1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/18/2021

Have a 2019 Subaru forrester. Had 30,000 mile service recently at dealer. Since then, multiple electric malfunctions. First abs turned off, then auto start stop started malfunctioning for 2 weeks, took to the dealership, they told me "hood sensor malfunctioning, and bring it back in 4 weeks when part arrives. " four days later, I was driving my car and in the middle of traffic, engine shut off completely! whole dashboard lit up with "eyesight disabled" sign, engine light on. Unable to move the car at all. After 10 minutes of car stopped in the middle of traffic with engine disabled, finally was able to restart the car, then engine shut down again. Took it to dealership and they replaced hood sensor and said "everything is fine. " meanwhile multiple electric failure issues, passenger side seatbelt alarm beeps even though seat empty, abs shuts off randomly. Please beware 2019 forrester has catastrophic electronic failure that Subaru is failing to address properly as a company. This is a major safety hazard! imagine car shutting off in middle of traffic repeatedly. I bought this car new, have kept it well serviced with oil changes. Subaru seems to think this is ok. They kept saying "it's just an electrical issue," just an electrical issue that can cause severe injury and accidents! how many accidents will have to occur before Subaru will take responsibility for this and fixes this?.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2013 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/27/2020

1. Cars short block is replaced 4 days ago under warranty. The temperature dropped to -20 celcius (-25 celsius with wind chill) I started the car and it is making rattling noise. Although I always warm the car by for approx 5 min like last day, yet a continuous rattling noise is there, and I have a feeling that time-to-time it shake vigorously after short block replacement by the Subaru dealer. I have yet to contact the dealer for the issue. Presently vehicle is making rattling noise while stationary and all the time when in motion too. 2. Seat belt receiver for driver and passenger side and literally bad; dealer refused to replace them under warrant. Although I put a little of lithium grease then-after they are working great.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/24/2020

Dealer says my 2011 Subaru Forester (~60,000 mi) has a cam carrier oil leak that will require a $2,500 repair to fix, as it involves removing the engine. I'm concerned that a leaking camshaft seal can compromise the timing belt, leading to a catastrophic engine failure and damage.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

While driving my vehicle wants to stall and I have to floor the gas pedal and it slowly starts to accelerate. I'm afraid that one of these days it will not accelerate and will cause a fatal accident. I brought it in to pine belt Subaru in lakewood, NJ for service and they said the software needs updating and they updated it. However, it's still stalling. This stalling happens many times. The last time was on 03/22/2019.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2009 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

This past April, I purchased a 2009 Subaru Forester from byers Subaru and eagerly anticipated the ownership experience Subaru promises and proudly bases its reputation. Contrary to the Subaru promise, my experience over the first 3 months has been a nightmare. Prior to the purchase, I had committed to having the scheduled maintenance performed by the dealer and did. The first service was performed within a few weeks of purchase ($700). A month later the vehicle stopped running and required a tow to a texas Subaru dealership. Initial thoughts were a timing belt failure. $600 dollars later, I was told that the timing belt pulley had failed and would require extensive engine repairs or an engine replacement ($2500 to $6000). The timing belt was not due to be replaced for another 10,000 miles. Due to the high repair cost and the fact that the damage occurred within a short period of time after purchase, I reached out to Subaru America for assistance with the repair. Subaru committed to 50% reimbursement of the initial $600 dealer charge. I approached byers Subaru with the same request for the same reason and was informed by a manager, that it was not their problem and that “I had an opportunity to purchase an extended warranty”.

10 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

While cruising at 40 mph up a slight incline, the engine suddenly jerked a few times, then stopped. I was able to pull to the side of the road. The car was towed to my mechanic's garage where he diagnosed the problem as a failure of the air conditioning unit to open the valve which allows cool air to enter the cabin. The air conditioning unit literally froze, resulting in the belt which engages the engine stopping and causing the pistons to stop while the valves kept moving. Severe engine damage resulted which required machining of cylinder heads and replacement of many parts. If this incident had happened going at high speed on a highway, serious injury or fatality may have occurred.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

Problems with tensioner, front belt cover and head gasket. The front belt cover and tensioner failed two months after the head gasket was repaired. The mechanic did not torque down the tensioner bolt and caused it to come loose. The valves were bent even though the motor is considered noninterference. Two recalls were applied to the vehicle without the consumer's knowledge (recall wwg90 & wwp99). The seal on top of the tensioner failed. The mechanics had given two results; 3 cylinders with no compression. The vehicle was losing oil before the head gasket problem in December 2003. The consumer also noticed changes in the oil level between changes. The consumer requested a new engine.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/24/2004

I bought a 1999 Subaru Forester s less than 2 years ago. In December 2003, at approx. 71,200 miles, the car began loosing antifreeze. I discovered that I needed a head gasket job. Now I find they have a recall on this. Shortly thereafter I discovered the mysterious "vanishing oil" problem with this engine. At 75,775, I checked the oil and found it mostly gone! I returned to my mechanic, who found no external leak and no sign of oil burning on the spark plugs. After doing some research (see NHTSA complaints), this appears to be a chronic problem with these engines. I continued to monitor the situation and add oil as necessary. I seem to need 1 quart per 1500 miles, approximately. Now, the final problem. On 3/24/04, at 77,848, I was driving at 65 mph, heard a strange noise and the check engine light came on. I immediately turned off the engine and coasted to a safe turn out. After towing the car to my mechanic, he discovered that the top of the timing belt tensioner had popped off, releasing the hydraulic and of course the timing belt. He has never seen a tensioner fail, and out of the hundreds of new timing belts he has done, he only had to replace about a dozen that were out of specs. We debated a course of action and, since it is a non-interference motor, I decided to replace the tensioner and not the entire motor. He also did a hand crank to check for resistance or other head damage. After waiting nearly 2 weeks for parts (due to Subaru's part ordering method), he replaced the tensioner. When testing the engine, it did not sound right. He did a compression test and found no compression on 3 cylinders! so now I had the shocking prospect of needing a new engine!I decided I better get help from the dealer, as this all appears to be a quality issue that should not be happening to this engine at this mileage. The car is now at stohlman Subaru in vienna, va.
