1 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2020 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/13/2026

Vehicle entered limp mode at highway speed (approximately 70 mph) on [xxx] freeway in washington state, it felt like I had rear ended a vehicle it shut down so hard. This was due to mis diagnosed inspection and service repair from a local Subaru dealer. Vehicle lost power rapidly, creating a dangerous safety situation. Root cause traced to tcv/pcv system defects previously documented by authorized Subaru dealers. Previous Subaru authorized dealer replaced a torn pcv hose but did not diagnose the problem causing the tear. The dash warning lights were still illuminated after the diagnostic and repair when vehicle was picked up after service. I have attached a more detailed overview of the dangerous situation. The car finally lost power on the freeway while I was in the fast lane pushing 70 miles an hour. I was in the fast lane and with no power I had to cut across both lanes of traffic and get to the shoulder. I was 45 minutes from my home and it was dark, raining and the Subaru would not start. I called a mobile mechanic I found online who came out to the freeway, roadside, where I was stranded. He worked on the car for a couple of hours in the rain. He got the car to start but it would not stay running. I had the car towed to a friend's house in vancouver, wa about 6 miles from where it had broken down. The same mobile mechanic came out and changed out one of the oil actuators and cleaned and replaced two of the ocvs then flushed the oil system and put new oil in the car. Cleared all the codes. The car starts, idles and will drive up to about 1500 rpm’s but any more than 1500 rpm’s and it dies. It's in limp mode and will move past those rpm’s. The warning lights and the pcv house splitting must have been signs of something else being wrong. That is the discussion I had with wilsonville Subaru. They diagnosed the vehicle and let me know the pcv hose was the problem. Car was towed to [xxx] in vancouver, wa sitting since April 15th, 2026 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of in.

Failure Date: 05/13/2024

The contact's son stated that the vehicle was emitting smoke from the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that his son pulled off the highway and stopped the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the positive crankcase ventilation valve (pcv) had separated and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. 5 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

My vehicle lost power while driving today on the interstate. I had cruise control set and the car was accelerating up a hill. It was like my car shifted into neutral. I was able to safely get to the shoulder and initially my car would not restart. I did get it to restart after a couple of tries and drove it home. I see a recall for a similar issue: 19v-856, but my car is not included. I have replaced the pcv already and this is the second time my car has done this toward the end of a long road trip (1000+ miles).

6 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

Running in my 2016 Subaru Forester at 70 mph on crowded interstate highway in texas and all power was lost. No warning, no warning lights, nothing. . . Just lost all power and shot off while driving. . Car rolled to a stop and then I had it towed. Restarted after a while and drove fine. Saw a lot of comments online for a current Subaru recall that has exactly the same symptoms, but for the 2019 year Forester. Subaru recall item: wuw-08 and also notes as recall #: 19v856000 - engine and engine cooling:exhaust system:emission control:crankcase (pcv). Dealer doen't want to touch it sr ince it's a different model year. Could be very dangerous.

7 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2014 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/02/2020

My 2014 Subaru Forester constantly burning oil. I have taken my car to tyson’s Subaru multiple times when within warranty, they conducted multiple consumption test, admitted it burns oil but not enough to fix under warranty. I have my car in and out of the shop since 70-80k and now burning more oil at 140k. I sent this complaint to Subaru of America: my 2014 has been burning oil since 70,000/80,000. I have had two pcv valves replaced and numerous oil changes at stohlman Subaru of tysons, virginia. I now have 106k and the Forester is still burning oil. I can’t go pass 3k miles without the oil being low. Am I still under the warranty for this issue? why didn’t stohlman fixed the issue when it was originally found at 70 or 80k? they said it was the pcv valve twice within one year and I paid to replace the pcv valve twice. Now my car is still burning oil and not fixed and I am inn the shop again! what can I do other than complaining! have others complained about the same thing?.

8 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/13/2019

Vehicle feels as though it is about to stall. This occurs sporadically when stopping or when under acceleration on the freeway. I have taken the vehicle into two separate dealerships, neither could diagnose a problem. However one did suggest it may be a pcv valve. This appears quite similar to the recent recall (19v856) which does not include this model year.

9 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/13/2012

The contact owns a 2011 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that the vehicle was burning oil at a higher rate than normal. The contact stated that the vehicle was burning a quarter of oil every thousand miles, which caused the oil consumption to surpass suggested amounts by the manufacturer. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle was leaking oil from the pcv valve, causing the vehicle to burn oil. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed other leaks were the cause; however, the locations were not specified. The dealer placed a short block engine into the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who informed the contact of a pending lawsuit related to the failure. The failure mileage was 938.
