April 2022 my car started to make noises when accelarating. I took it to several mechanics who could not diagnose the problem. Dec. 30, 2022 I took it to another mechanic who thought it might be the brakes and replaced them. He then test drove the vehicle and the noise remained, so he stopped at a transmission shop and they said possible transmission issues, not sure. No warning light ever came on. I was driving on Dec. 31, 2022 when the sounds were louder. I turned around to go home and was in traffic and down shifted to descend a hill when I downshifted the car stopped and many warning lights came on the dashbosrd. I shifted back into regular gear and the left lane was available so I changed lanes and pulled in to the mndot parking lot which was about 100 feet away. I shut off the vehicle and had it towed to the Subaru dealer. They diagnosed the car with a broken transmission and that since I have a salvage title it is not covered. The repair cost is over $9000.

Forester - 500 miles - consistent and continuing problems: car lurches forward on its own in first gear. - in motion engine not only has excessive (can last 5 seconds or more) "rev-hangs" shifting up from any gear but actually increases by 700-900 rpms. This has caused difficulty in slowing down (reducing speed with downshift). When using brake to reduce speed when this occurs, the engine will begin to race, increasing up to 1500 or more rpms, difficult to control vehicle. - in motion 4th gear - stick shift vibrates excessively - so much so it is visible to the eye and seems like it will have to wear out from the friction, - in motion (intermittent) when vehicle dynamics control engages on upward incline a very loud (multiple) banging occurs at the rea car lurches . - turning, in motion. Engine noise is extremely loud compared to other 2017 Foresters I have driven. Can sound like it is ready to throw a rod in the near future - in motion and stationary Subaru states all is normal. Service manage at dealer states loud engine is definitely not normal for the 2017 model and he experience the excessive rev-hang but doesn't know what to do these things because Subaru says this is normal are normal.

While driving our 2014 Forester xt 2. 0 uphill on the highway at about 50 mph, the cel, hill-assist, eyesight-disabled and another warning light all came on. I pulled off the road, stopped and called the dealer, who said the car could be safely driven in for inspection as the cel was not blinking. Apparently the cel light sets off a bunch more to get your attention. The obd codes the dealer pulled said the catalytic converter had failed (no further explanation was offered). They said a new one would be ordered and installed under warranty. So the dealer put in the new catalytic converter yesterday, and now the engine performs extremely poorly compared to before service. The electronic turbo boost gauge now shows negative boost (I. E. , no activation) until over 20% throttle position in I mode (before, turbo boost was obtainable at 8% throttle). There is a humming sound (rather like the alternator belt noise Ford vans make) that drowns out the engine purr when gently revving the engine in park and, when driving, the cvt shifts very irregularly and at much higher rpms in I mode (e. G. , staying in one gear until tach hits 2000 before shifting where before the tach never went above 1500 at any speed unless we were in s/I or s# mode and shifting manually with the paddles). I have notified Subaru of America of the situation and this car is going back to the shop first thing Monday morning.

Bought the 2009 Forester in December 08. Drove fine for the first two months. Then it started to lag in its shifting. If I was about to stop at a light and the light changed, I put my foot back on the gas and car would not accelerate so I give it more gas and then it kicks in hard almost causing an accident to the car in front of me. It doesn't happen all the time. So I thought it was just me. Until I was driving on the highway about 16 miles from home got off the exit and it did it again. I have had the car in to the dealer 4 times this year for the same problem. The first time tech reset the computer and it drove fine for 3 days then started again. It happens in all types of situations when it wants to. My other mechanic felt the same thing had me take it back to dealer. I am frustrated with driving it. I am also now having the vehicle making loud noises and rough idling, mysterious acceleration that will adjust after car in turned off and on again and a burning smell coming from the engine after being driven. I drive locally a couple of days a week. Subaru dealer wants to take my vehicle home to evaluate transmission. I was told it was because it is a learning transmission, so why hasn't it learned how I drive and I'm the only one driving car.

When driving with the cruise control engaged for 10+ minutes, the car speed begins to drag and surge (suddenly slows, then resumes set speed). The car seems to be actively pulling back against the throttle if I put my foot on the gas to accelerate past the cruise setting, the dragging back against the throttle still occurs. If the cruise is left engaged, the lurching worsens, and when I exit the freeway the (automatic) transmission doesn't want to down shift. It resists until there's a loud noise, the rear of the car bucks, and then it goes into the next lowest gear. This happens through every gear, and then again upshifting from a stop: the rpms wind up higher than normal, the car resists shifting, and then the transmission slams into the next gear. The problem remains until I stop and take the car out of drive, which apparently resets it. The problem is most likely to occur in weather under 70 degrees. The dealer has reprogrammed an engine control module per recall #wwf89, and has also replaced the alternator and the ignition relay, but the problem persists. I believe this problem is dangerous, particularly when it's winding up to shift into fourth gear at 60 miles an hour, and it violently bucks into gear. Also, the problem is getting worse and more unpredictable. Most recently, I was testing the cruise control to see if the problem would occur in rainy weather. When it began surging, I immediately disengaged it, but the drag-back on the throttle continued anyway (this was the first incident in which the lurching continued after I turned off the cruise control). I am concerned this problem is going to occur without the cruise control being engaged at all, and also that the transmission is going to seize up without warning. (note: the "incident date" on this form is the date the first repair was attempted, but the problem actually started happening in April, 2003. The "number of failures" is an estimate -- it happens as often as I test it. ).
