them to assess and repair the issue. During this time the service desk confirmed it was a known issue with the cvt park range switch. They advised me that Subaru of America had done a warranty extension but that I was now outside of the time window for it to be covered. Upon further research this was an issue that was all over the Subaru forum boards with similar issues. I contacted Subaru of America in order to be reimbursed and was offer a $100 as a goodwill gesture and they kept referring to the warranty being extended to cover the issue. Subaru of America failed to issue a recall and instead did the "secret warranty extension" to avoid having to inform their customers and impact their reliability numbers. This is extremely concerning that a brand that is known for reliability would knowingly behave in this way and has me questioning what other items have they done this "secret warranty extension" on instead of following the recall process.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the usb a outlets under the head unit that allow connection to android auto and apple carplay yes it is available for inspection upon request how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the connection when hooked up to a phone is intermittent. This results in driver distraction whenever it disconnects due to trying to get it to reconnect. Especially when using gps apps this means the driver may be "lost" until it can be reconnected, which means they will try to get it reconnected while driving which is dangerous. Sometimes it goes in and out every 60-90 seconds. Sometimes it won't connect at all until the vehicle is power cycled or the head unit is reset but neither of these guarantees a stable connection. The issue is not fixed by replacing the usb cable or the phone with a brand new phone. The cables and phone do not have this issue with any other usb port that they have been used on (in other vehicles). Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not on my vehicle but there are hundreds of reports online for years with multiple Subaru models where it has been. I could get it reproduced easily, just haven't had the time. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no this happens every day, at any speed, and has been happening since I got the vehicle at 20000 miles and there are 35000 miles on it now (approximately).

A piece of the sunroof assembly punctured through the headliner into the passenger seat area of the vehicle. The piece is a sharp 10 inch spike with a spring wrapped around it. Had the piece come into the driver side or if there had been a passenger. It would have gone into there head, either causing an accident or severe injury to the driver or passenger.

The key will not come out of the ignition when turned off and in park. The battery runs with no way to turn it off. This is a known issue with a defective part. Subaru will not cover the repair.
Horn does not work. No warning indicating malfunctioned horn. Unable to signal other vehicles to prevent car crash. The broken horn has been inspected by mechanic.
My car randomly blows white smoke put of the exhaust and supposedly had the pcv valve replaced in Jan 2020 by the Subaru service center. I am noticing drastically lower mileage as more white smoke seems to be coming out of the exhaust and cannot help but feel these are all related.

Our 2016 Subaru Crosstrek (automatic transmission) has had intermittent issues with it losing power despite our foot being on the accelerator. It will typically reengage if we take our foot off the accelerator for a bit and then hit the gas again. However, it has become a more frequent problem and feels increasingly unsafe to drive, particularly with our 2 small children in the car, because it loses power without warning so it leaves us vulnerable for being rear-ended while changing lanes, taking turns, etc. We have been working with our local dealership (beyer Subaru in alexandria, va) to address the issue, but they have only been able to replicate the issue once in a 4-week period and they have not been able to document it. The one time they were able to replicate the problem the car was not hooked up to any computer/system. I have found this forum that documents similar problems with Crosstreks - [xxx] , as well as a service bulletin which references a similar issue in 2018-21my Crosstrek 2. 0l mt - https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2021/mc-10201030-0001. Pdf. While the 2nd does refer specifically to manual transmissions, I feel like this is indicative of a trend that is not being acknowledged for other model year's and transmission types, but presents a serious safety issue. ? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. On July 12, 2024 I was driving down the highway when my sunroof suddenly shattered. It sounded like an explosion or a gun went off. I nearly crashed my vehicle. There were no vehicles in front of me however there were vehicles behind me. I looked back into my rear view mirror and saw vehicles veering out of the way as parts of sunroof glass flew. Thankfully I was able to pull over safely. No injuries or accidents occurred. That same day I notified my dealership and they asked me to bring the vehicle in the following day. The following day on July 13, 2024 I took my car into the dealership to be seen and we were told it has happened before to several customers. No explanation was given as to how or why this occured. That same day I contacted Subaru of America and a case was assigned. We are still trying to sort out the issue and get the sunroof repaired.

