2 Suspension problem of the 2005 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

The dealership is refusing to fix my car free of charge on a recall they confirmed would be able to do and now they are refusing to do it due to price and have made me wait two months for this to be the answer while also not giving me any sort of pay for the inconvenience of waiting for so long, while also having already ordering the parts and they have decided to decline my recall repair.

3 Suspension problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/10/2023

To whom this may concern, my name is tammi ison. I purchased my 2014 Subaru on December 13th, 2013. My car has 57,000 miles on it. It has loss of acceleration when entering a freeway. I push on the gas pedal harder and harder to try to get my car to obtain 60 mph. The car does not respond until minutes go by. The cvt transmission was replaced in June 2022. The car has not performed any better after the transmission replacement. I am the original owner of my car. Initially, my car performed very well, quick response to acceleration for the first 35-40 thousand miles. Then, it began to have lack of acceleration. The transmission was replaced by Subaru of America in June 2022 at around 48,000 miles. I brought my car to elk grove Subaru approximately 4 times since the transmission was replaced, each time I paid for their hourly diagnostic fee; between $165. 00 to $195. 00. Each time the service advisor said they found nothing wrong with my car. I took my car to two independent mechanics (one of them is a transmission repair shop) they each stated in writing that my transmission is slipping and has loss of power. I feel unsafe driving my car on the street as if shakes, shudders and jerks. I do not want to be a statistic in an accident on the freeway due to the lack of power trying to obtain speed while entering freeway and trying to keep my vehicle speed at a speed of barely 60 mph. My vehicle is still within the extended cvt warranty. I feel that the Subaru dealership is purposely avoiding acknowledgement of the failing transmission. Subaru is a big corporation. Many Subaru owners believe there needs to be an actual recall on their Subaru cvt transmissions. I do not feel safe driving my car. With 57,000 miles on a vehicle that's a potential safety hazard, Subaru needs to take more responsibility for their vehicles as people's lives are much more precious than their profit margins. Sincerely, tammi ison.

4 Suspension problem of the 2019 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/25/2023

The front suspension has been broken since I purchased the vehicle with 50,000 miles on it. This has always been a safety concern for this vehicle yet I see no recalls for it. This puts my safety at risk as there is a metal clunking sound when turning the wheel and the tire rod can break from the faulty parts used for the vehicle. The vehicle’s front suspension was checked by a car repair company that was changing my brake pads at the time and saw that there was a dire issue with the vehicle that could put my life at risk. I have not had any car accidents or any other issues that could have caused this, meaning it is faulty manufacturing on Subaru’s part. There are no warning lights for the suspension, there is no way to know if you have a suspension issue unless you get the vehicle checked, or in my case can hear metal clunking sounds as the wheel is moved left or right while turning. This issue has been seen by many other owners of the same vehicle make, model and year but there has been no effort to fix this safety issue.

7 Suspension problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/16/2021

The contact owns a 2002 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while reversing, the vehicle felt as if there was a flat tire on the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the front driver's side tire was about to detach. Additionally, the driver’s side front lower control arm was fractured. Prior to the failure, the contact had driven over a railroad track and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle had previously been serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 11v464000 (suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

8 Suspension problem of the 2005 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/02/2021

The contact owns a 2005 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated while her son was driving and approaching a stop sign, he heard an abnormal noise which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to her residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 11v464000 (suspension). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and was informed the recall was completed by the previous owner on 12/10/2011. The failure mileage was approximately 199,000.

9 Suspension problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/13/2021

The passenger side lower control arm failed due to corrosion. There was a previous recall to address this issue with an anti corrosion coating, but it did not prevent the control arm from corroding and failing. I had this addressed at the dealer, and they mentioned the issue was addressed. Recall NHTSA campaign number: 11v464000.

10 Suspension problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/10/2021

The passenger side lower control arm was rusting out without my knowledge and while driving, a part of it broke in half which caused my front passenger side while to turn the wrong way and ripped apart the cv axle causing me to swerve to the left and promptly stopping the vehicle causing cars behind me to swerve out of the way. Thankfully, I was in the far left lane which avoided me smashing into another car. After research, I found a recall that included my car's make, model, year, and VIN range but was not applied to my car due to it not being registered in a "salt state". Had this car been treated in the first place like other same model cars were, it would not have had this issue. The car was purchased and has been in the northern virginia area for its whole life. Virginia is not a salt state, however, this car has been in and out of wv, MD, PA & DC which are all salt states. This car was originally purchased in alexandria, va which borders washington DC. The NHTSA campaign number 11v464000 (Subaru’s safety recall number wvx-34). I reached out to Subaru dealerships in my area which helped me open a case with Subaru of America. My case representative said that Subaru of America is not authorized to add vehicles to a recall and that only the NHTSA can do that. I emailed the NHTSA who then recommended that I submit a formal complaint with the NHTSA.

