36 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 01/04/2024

The driver side rear view when I started the car back in January of 2024 after car had been running for 30 seconds smoke and fire flames were seen coming through that rear view mirror immediately contacted Subaru of America and was called back with urgency and they fixed this issue but since then I haves a few other issues I believe relate to the wiring inside the vehicle and due to the wiring, which caused the fire. I have tried to contact Subaru of America and let them know this and have had no luck with any type of help with other repairs.

37 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

There is a recall for this issue in Subaru vehicles through 2018 but our 2019 Legacy has the same issue. The head unit very soon after purchase (brand new from dealer) started to delaminate and not respond to touchscreen interaction. Now it is so bad that it is as if the head unit is possessed. It changes radio and settings randomly, cycles the screen, makes random phone calls if a phone is connected, changes navigation (android auto) on its own and suddenly it's navigating you to mexico. . . Even if we aren't using the screen it is dangerously distracting because it is constantly glitching. We are out of warranty so the dealer wants us to pay for this repair on our own. We want to see the recall expanded to include 2019 and later model years. According to numerous reports online, I know we are not the only ones. We also have issues with this vehicle's battery draining unusually fast but that is not as critical an issue as this head unit problem.

38 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/28/2023

During regular use of the radio and head unit, at times the touch screen or controls, dials, buttons will be unresponsive. The android auto software tends to malfunction and will randomly disconnect and the audio will blast, full volume at the driver with the inability to control the volume other than to pull over and turn the vehicle off or manually power down the radio. This has happened on several occasions and with young children in the car, it can damage hearing, cause traumatic injury or if in motion the driver can become quickly surprised or distracted and jerk the steering wheel or react to the jump in sound level that could injury passengers, or other vehicles occupied that may be nearby. This seems to be an issue with the inability to control sound level between different modes. At times though, the car will start and the radio will be blank, or be unresponsive until the car is turned off and back on again.

39 Equipment problem of the 2024 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/27/2023

Apparently the wiring is made of soy based product causing nice to chew it. The power steering was compromise along with many electrical components , luckily I was not on the road when this happened the thought that I would be on the road frightens me. When I went to the dealer, Subaru of newton NJ, they said it wasn't their fault and they are charging my insurance for repairs. Subaru is causing potential fatal accidents by not addressing this issue, they are aware of the problem and willing to do nothing. My car has been in the shop since December 2023 please help. Thank you.

40 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/23/2023

I am a first time Subaru owner and I have an issue with the windshield. November 2023 had a large crack in the windshield and an actual piece of glass came into the car from the inside. I had the windshield replaced by gerald Subaru of north aurora illinois. In January of 2024, as I was pulling out of my garage, I noticed another crack in the new windshield. I had not driven the car in a week and was actually out of state for 2 weeks in December. My car is garaged and do not recall anything hitting the windshield. Went back to gerald Subaru and they found an extremely small chip up near the top of the windshield. I have reached out to Subaru both by phone and by email and thus far there has been no response. I truly feel these are defective windshields.

41 Equipment problem of the 2020 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/15/2023

We recently purchased a used 2020 Subaru Legacy sedan with ~33,000 miles on it. It has a salvage title due to previous owner hitting a deer, (no air bag deployed, just minor body work) and it was professionally repaired to "like-new" condition. Last weekend, when starting the car, the check engine light and a bunch of other warning lights came on. An obdi scan showed a code of "p263a" indicating a problem with the thermo control valve. As a result of the defective tcv, several major functions of the vehicle were automatically disabled: adaptive cruise control, eyesight system with lane keeping, automatic braking, as well as all cabin heating, windshield defrost function, and the engine temperature gauge. Without these systems properly working, the drivability of the vehicle is greatly impaired, especially in a minnesota winter without a functional windshield defrost and engine temperature monitoring gauge. When taking the car into the local Subaru dealership for full diagnostics, they confirmed that indeed the tcv was bad, and quoted me a cost of $1135 to replace it. They claimed that since the car has a salvage title, Subaru's warranty will not cover any part of this repair. However, there is a known wide-spread failure of this thermo control valve in the 2019-2021 cars as listed in Subaru technical bulletin 09-20-21 which clearly states that there is a redesigned tcv that replaces the defective earlier part and fixes the earlier design flaws of the one installed in 2019-2021 vehicles. I spoke with the Subaru of America client advocacy representative, and he was adamant that the salvage title negates any responsibility for Subaru to fix this know defectively designed thermo control valve. My thinking is that the defective tcv is both a drivability and a safety issue, and due to the wide-spread early life failure of this part, Subaru should be compelled by a recall to replace the defective car in all customer cars. All adas is affected by a bad tcv.

