37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/03/2023

Excessive silicone rtv at the oil pan is making its way into the oil pan and going up into the oil pickup and is starving the motor of oil. Could be very dangerous if it happens on the road and it immediately needs to be looked at by Subaru.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

The direct injection engine causes valves to become coated in carbon build-up, unlike indirect injections which constantly clean the valves. This issue then results in the sudden loss of power and engine stalls (often when attempting to accelerate from low speeds) which are extremely dangerous when attempting to merge or turn in traffic. Subaru has not addressed the issue but based on online searches it appears to be a major issue for all 2. 0l direct injection engines.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 10/01/2022

Started having issue with the engine making loud rattle noises and oil pressure was not consistent. Upon further investigating I removed the oil pan and removed the oil pickup. The oil pickup screen was full of rtv sealant causing the oil pickup to struggle with maintaining proper oil pressure and flow to the engine. I ended up having to change my timing belt tensioners because one went bad. Probably because of low oil pressure or rtv was sucked into oil galleys and caused it to malfunction. My car sounds a little better now but I believe I also have a light amount of rod knocking. If I kept driving the car, this could have led to catastrophic engine damage and caused my car to stall while traveling on public roads. I later researched if others have seen this issue and it appear to be a common issue in with Subaru and Toyota vehicles using the fa20dit engine. These engine already have small enough rods, they don't need to be robbed of oil and cause engine damage because the manufacturer applied too much rtv sealant in assembly. There needs to be a recall on this.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/13/2022

At random, the vehicle will shut down for a second and start back up without pressing the start button. Usually occurs while using carplay but has occurred without using the stereo. Will happen back to back and cause the steering wheel to lock up at highway speeds, taking control of the vehicle away from me (driver). Steering wheel has locked up several times when the car shuts off while driving. Vehicle was taken to dealership for diagnostics and they were unable to pinpoint an issue.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/30/2022

The vehicle seems to randomly die and bog out then all of the lights appear on the dash, I myself had to pay out of pocket for a new battery because autonation Subaru arapahoe in colorado decided not to check it like I had asked and after getting my car back the issue was still there which is why I replaced it today. Not only this but they sold me a highly modified vehicle without disclosing any of that info to me in the sale process.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 10/05/2021

I first noticed the car engine began making a loud ticking sound and significantly lost power as I exited the freeway heading toward my home after work. After towing the vehicle to the Subaru dealership, they tore apart the engine and found a connecting rod bearing had failed. It had slid out between the rod and crankshaft and shattered in the oil system sending shards of metal into the engine and all components that the oil touches. Every component that oil touches needed to be replaced. Prior to this problem, maintenance and oil changes were performed according to Subaru's specifications. Had the engine completely failed on the freeway during my commute home (during rush hour traffic) I could have caused an accident and possibly hurt myself and others. Subaru inspected and kept the components that were faulty though they never accepted responsibility for the failure of the components. There was absolutely no indication nor warning signal prior to the failure of the connecting rod bearing. Subaru blamed me for the component failure saying the vehicle was not properly maintained though they never asked me for proof of maintenance. I had to pay $7868 to repair the car to it's original mechanical state.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 02/10/2021

I own a 2015 wrx limited cvt. When I go to my car to go to work and I start it, the car sputters. I've only noticed this on cold starts only, once the car is warmed up it's fine. For some reason though when the car is sputtering on start ups it will trip my cel and basically put the car into get home mode, but it only seems to trigger the cel when it wants to. The car will always sputter on start up but sometimes the cel will come on and I can't use the drive modes and sometimes it won't come on. No matter what I do I can't get the car to stop sputtering. I've cleaned pretty much every sensor I could and nothing worked. I scanned the obd2 port and got p0300 for random misfire, which tells me absolutely nothing.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

The engine blew up around 75k miles, it had blown a rod barring even though the car had been maintained. The clutch prematurly went out causing me to have to replace everything but the flywheel at under 75k miles. The clockspring is bad in the car affecting the horn and air bags. Having to get that replaced as well. The car is currently at a dealership getting everything resolved other than the clutch as thats already been replaced. My safely and others safely were at risk as if the clutch went out while driving, my horn would not work, my airbag light was on flashing and possibly wouldn't deploy in an accident and the engine blowing up due to a thrown rod barring put me at risk as it was on the freeway this happened. You can get all this info on mileage and what has been replaced. This has cost me thousands upon thousands of dollars to fix in the car when none of it should of happened.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 10/08/2019