17 Suspension problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/31/2018

We were broadsided (t-boned) in an intersection with traffic lights. We were eastbound going 25mph & had just left home. Two blocks from my home as I proceeded through the green light and bam she hit my driver side. Recessing my front tire 3 or more inches in towards my engine. She was traveling southbound on the intersecting road. She must have been traveling 25 mph or more because damage continued all the way down the driver side (both doors) finishing on my rear tire where it bent it inwards as if it was a steering tire making a turn. The rear tire has a large gash in the side wall. The following where my wife's injuries as she was driving: acute cervical myofascial strain, cervical strain, closed head injury, dysarthria, elbow contusion, headache, muscle tension headache, post concussion syndrome, and shoulder contusion. She received all these injuries because the side impact airbags did not deploy which has to be a major manufacturing flaw of some type. Please explain to me why this happened. The insurance adjuster has totaled my wife's car. It is a 2012 Subaru Impreza premium. I have included some documents/photos.

18 Suspension problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/22/2018

On March 22, 2018, my 2017 Subaru Impreza sport wagon, with approximately 10,000 miles experienced a catastrophic failure of the rear suspension components traveling at 8 miles per hour. I was proceeding through a green light making a right. 3/4 of the way thru the turn I felt a violent jarring of my car on the left side and the driver's side curtain airbag slammed the left side of my upper body neck and head. I saw that my direction of travel did not change I started to pull off to the side of the road and apply the brakes. Had no brakes. A woman pulled over and she said " no one hit you, your wheel just fell off. " police came and helped me out of my car and completed an accident report. We noticed 1/2 of my wheel was in the intersection and a police officer recovered it for me. Mitchell Subaru inspected the vehicle submitted a claim with Subaru of America (soa) stating catastrophic failure of the rear suspension components. Soa then conducted their own investigation of the incident. The soa representatives wrongly concluded that I was involved in a high speed, rear collision with another vehicle. They did not examine or remove any suspension components for further testing. Soa conclusions are completely inaccurate. The police officer is adamant that there was no other vehicle involved. Eyewitness on the scene stated that she watched the event unfold and that my wheel fell off. The adjuster from my insurance company concluded that a massive failure of the right rear wheel / suspension caused the accident, no other vehicle was involved. A factory trained Subaru technician with 20 years of experience stated that there was no damage that pointed to a collision and that the scuff marks noted by soa where caused by the rear tire slamming into the panel. Soa denies all responsibility for this devastating failure of their product.

19 Suspension problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 04/26/2017

While driving at about 30 mph, the car began to shake uncontrollably. Upon inspection of the front end I saw that the lower suspension arm had cracked.

20 Suspension problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Dealer claims to have properly performed a recall repair, but the problem persists I own a 2004 Subaru Impreza. There is a recall on the front suspension for a severe corrosion issue. I brought my car in to haddad Subaru for the recall service in 2011 I was recently informed by my mechanic (not dealer mechanic) that the suspension is dangerously corroded and it "does not look like the recall was performed on this car. " I had this opinion confirmed a second mechanic. I raised this issue with haddad Subaru. They confirm the suspension is dangerously corroded, but will not replace it without authorization from Subaru I raised this issue with Subaru America and they state the recall was performed previously by hadad Subaru and they have no further responsibility to address the issue. I am dubious the recall repair was correctly performed by hadad Subaru in 2011 and that is why there is a problem now. It is a safety issue, so I have fixed it myself for nearly $1,000.

21 Suspension problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/30/2016

2002 Subaru with rotted sub frame with only 129,000 miles. Unsafe to drive.

22 Suspension problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

There is a problem with the suspension system on the Subaru Impreza. The inside of the tires will wear out prematurely and the outside of the tire will have plenty of tread on it. If the owner does not check the whole tire they will miss it and could result in a blown tire. Have heard of many Impreza owners having this problem. Talked to a service manager and they indicated that they have seen this problem also. It needs looked at before somebody get hurt or killed.

23 Suspension problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

Car unexpectedly accelerated in a remote area of a parking lot in a mall. Went over a curb, crossed a grassy area and struck a tree. Driver indicates that brakes were applied to no avail. Rear driving wheels were depressed into the ground after the car was stopped by the tree, indicating the possibility that the car was still accelerating after it was stopped by the tree.