42 Equipment problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

This car stalls out and just stops when you are driving due to a failing torque converter which Subaru knew about and did not do a recall on. They did a service bulletin with an extended warranty but when I brought my car while it still was under the extended warranty period to the dealer no one advised me of this so now it is out of the extended warranty period and they will not help me. My son almost got killed when this happened this needs to addressed by Subaru because we cannot drive this car as it is unsafe.

43 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 11/24/2023

The "infotainment system" screen is delaminating. I can not see my surroundings when in reverse. The system is paired with my mobile telephone and randomly calls persons in my contact list without my requesting it do so. The radio can not be turned off and it consistently makes noises as if it is attempting to scan different radio stations. These defects first appeared at 34,000 miles, well below the 36,000 mile warranty period.

44 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

Parasitic battery drain from the dcm that is known by Subaru but proper long term repair is not offered easily. Please force them to do the right thing!! this should be a covered fix offered to every affected vehicle.

45 Equipment problem of the 2017 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 10/23/2023

The key constantly stuck in ignition. Sometimes 10 minutes to get out. Then won’t start ignition key broke off in ignition … your stuck with this situation that Subaru is pretending to not know about.

46 Equipment problem of the 2017 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 10/10/2023

The hood latch failed, and hood came up at 70 mph on interstate. This has caused extensive damage.

47 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/12/2023

Driving on the interstate and the a hole exploded in the sunroof. Sounded like a gunshot. Nothing hit it to cause the damage.

48 Equipment problem of the 2013 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/11/2023

While driving the vehicle, there was a loud "clunk" from the front-end. After that, during turns there is a lot of scraping, banging and popping noises. During braking, the car veers toward the right. The car is very unstable going around bends and on/off ramps. I took it to a mechanic and was told the front subframe on my vehicle has rusted out to the point he can put his fist through some of the holes. He contacted a dealer to get a price on a replacement and was told they have been waiting over 9 months for that particular part and there is currently no eta for it. I contacted several other dealers and was told the part has been on backorder since January or February with no eta. All the dealers I talked with said they are waiting on 10 or more. Based on that information, this seems to be a common problem with this model that may warrant some investigation and/or action to prompt Subaru to make the part available and possibly replace them via a recall. I really like this car and don't want to lose it over a $600 part not being available.

49 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/30/2023

Both wheel bearings have gone out in the rear since I bought this vehicle at 56,000 miles last year. I have never heard of bearings going out this soon! I have spent 800$ replacing bearings and I am questioning the build on the 2018 Legacy now.

50 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/20/2023

Stereo head unit has white spots all over screen. Radio skips stations, calls numbers on my phone when connected to the car, touch screen does not work properly not allowing to turn it on or off or stop random skipping of stations or activity. Unable to see back camera when in reverse due to multiple spots on touchscreen.

51 Equipment problem of the 2021 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

Without any reason a random issue came up. Special feature components lit up on dashboard. Everything but “check engine lit up and the car features were disabled. Disabled items were eye sight, lane assist, abd, electrical parking brake, hill assist, vehicle dynamics control. With all these lights on my power steering was also disabled. Took to dealer a year ago and all they did was “updated computer system. 3 months later the t started happening again but only intermittently but for past 3 days it’s been constant.

52 Equipment problem of the 2016 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/05/2023

I've own a 2016 Subaru Legacy limited 3. 6, for coming on 2 years. In the last 3 months I've had to replace my battery twice. The last being a red top battery costing $300+ and only lasted 2 days. The first incident that was most disruptive was, driving home in rush hour traffic when I lost all power, radio cut out, all lights on dash go out, my car begins to sputter and there is no power steering. Once traffic rolled to a stop it dies and wouldn't turn back over, couldn't pull my key from the ignition, roll the windows up, and once in park I couldn't change to neutral. It was very dangerous due to traffic, and I was stuck on a bridge that was a main arterial, with no emergency flashers. Had to have the city law enforcement call to get my car removed from the roadway. Had it towed to the dealership I purchased it from. The next day they told me my battery was dead and I needed a new one. Tested my alternator and that test good. Then again it died under the same symptoms as it did the first time. Leaving me stranded on a busy highway, at 10 at night. All of my symptoms were directly related to my a/c being on and sitting too long without driving, at idle or stop and go traffic and progrssively got to being a main battery drain. My key ittermediately wont pull from the ignition, steering wheel wont lock in place. My windows will randomly not roll up, but bounce down and stop halfway and lock temporarily in that position. I believe its all electrical problems or voltage issues. None the less. . . If there is no way to repair this, than it should be a recall. . . . . Because it's a serious problem with no solution and Subaru is fully aware of it.