Decided to get my spark plugs replaced, and got a compression test done while that service was done for convenience. Compression came out low on one side of my fa20dit engine. With more research, because the engine is direct injected, there is obvious build up on the intake valves, causing bad air flow. This is not a wear and tear issue.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

Vehicle had a brand new short block with approximately 6,000 miles on it, and spun a bearing.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 05/09/2019

"takata recall" took my car to a local shop because it was lacking power and had low mpg readings. Found a boost leak in the top inter-cooler and expressed that all the 2016 wrx that come in this happens quite often. Forums and online posts verified this problem, the car is a 2016 so its fairly new this shouldn't be happening.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

The secondary air injection pump failed to turn off and nearly caught fire. Subaru has recalled this part and the related relay switch for 2008-14 imprezas, but this problem also exists with 2006 imprezas. My mechanic says this is very common failure point for my model.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 11/11/2018

Front end collision vs deer on interstate at approximately 75 mph. 4-5 minutes after the accident the engine caught on fire. The car is a total loss. No one was injured. We all were out of the car at the time the fire started.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/16/2018

I have had the car multiple times idle hard then die both when stopped at stoplights and when coming to a stop. This is the cvt not the manual and I have contacted the dealer the first time it happened and they said "this is normal operation" which I don't think the car dying when I come to a stop is "normal operation".

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

Clutch on manual transmission has burned out twice in 13000 miles. Dealer blames driver and is not looking hard for other causes. We are 100% positive this is not caused by driver error. Have been stranded on highway twice in less than a year.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 05/30/2018

This issue occurs on acceleration , most noticeable when merging onto freeway from on ramp 1/2 throttle , the vehicle starts to accelerate normal then hits around 4200 rpm and the boost gauge goes nuts fluctuating up and down and the vehicle looses power , hesitates , surges ( like a flat spot ) then finally gets a little higher in rpm and it will pick up again through the rest of rpm gauge , most noticeable in lower gears ( mines a 6 speed manual , I have taken the car to dealer on 5/30/18 with 1380 miles on the odometer , huffines Subaru denton texas , tony the service manager drove my car and duplicated the complaint , he then proceeded to get another new wrx off the lot similar to mine and again duplicated the complaint ( so this is a known issue ) the dealer claims its just a design in the car , its very unsafe as you think you will get up to speed and then it hesitates which could cause an accident , the dealer did say they would open a case with Subaru techline which they did not , so I called Subaru customer service and filed a complaint , they call back 2 days later and tell me we spoke to dealer nothing we can do , so I proceeded to do an internet search and found numerous people complaining about the same issue on 17-18 wrx models , I currently have 2006 miles on the car and its still doing this , not sure if its a drive by wire , throttle map issue or a flaw in the factory tuning causing this but it needs to to be addressed and fixed , vehicle gives false sense of security on accelleration .

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

Multiple Subaru's with turbo engines are experiencing the p2441 cel code which is an issue with secondary air valves being stuck. This is part of the emissions system and not powertrain so warranty doesnt cover beyond a certain timeframe. This issue has also been occuring over the past decade, with expensive cost to fix >$1200 for a valve repair. It appears even with proper maintenance the failure of this part is unpredictable. Subaru of America refuses to acknowledge the frequency of this failure.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/09/2016

Fuel rail on 2002 wrx is leaking heavily on the engine. This is a high fire hazard as well as noxious for passengers in the car as it smells heavily of fuel. Since I live in washington state Subaru of America has not honored the recall they've put in other states for this exact issue. Subaru has denied warranty repair due to the extended warranty expiring for this issue in 2013. I was never notified of this issue. I am the original owner of this car and have taken it in for every other recall issue that I've been notified of. This is reckless and dangerous. The local repair shop has said they don't think it is correct to charge me for labor and parts that should be covered under warranty by Subaru and have directed me to the dealership. The dealership asked me to get authorization from Subaru, which was denied. This is a safety issue that should be covered under warranty for the life of the car. It is a bone stock car with no aftermarkets parts or enhancements.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

