1 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/04/2020

My 2016 Subaru Forester has twice experienced a sudden engine stall while cruising at approx. 70 mph when the fuel was low. In both cases the low fuel warning light was not on and the vehicle showed fuel in the tank with fuel range of 70-100 miles. In both cases once the car was stopped it started again and ran normally until and after refueling. This has happened only at high speed which makes the condition especially dangerous in traffic. After the first incident (@ 42,000 mi. ) I took the vehicle to a Subaru dealer who checked the vehicle and found no explanation. Of course the dealer was not able to duplicate the exact circumstance of the power failure. The vehicle is currently under examination from the second incident which occurred yesterday (@ 50,000 mi. ). I do not know if this is a fuel pump problem but I have seen other posts that suggest that may be the cause.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

Vehicle hesitates during acceleration, worse if ac is on. Engine nearly stalls, losing power. Initially happened during left turn and while vehicle is in middle of intersection in front of oncoming traffic. This is repeated issue over several months.

8 Engine Stall problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/22/2017

On two occasions: traveling at approx 65-70mph the engine suddenly stalls and we have been forced to stop on the shoulder. The steering works, but there is no power going to the engine which eventually stalls. It starts after 2 attempts and then drives normally. First occasion, it was raining and the 'eyesight cameras; were on. At first we thought this was the issue. The second occasion, it was again raining and I turned the cameras off (thinking that may have been the problem before) and it stalled again. Very dangerous to be traveling at such a high rate of speed in traffic to have engine stall.

9 Engine Stall problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/17/2017

I filed two earlier complaints but failed to record the complaint # on the first one. The second one is #11003831. The problem concerns engine stall at highway speeds. It occurred to me on two separate occasions (July 2016 salina, KS and 6/17/17 on I-44 okla turnpike near claremore. Both times I was going about 70 mph, cruise control was on and the a/c. Couldn't restart the car. Had it towed to tulsa dealership. Mechanic said it was bad/dirty gasoline. The torque converter on the cvt transmissions apparently may also be a cause. Forbes mag recently did a article on this problem. My car year/model was included in the article, which also mentioned that federal regulators have received 100 complaints from consumers. I don't know if I will receive a letter from Subaru or what my next step is. I plan on showing the forbes article to my local dealership, but I don't know if that will force any action.

10 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

Non-turbo model stalls in traffic without warning. First air conditioner shuts off, along with electrical, then engine stalls. Nothing unusual prior to shutting off. Vehicle becomes nearly impossible to control with limited braking and steering. Car will not immediately re-start. This has occurred six times since new; dealer has not fixed problem, but has seen video of the car stalling in traffic that my wife took while I was driving. Vehicle was in gear, moving at low to moderate speed each time, with ac operating and no other accessories or unusual situations.

11 Engine Stall problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/12/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Subaru Forester. While driving various speeds and attempting to accelerate, the engine stalled, misfired, and hesitated without warning. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

12 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 09/04/2010

We purchased a 2005 Subaru Forester from a Subaru dealer in August 2008 at 60,000 miles. Since August 2008, we had four episodes of engine stalling with check engine lamp coming on. We had to have our car towed four times to the Subaru dealership. The first and third towing resulted in replacement of ignition coil. The second towing resulted in no repair since the problem could not be diagnosed. Before the fourth towing, we just got on a freeway and started to accelerate when engine lost power so we quickly got off the freeway and managed to park Forester in an empty parking lot. The car would not start so we had it towed to the Subaru dealership. We were told that the Forester now needs an engine rebuild since lower engine main bearing had failed, causing residual scoring damage to the cylinder block and both cylinder heads. The dealership has asked for $7000 in rebuilding the engine. The vehicle had 72000 miles at the time of incident. Luckily, there were no injuries but the vehicle lost power all of a sudden and it could have resulted in a serious accident had we been driving at the speed limit instead of slowly accelerating to get on the freeway. All scheduled maintenance and repairs have been performed at the Subaru dealership.
