After 4hrs of driving with 2 pit stops in between, I was in 3 lane traffic and down to 1 bar on fuel gauge stating I had 50mi left of driving remaining in tank. . Low fuel light hadn't even turned on yet, only to find that the car had lost power and reduced speed and wouldn't accelerate when I used has pedal. However the interior lights and power windows still worked. I was able to pull off to the side of road and shut the car off. I looked under the hood and found nothing to be out of sorts. No dash lights went off either such as battery or check engine. I started the car back up in 5mins and fueled my car up. Also, during the trip my fuel mileage was consistently going down which the lowest reading days 17mpg when normally 30mpg. This happened the day after taking my vehicle in for new tires at a corporate tire company. 2 weeks later car having troubles starting. Battery and alternator checked out good, so suspected fuel pump. Car dealership states fuel filter inside the pump and even if there was a way to test the pressure it may not be accurate because it could be intermittent failure and doesn't recommend me replacing it. They wanted me to wait until it happens again before looking into it any further. They checked for dtc codes and found none. Also suggested I just upgrade to a newer vehicle and I stated that at 138,000 the car should still be repairable and driveability otherwise what's the point of purchasing to own the vehicle. Obviously the situation was dangerous and could lead to a slew of problems such as standing, accident or even death.

Failure Date: 07/31/2020

Always the drains on the moon roof get clogged and in a heavy rain, the back of the car roof seriously leaks into the car. We do not use the roof. This is a design flaw. Now the electronics box (controls remote key locks, tire pressure gauge, etc) needs to be replaced because it has been wet. This is a $500+ repair that has happened because the roof leaks in serious rain. We believe Subaru should reimburse us for the cost of the electronic box replacement. We also have to pay to get the roof drain unglogged.

Failure Date: 09/08/2019

On two occasions while driving roughly 65 mph the acceleration completely gave out in my car, as though the car went into neutral. I could press down on the accelerator and the rpm's would shoot up in the gauge cluster, but the car simply continued to slow down. I drifted into the shoulder, turned off the car, waited a few minutes, and turned the ignition. Both times, the car resumed driving normally. Both times I brought the car into a Subaru dealership, and both times they kept the car for a few days before saying they couldn't replicate the problem, and that there was nothing they could do. 4 Recreational Vehicle Lpg Tank Valve/gauge problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 04/22/2018

On April 22, 2018, my 2017 Forester with 22,000 miles on it stalled in the carpool lane of a busy la freeway (the 405 southbound near lax) at 4:20 p. M. Traffic in the lane had come to a complete stop and when it picked up again, the engine stalled. I immediately called 911. Chp arrived 20 minutes later and pushed me to the side of the road. A tow truck then towed my vehicle 47 miles to irvine Subaru where the following day I was advised that their mechanics found nothing wrong with the car in spite of the loss of power which jeopardized my safety and that of my passenger. It should be mentioned that when this event occurred, my low fuel light had not alerted me to the fact that my fuel level was low; my on-board computer indicated I still had 80 miles until empty and the fuel gauge displayed one bar. In addition, I can state with 100% certainty that my tank was not empty as the tow truck driver was able to restart the engine and in fact drove it up on the flatbed of his truck when he loaded it there. As a result of this incident, I have lost faith in the safety of my vehicle and am leery of driving it long distances from home; a result that is unacceptable to me given that this vehicle is only a year-and-a-half old. Driving along freeway when check engine light came on, as well as, blinking cruise control light, traction light, and blinking between blue and red on temperature gauge light. Car started to accelerate oddly and make chirping noise. Noticed smoke billowing behind me and getting worse to the point of not being able to see behind me. Smoke started a light yellow, mostly white, became white and grey, and impossible to see through. Turned on hazards, pulled onto shoulder, turned off vehicle. Vehicle continued to smoke. I got out of the vehicle saw flames under the hood and moved a good distance away to call 911.

6 Recreational Vehicle Lpg Tank Valve/gauge problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/31/2017

Our Subaru Forester shuts down as we drive on the expressway. It has happened 4 times now on 10/24/2016, 3/28/2017, 5/31/2017, and 12/31/2018. It happens only on the expressway during long road trips. The gas tank is usually below a quarter tank, but the check gauge light is not on and the meter says there's 50-70 miles left. We have been lucky to be on 2-lane expressways and to be able to coast the vehicle to the shoulder every time so far. Shortly after the engine stops accelerating, every single warning light on the dashboard lights up and 50% of the time we cannot get the car to restart. Our infant has been traveling with us in the backseat of the vehicle when this has happened and on the last occasion we had to be rescued by state troopers and taken to a safe and warm location because it was single digit temperatures. We have taken the car in for diagnosis and repair every time and they cannot replicate the issue. One time they said it was a bad batter cell and replaced the battery; another time they thought it was the fuel sensors and replaced both of those, yet we are still experiencing the problem. We believe there is a defect with our vehicle and it is putting us in a life-threatening situation. The car has now been in the shop since 1/9 without resolution.

7 Recreational Vehicle Lpg Tank Valve/gauge problem of the 2016 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/26/2016

In a closed parking lot, I was getting ready to park in a space. With my foot on the brake, I cut the wheel to the right and then eased my foot off the brake to maneuver into the parking spot. I pushed the brake again in preparation to straighten the wheels and finish parking, no speed registering on the gauge. With my foot on the brake the vehicle began to accelerate and jumped. I lifted my foot off the brake, and slammed it back down on the brake attempting to halt the vehicle. Instead, with my foot still firmly on the brake, the vehicle accelerated again, and faster, right into a wall. I had been unable to straighten the wheels, so the impact was not head-on, but rather continuing the right-turn's angle, and impact occurred on the driver's side, front-end. 2 airbags deployed with a slight delay, causing severe bruising to my legs which affect my walking, and muscle tears causing severe neck and spine pain. Though I was wearing my seatbelt during the collision, it retracted when I opened the door, and we were unable to dislodge it when we had to move the vehicle for towing. To reiterate, while attempting to park the vehicle at minimal speed, the vehicle accelerated on its own, with my foot firmly pressing the brake.