Vehicle was parked, car off. Vehicle owner in gym working out when an employee alerted him he had smoke coming out from underhood. Owner went out and found flames coming out of hood scoop. Opened hood and found what appeared to be secondary air pump on fire. Extinguished with fire extinguisher. Towed car to shop and initial inspection appears that the plastic secondary air pump caught fire and was starting to burn and do damage to surrounding underhood components. Vehicle currently in shop (Smart service 206-417-0880) having damage parts replaced. It appears that if this fire was not extinguished it would have burned the vehicle to the ground and anything surrounding it. More pictures are availble by calling shop listed above as well as all old parts will be saved for inspection if needed.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

Vehicle was being driven on a public road at 30 mph. Engine oil pressure light came on so vehicle was parked in a business parking lot to check oil level. Oil level was full. Owner checked on internet for possible causes of this symptom and discovered numerous references to a broken oil pick up tube. Vehicle was towed to an independent shop for evaluation. Shop informed owner upon removal of oil pan that aluminum shavings were discovered in the oil and that indeed the oil pick up tube was broken. Shop informed owner that this is a common problem seen on certain model years of Subaru vehicles. Failure of this part causes oil starvation and catastrophic motor damage requiring rebuild or replacement of short block and other related inspections and cleanings of parts through which oil flows. Part in question is not a normal wear and tear part. Aftermarket manufacturers such as killerbee have engineered a better product and conducted independent investigation of issue with oem part and explain that the brazing process used to join the bracket and the tube in fact weaken the tube. In addition, the flux used during brazing is not properly cleaned on some parts which leads the manufacturer to believe this is a quality issue that Subaru has overlooked. Owner contact Subaru requesting assistance with repair costs and was denied with the explanation that vehicle is out of warranty. Cost to replace short block with labor is $6500. Owner has experience as an automotive technician and understands the difference between failure due to owner negligence and failure due to a non wear and tear part that is not in Subaru regular service procedures. Failure of part at a higher rate of speed can cause severe engine damage and a possible unsafe condition in which the motor can lock up and cause vehicle to come to a sudden stop. Numerous owners have reported similar issues.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

My clutch started squeaking for a month and half. When the squeaking stopped, it occurred to me that the squeaking stopped only because the whole firewall had broken. The car is supposed to be fixed tomorrow, and I am out of warranty for my 2008 sti. I am writing to you because this is a major safety issue, which includes the clutch and the braking and the transmission. The Subaru dealership will not fix it for me and has referred me to a collision shop but I am now being forced to pay for these repairs out-of-pocket.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I bought my Subaru in February of 2013 with approx 75000 miles on the odo. I believe the defect had already been there when I bought it and I hadn't noticed it until it got slightly worse. The brake pedal and the clutch flexes when I press either of them. Pressing the clutch will move the brake pedal in the down position approx. 1/3 of an inch same with the brake pedal. The welds connecting the pedal bracket to the firewall are not welded correctly. It needs to be reinforced by something else to assure me that the clutch and the brake pedal will not move whilst driving. It scares me to drive my vehicle to and from work because of the possibility that these welds will break. Which will make me unable to press either pedal and I could lose my ability to clutch and brake. Which could result in me going 70mph possibly (interstate speeds) into another car or obstacle. Or simply rear ending someone in traffic or rolling back into them being unable to brake. If this bracket breaks off of the bulkhead/firewall I will have no brakes or clutch then my car becomes a public safety issue. Someone or people could get hurt if this happens and it could.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 01/31/2012

Code p1410 secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open. This is a common error many 2006 and up Subaru Impreza Wrx owners are having. The emissions system is prone to fail due to carbon buildup or moisture and rust contaminating valves, leading to repairs costing $700 to $1500. This failure is common even with low mileage. Note these codes are also associated with this failure: 06/07 wrx: p0410 p0411 p0413 p0414 p0416 p0417 p0418 p2431 p2432 p2433 p2440 p2441 p2442 p2443 p2444 07 sti: p0410 p0411 p0413 p0414 p0418 p2431 p2432 p2433 p2441 p2444.