On two incidents randomly and without warning the car failed to accelerate while driving in traffic on an open road and I had to coast to safety and put in park, then drive, then travel less than five miles home. Both times I immediately scheduled service with suburu with appointments about a week out. The car drove without incident while awaiting service. Service failed to replicate the problem, diagnose or remedy it after having the car a week and I was told“vehicle is operating properly at that time”. The second occurrence at the end of June was far more dangerous as I was traveling at a higher speed in heavy traffic on a multi lane road when it occurred car is unsafe for me, passengers and other drivers. I risk being stranded. I have no sense of reliability or safety and the car is just now at 30k.
I was driving to a friends house . When the engine started sputtering billowing blue smoke , the engine just stopped . I had it towed to my mechanics shop. Maui fix auto 808-877-3731 wailuku maui hawaii . He told me engine failed , extended warranty thru geico would not cover. I work as the equivalent of a park ranger. For the state of hawaii being a first responder this is techically my 3 Subaru purchased from the dealer . This vehicle died at 60,000. Miles and 5 years I bought this car for reliability , to get to work and respond ASAP . My car is dead I wish some one in Subaru had “love “ like they do in commercials. I need help fixing my car please .
The passenger window switch on the drivers side door panel is loose and is jammed (will not depress). Nearly impossible to get passenger window to go down.
Anti-lockout mechanism failed to prevent telematics-initiated lockout. 1) driver placed live child , keys, phone into car 2) driver closed door with keys inside. The car normally refuses to lock under these conditions, detecting key inside, and preventing a hazard to infant who is unable to unlock the car. 3) remote telematics command issued from 3rd party inadvertently locks car remotely. Driver has now lost control of the car lock state, and is locked out with child inside. Since it's a sunny day, car internal temperature increases, causing threat to child. 4) emergency efforts to reach 3rd party to unlock the car to free child are successful ~10 minutes later , avoiding harm to child. However, if driver had been unable to reach the third party, the only alternatives would have been 911/break-glass.