24 Suspension problem of the 2011 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

I had leased my 2011 Impreza 2. 5i premium through metric Subaru in 2011, I extended my 36 month lease another 5 months in June 2014 through chase bank, and was now in the process of buying the car through chase. On October 11, 2014, after doing a courtesy multi-point inspection, mary, the service advisor, advised me to get out of this car and into a new car with an extended warranty, she told me that I needed rear brake pads for $265 and my struts were sweating and I would need to replace them for $1,100. I left there, my brakes were now squealing. . . Very odd. I called Subaru of America and spoke to kim, I asked if they be able to somehow extend my warranty to cover the cost of the rear struts, kim said that soa would cover the cost. Kim made arrangements with rich, the service manager at metric, and I scheduled an appointment for October 18, 2014 to have the rear struts and rear brake pads replaced. I left metric Subaru with a vibration in my seat and on the floor, and a bounciness/bumpiness in my seat, the belts, engine and exhaust seems to vibrate and sound much louder. One week later, north coast Subaru tells me I now need front brakes and I have a bend in the rim of the front left side and my tire is ripped on the front right side, and I need my front wheels balanced. The price tag for this $550. Two weeks later, competition Subaru recommends a brake and steering fluid flush and an oil change, because my fluids may be contaiminated. Metric Subaru topped off my fluids on October 11? other than that, they tell me my car is fine. But it's not! grand prix Subaru also tells me, "your car is fine. " I have kept kim well informed, all she say is "I am sorry you are having so many issues with your car". Subaru is destroying my car and blackballing me from all of the dealerships. There is another bakeline recall coming up. . . Where can I find an honest Subaru dealership?.

26 Suspension problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I sideswiped a parked car and the momentum caused my car to flip over and land on its roof. Have not heard from the adjuster but it is obvious the car is "totaled". Writing to you to let you know that I also wrote to Subaru to advise them that I think that the airbags should have deployed but none of them did. The accident occurred in union, n. J.

28 Suspension problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

When I took out the underneath plastic cover below the engine for cleaning purposes, I saw severe rust on the" sub-frame" where both lower arms are attach to it. I went to the Subaru dealer for inspection on Nov. 9, 2013. They told me that, it is not in the recall list, so I will need to pay for the costly repairs . When I ask one of the associates if it safe to drive,he said no, it is not safe to drive and also if collision occurs. They scheduled my car for free estimates on Nov. 11,2013. No accident this time. I just want to drive my car safe. Please help me,thanks.

29 Suspension problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The contact owns a 2002 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 5 mph, the steering wheel became uncontrollable. Upon inspection, it was found that the driver's side front wheel was abnormally angled inward. Failure Date: 09/29/2013

Driving. Hit a bump as I was attempting to take an exit and hit a pot hole which bent my rims and depleted the air in the tires.

31 Suspension problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

There was observed rust on a small section of the rear quarter undercarriage of the car. Work was begun on July, 4 2013 to treat what was thought to be surface rust with por-15 rust inhibitor. When the car was on the lift and work began, it was observed that this small section on both the right and left side of the car was inadequacy protected by factory undercoating. This section was where support arms for both left and right rear wheels attach to the chassis. This section is rusted through and is showing signs of fatigue and cracking. The chassis attachment point front braces for the rear differential is fully rusted through. This area of the chassis shows no sign of damage, or abuse which would lead to rusting. The rest of the undercarriage is either rust free, or shows limited surface rust. The body panels of the car are rust free. In short, lack of proper rust treatment of key structural areas of the car, have resulted in severe corrosion, which has rendered the car unsafe in my (the owner's) opinion, as well as the opinion of the mechanic assisting in the inspection. I welcome any inspections by Subaru of America or the NHTSA.

32 Suspension problem of the 2007 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/06/2012

I was at the dealership having a recall done for my front suspension a frames. (wvx34) and was told that the vehicle needed more extensive repairs as parts were corroded and could not be changed without being damaged. I was told Subaru had refused to agree the repairs until their dpsm had seen the vehicle, he would be at the dealer in the next 4 weeks. I contacted the dealer on the 5th December to be told the rep would be in until the 18th December (I am out of the country then). I contacted Subaru as I was disappointed with the service and the contacted the dealer and called me back on the 6th. I was told that the vehicle was dangerous and that the repairs were $5,000 worth and that I would have to pay as they had corrosion and that this wasn't part of the recall and the dpsm date was still the 18th. I would assume that if the a frames wee damaged due to corrosion and that the same corrosion had damaged other parts of the suspension then this would not be my liability. I am driving a dangerous vehicle (says the dealer to Subaru but not me) and Subaru not only don't care enough to inspect the vehicle as a matter of urgency but do not want to repair the vehicle. So the complaint is that the recall (wvx34) is just for a frames and the actual corrosion damage is much more extensive.

33 Suspension problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/17/2011

When driven on dry pavement the car behaves normally. However, when the car is driven on hard packed snow or wet pavement the rear end of the car wobbles violently from side to side, making it highly unstable. This problem occurs at relatively slow speeds (below 50 mph). This problem increases when the car is subject to loads such as additional passengers or cargo. Similar complaints have referred to the problem as "ghost walking".
