Suspension Problems of Subaru Impreza - part 2

Driving. Hit a bump as I was attempting to take an exit and hit a pot hole which bent my rims and depleted the air in the tires.

There was observed rust on a small section of the rear quarter undercarriage of the car. Work was begun on July, 4 2013 to treat what was thought to be surface rust with por-15 rust inhibitor. When the car was on the lift and work began, it was observed that this small section on both the right and left side of the car was inadequacy protected by factory undercoating. This section was where support arms for both left and right rear wheels attach to the chassis. This section is rusted through and is showing signs of fatigue and cracking. The chassis attachment point front braces for the rear differential is fully rusted through. This area of the chassis shows no sign of damage, or abuse which would lead to rusting. The rest of the undercarriage is either rust free, or shows limited surface rust. The body panels of the car are rust free. In short, lack of proper rust treatment of key structural areas of the car, have resulted in severe corrosion, which has rendered the car unsafe in my (the owner's) opinion, as well as the opinion of the mechanic assisting in the inspection. I welcome any inspections by Subaru of America or the NHTSA.

I was at the dealership having a recall done for my front suspension a frames. (wvx34) and was told that the vehicle needed more extensive repairs as parts were corroded and could not be changed without being damaged. I was told Subaru had refused to agree the repairs until their dpsm had seen the vehicle, he would be at the dealer in the next 4 weeks. I contacted the dealer on the 5th December to be told the rep would be in until the 18th December (I am out of the country then). I contacted Subaru as I was disappointed with the service and the contacted the dealer and called me back on the 6th. I was told that the vehicle was dangerous and that the repairs were $5,000 worth and that I would have to pay as they had corrosion and that this wasn't part of the recall and the dpsm date was still the 18th. I would assume that if the a frames wee damaged due to corrosion and that the same corrosion had damaged other parts of the suspension then this would not be my liability. I am driving a dangerous vehicle (says the dealer to Subaru but not me) and Subaru not only don't care enough to inspect the vehicle as a matter of urgency but do not want to repair the vehicle. So the complaint is that the recall (wvx34) is just for a frames and the actual corrosion damage is much more extensive.

When driven on dry pavement the car behaves normally. However, when the car is driven on hard packed snow or wet pavement the rear end of the car wobbles violently from side to side, making it highly unstable. This problem occurs at relatively slow speeds (below 50 mph). This problem increases when the car is subject to loads such as additional passengers or cargo. Similar complaints have referred to the problem as "ghost walking".

The contact owns a 2005 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while stopped, the read end of the vehicle was sitting much lower than the front end. The contact also stated that a rattling noise was heard coming from the rear while driving at low speeds. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test, but the contact stated that the rear struts may be causing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

The contact owns a 2004 Subaru Impreza. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v323000 (air bags) and 11v464000 (suspension) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The dealer informed the contact that NHTSA campaign number: 11v464000 (suspension) could not be completed due to excessive corrosion. The approximate failure mileage was 191,000. Parts distributions disconnect.

Takata inflators. . . Not sure I am in the right place but we live in missouri and bought a car in tennesse and it will not pass inspection in missouri. So had a mechanical shop start fixing it and the more he got involved the more was wrong with it. Right now it will cost us over 5000 to fix and we bought it for 7000. The shop refuses to do anything about it and says it is not its responsibility. We have pictures of parts that were put on wrong which damaged other parts. They said they bought it an auction and it was not their fault. Sorry if I am in the wrong place if I am could you please send me who I should contact. There other things wrong but could only check 3 items. Thank you.

Vehicle's abs controller went bad, abs was getting activated ever in a dry non slip condition, contacted dealer, and they replaced the abs controller. Reported problem about engine vibration at idle speed, dealer refuses to accept it, compared with a new vehicle at dealer's stock and the vibration in my vehicle was distinguishable. Still dealer refuses to accept it. Contacted 1-800-subaru3 and they said that they woul dget in touch with the dealership and see whats going on.