The infotainment system and apple carplay connectivity is posing a safety hazard. When I’m on a phone call my audio will randomly cut out and suddenly the person on the other side of the call can no longer hear me. In order to fix the issue I must pick up my phone while I’m driving to disconnect from apple carplay and reconnect. I have tried countless troubleshooting methods and reported the problem to the dealership. They don’t seem to have a solution for it. This is a serious safety hazard because I can end up getting into an accident from having to pick up my phone to correct this issue. It happens randomly and sometimes multiple times during a single call.
I have been getting my 2014 Subaru Crosstrek serviced at continental Subaru in anchorage, alaska for the last 4. 5 years. I initially thought that they were an honest dealer/mechanic. I originally bought my Subaru in California and drove it up to anchorage and it has been here ever since. My car burns oil very quickly. I mentioned this several times and the dealer always said it wasn't that big of an issue. Between oil changes I frequently had to add a couple of quarts of oil in addition to what they added during the oil changes because the car was burning so much oil. Recently in the last year, continental Subaru told me my spark plugs were bad. I brought the car in because my cylinders were misfiring. They replaced the spark plugs. However a month later the issue still persisted. I called Subaru and had them replace the spark plugs again. At this point they said it was just the spark plugs. The issue persisted. I took my Subaru to a local mechanic this time since I felt like continental was not being honest in their inspection of my car. Turns out the problem is much worse than Subaru was letting on for so many years. My car burns a lot of oil. Which is a manufacturing issue. They continually told me it wasn't an issue. Probably because my car was still under warranty. Now that my car is not under warranty they finally admit that there are a lot of underlying issues. Except now I have to pay out of pocket because the car is now out of warranty. Since the car burns oil at such a fast rate, the head gaskets have warped. The valve cover gaskets need to be replaced and are leaking oil into my spark plugs and my coils. So now that my car is out of warranty suddenly I have to pay out of pocket almost $9000 to get the valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, spark plugs, coils, engine harness, all replaced. The variable valve timing is leaking. And there is internal mixing of oil and coolant in the motor. They have been extremely dishonest with me for years. I want a recall.
Suddenly warning light "check engine" came on along with eye sight malfunction warning. "I rab off" "check engine" automatic emergency braking not working. Yes, available for inspection. Not confirmed yet by dealer. It is the weekend. There were no unusual symptoms prior to adas malfunction.
Potential safety hazard ? engine auto start/stop feature for gas savings and emmisons control works by applying brakes and engine shuts off, it restarts when brakes released. Normal operation, but I have noticed that unbuckeling the seatbelt or opening the door will cause it to restart even though brakes are applied. . This could cause an accident as it's an unexpected restart of the engine in drive. Recommend this feature be disabled until door/seatbelt closed or seatbelt buckled or car in park before restart. Someone thinking car is off but actually in a pause restart could accidentally open door and upon getting out the car would start and move potential loss of control. My 2013 vw passat would alarm to place in park if door open or seatbelt not worn. . Subaru starts ! I consider this a potential dangerous condition as it's not expect restart.
I have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek 5 speed manual transmission and it only has 64000 on it. The clutch went out and I took it to the dealership to have the car worked on and hopefully repaired. At first they said it was the clutch and master cylinder. Then they called me back and said the entire transmission needed to be replaced and it would cost $9000! seriously? at only 64000 miles? somehow some kind of "snout" broke off and they needed to replace the whole thing. Blue book on this car is only slightly over $9000 and I need to spend what it is worth to repair? I may never own another Subaru ever again if this is what happens at such a low mileage.
This is not specific to the Crosstrek. Subaru's remote connect app "mysubaru" has a dangerous flaw. When buying a vehicle pre-owned, the previous owner may still have access to the car. Subaru's call center says it takes at least 5 business days for a "transfer of ownership" process to occur. More often, customers never gain access to their pre-owned Subaru. The main cause of concern is that the previous owner may still have access to remote start the vehicle! imagine you park your Subaru in your garage overnight, just for someone to start it remotely. Carbon monoxide is borderless and colorless! this problem will eventually kill someone!.
I had purchased my car over a weekend and in less than 2 days, on my way to work, I noticed that the horn volume and reliability was severely diminished to the point where you can't hear it if you have the windows rolled up inside the vehicle, and/or doesnt work at all. I used my warranty to replace the horn and have the dealership take a look at it. They recognized that it was a problem but even after replacing the horn, the issue still persisted.
The windshield cowl is greatly separating at the bottom where it meets the wipers. The windshield and cowl are factory and no replacement or alterations done during the life of the car. I am the only owner.
I received a notification on my Subaru app in January about the drive shaft recall that occurred in November 10th, just 2 days after I made the purchase of my car on November 8th. It took approximately 2 months after initial notice of recall for me to receive any notification. I have at this point managed to bring my car in for a check up to the dealership I purchased the car from. It was determined on January 31st that the driveshaft did have problems and I was given a car rental. Two weeks later there is still no news about the part replacement, despite the original recall notice having the date of November 10th, 2023 as I have attached. Please provide any update on the situation. This is not acceptable treatment of customer. Not only was I not notified of the recall that occurred just 2 days after my purchasing of the vehicle, now 3 months after the recall there are still no parts available for the repair. For 2 months I was driving a car that had a recall without knowing it. It was found that the drive shaft was damaged and I could have gotten into an accident. Looking on NHTSA the recall notice shows up with the date of November 9th just 1 day after my purchase.
My back-up camera is not working properly- very blurry/foggy01.

