While my 75 year-old mother was driving home from the job she still works to pay her bills, the brakes on her Subaru failed. The car was in motion, pulling out of the parking lot of the building where she works. Fortunately, she was able to get to a safe place and stop the vehicle, and thankfully she was not injured. Upon inspection, we discovered the failure was due to corroded brake lines. The lines leaked in the right rear area, near the wheel. Investigating online, I discovered a huge recall of Subarus around the same year, make and model as my mom's. But according to Subaru of America and NHTSA, unfortunately, my mon's car is for some reason not covered by this recall. That seems like an oversight, because the lines are definitely corroded, and my mom lives in the same 'salt belt' area (western massachusetts) where the 600k+ other, covered, Subarus are. I know recall investigations take time, so this complaint probably won't help us mom will have to pay out of pocket to repair the lines, which will likely cost all of her limited monthly income from social security and jobs but if making this complaint helps others, it's well worth the effort. Thanks very much for your attention and assistance.

I received a notice from Subaru described as a service program wur-03. Therefore it is not a recall like the ecm and pcv valve issues. I was unable to make an appointment since I received the notice so close to the holiday. Unfortunately I was involved in a traffic accident before I was able to get the vehicle in for the service. The service is explained as an issue with the brake hoses where fluid seeps between the layers of the hoses. So, Subaru wants to replace all 4 of the brake hoses at no charge. I am an auto tech so I know that any internal breakdown of a brake hose interferes with the ability of the brake system performing properly. What happened during the accident in question is that the vehicle failed to stop in time causing my vehicle to strike the vehicle in front of me. There was sufficient space for the vehicle stop without striking the other vehicle. But when I pressed the brakes I heard a noise, almost like the abs pump over-pressurizing, the brake pedal vibrated and pushed back against my foot slightly as my vehicle slid into the back of the car in front of me. At the time of the accident the roads were dry and it was sunny about 50 degrees. In other words, absolutely no reason for my vehicle to slide.

I believe my vehicle needs added to the safety recall: wqk47. Nhtsa campaign: 14v311000. I own a 2005 Subaru Impreza rs. Driving down residential street I lost all brake pressure coming to a stop. Problem was from brake line had leak from corrosion. It's the same problem and exact spot described in the recall for wqk47. Yes, I live in the salt belt. This needs to be looked into more and as soon as possible. Definitely a safety issue. Thank you.

Road salt rusting out brake lines at junction right in font of right rear wheel. Vehicle lost breaking. Pedal went to the floor, had to pump the brakes and use hand brake to stop. This maybe like the other salt related brake line recalls for this model other years and other Subaru models same years.

As I was about to take my 17 year old son out for a driving lesson. The right rear brake line blew as we were leaving our driveway. Thankfully we were not going fast and had enough braking to stop at which point I took over and used the parking brake to get the vehicle back to our house. After further inspection I discovered the right rear break line corroded and leaking as it exits the internal frame of the vehicle just prior to a junction in front of the rear wheel. After doing some research and visiting the danbury Subaru service department I found out that many Subaru vehicles are being recalled for a similar reason. Unfortunately my '05 Impreza is not on the recall list even though the active recall describes my vehicles problem exactly. In fact this car was registered in vt it's whole life up until recently when I purchased it and registered it in CT. I believe this car should be included in the recall. A car that is 10 years old with only 86k miles should not have the brake lines breaking.