Spontaneous windshield cracking, no apparent reason. No impacts.
I got my new Crosstrek and only drive it for 2 months 2676 miles and got multiple chips on my windshield and cracking later on. I have been driving to tahoe for snowboard with my previous corolla and have never experienced this issue. But this car got chips and crack so easy…I called to dealer and they refused to fix this issue so I also called Subaru american and their response are so close. How can I drive this car without fixing the windshield issue? very disappointing.
Dealer installed oem trailer hitch and wiring harness as part of the new vehicle purchase agreement. Installed prior to my taking delivery at the selling Subaru dealership. During a service visit today at a local RV/trailer retail/service center, the technician inspected my hitch and found loose/untightened trailer hitch attachment bolts. Luckly I have never pulled a trailer since purchasing the vehicle. No damage or accidents have occurred because of this. Service tech (not by Subaru) tightened all the bolts to make sure my Subaru was safe and roadworthy. Thank you in advance for your attention to this.
Pulling out of the garage, when I applied the brakes, the car came to a stop, then started beeping, and the control panel started flashing that several systems were disabled, and I needed to check the manual. The car shifter would not move (it was in drive at the time, but wouldn't move). After turning the car off, the screen flashed to place car in park. At this point, the car was approximately 2/3 out of the garage (and blocking the garage door), with the front bumper just overhanging the curb of the street. Subsequent attempts to start the car and put it in gear to move it back into the garage were unsuccessful. The car refused to go into gear, and the display continued to flash about disabled systems. After approximately 75 minutes, the car 'reset' enough to put it in gear. This allowed the roadside assisnance driver to get the car on the tow truck without having to use tow chains. The dealership has not yet determined the cause of this behavior.
I reached out to a local dealership to trade in my car. Upon getting there, they told me that I am in need of new tires. The car has only been driven 25k miles and they stated that new tires are needed. I have gone to this dealership prior and not once have they stated otherwise indicating or checking the issue as to why this is happening to this car. If it was something due to an alignment, then why was this not checked and indicated before the car’s tires are being worn out? or, is this a manufacturer defect? now, I have to get new tires on a car that has barely made it past 25k miles.
Not sure yet what component or system failed as the car is being towed to dealer. On 12/23/24, the engine made a grinding noise and then the car completelyshut down and froze on the highway. No power, all the dashboard lights flashed on - and I could not put the car in park. Since I was on the highway - my safety and safety of drivers behind me were at great risk until a help truck was able to block the road. Car will be inspected by Subaru on 12/26. Subaru was closed 12/23 pm, 12/24, 12/25 there were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of a problem prior to the failure.
Car was thought to be placed in park, key was easily removed, and then the car became mobile and rolled downhill and could not be shifted back into park.

I started having issues with my car when I could not turn it off -- the key was stuck in the ignition and I was unable to turn the car fully off. This continued to happen and the only fix I found to get the car off was to turn the car back on, shift the gear into drive, then try to turn it off again. Sometimes it would take repeated tries of turning the car on and trying to turn it off. The problems then got worse when I started to have issues starting the car as well; the car would struggle to start and I lost confidence in the vehicle. Every workday I have to drive my car to a location where I have to turn off my vehicle while a security check is performed -- one day I got stuck at this checkpoint when I could not start my car. I was afraid to drive my car, thinking I could get stuck somewhere with it running or with it unable to start. A certified Subaru repair shop confirmed the issue is a known problem with Subaru parts described in a technical service bulletin (TSB 16-112-18r). There were no warning lights before these problems began and the Subaru dealer told me when they initially ran a diagnostic on the car it came back as having no issues. Since having the part in the gear shifter replaced at personal expense all problems have been resolved. Since Subaru knew of the faulty part in their vehicles, I think they should have issued a recall or at minimum warned their drivers.
Debris on the interstate (likely a rock from a dump truck a few vehicles ahead) hit the lower right corner of the windshield on the passenger side. The impact immediately caused a large chip and bullseye shaped crack almost six inches in diameter. The impact was loud enough to make my ears ring. I have not experienced this kind of sound or damage in other brand vehicles. The windshield needed to be replaced and paid for out of pocket. It was not covered by warranty or insurance.
Windshield crackers with no outside damage. Started on drivers side and is spreading across.
In early November 2023, NHTSA recall number23v755000 was issued for my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. I was not notified by NHTSA or Subaru even though none of my contact info has changed since buying this new vehicle. I believe that this creates a potential safety issue if owners are not made aware. I found out through carfax in early January 2024.
Dealer indicated control arm bushings needed to be replaced because they were cracked. I've owned about 20 cars and have never replaced a control arm bushing. . . Much less on a car that is only a few years old (2018). I was told this needed to be fixed because the failing control arm bushings could cause me to lose control of the car. I realize things breakdown and need to be repaired, but as I said I've had about 20 cars over my lifetime and never replaced or been told that I needed to replace a control arm bushing. I question if that part is defective on Subaru Crosstrek (especially when I consider that my local mechanic indicated Subaru has had all kinds of problems with their control arm bushings).