53 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/05/2023

Infotainment system screen began bubbling. Then it started randomly selection icons by itself. Then it got to the point where it is unusable and constantly is making selections on its own. I can’t even make selections if I want to. Whole screen is effected. Subaru of America is aware and my dealer first denied knowing it was an issue but later admitted to me they have gotten several complaints of the same. Dealer ordered a replacement over a year ago and I have still not gotten a replacement because they keep telling me it is back ordered and that they put a rush on it. Still nothing in over a year. This problem also causes the battery to drain while parked. I had to put a brand new battery in and it still drains. A year or so after that, Subaru sent out a notice that they will reimburse for that issue. I don’t have any paperwork left from my replacement costs. Again, dealer denied knowing that the battery drains and later admitted they knew.

54 Equipment problem of the 2022 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Unknown. Seat belt warning lights will start beeping very loudly while on the road while seat belts are buckled. This is an extremely noisy distraction and frightens my passengers. Dealer changed one seat belt but problem remains.

55 Equipment problem of the 2016 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

Replaced battery but still all dash lights come on I lose power and it dies. I can jump start it and it stay but all lights stay on. New starter, new alternator, I just don't know what it is. Only code that comes up is p0420.

56 Equipment problem of the 2010 Subaru Legacy

57 Equipment problem of the 2019 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 05/09/2023

While at a red light, and with foot firmly on brake pedal, the car suddenly began to rev and lurched forward. All the dash indicator lights (brake, engine, lane departure, etc. ) lit up. I was able to keep the car from hitting the vehicle in front of me and managed to put the car in "park" until the light turned green, at which point I put the car back in "drive," pulled into usps parking lot, collected myself, then drove to my local mechanic (~. 25 miles). Braking to turn into mechanic's location the vehicle again revved and was difficult to slow, but I managed to do so, park, and left for them to examine. Later, and on local mechanic's advice, drove (without incident) to Subaru dealer in milford, nh to drop off for them to investigate amid recent trend in unanticipated acceleration problem and pending class action lawsuit.

58 Equipment problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 04/17/2023

On 04 /17/ 2023 warning, accelerated and would not stop after leaving a car wash from mister car wash on 4423 ne central Ave I stepped on my 2015 Subaru Legacy brakes several times, trying to stop the car but it wouldn't so I thought about hiting a pole to made it stop I was screaming I thought I wasn't gone make it, so I finally made a turn right on 49th ne central Ave and hit a pole so the car stopped right away and I had to call tow truck to take it to Subaru dealership but they are telling me the car is in good condtion nothing wrong with it but I'm scare to take it back also I have reported this to q police the day it happened.

59 Equipment problem of the 2002 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 04/10/2023

To whom it may concern. I’ve purchased a second hand vehicle from new jersey I live in California. It is 2002 Subaru outback h-6 3. 0 with 52,000 miles. Upon delivery I took it to orange coast Subaru for general inspection when it was brought to my attention that there’s an open recall from 2004 stating excessive corrosion in the rear sub frame. It applies on vehicles in cold wet states where new jersey is one of them. Service advisor assure me that all is fine and they marked it as resolved. Upon inspection when I received the car back to my horror the sub frame is corroded to the point of disintegration. I took it back in and I’ve reached out to Subaru of north America where they look into it and concluded that the factory warranty is expired, 5 years 60k miles and they will not fix the recall. Base on my research there’s no expiration on manufacture recall and I’m not sure why they will not take care of it . Please help me navigate this matter. 60 Equipment problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/15/2023

Front sub-frame rusted through. Local mechanic said unsafe to drive. Insurance will not cover claim because this is "prior issue" not accident related. Subaru dealership confirmed safety risk and will repair for >$3000.

61 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/05/2023

Sunroof spontaneously failed. Tempered glass shattered and sprayed into cabin.

62 Equipment problem of the 2020 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 02/28/2023

Windshield crack in lower part on passenger side for no apparent reason.

63 Equipment problem of the 2022 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/20/2022

Large crack in windshield on the driver's side while car was parked at work, further investigation found a tiny chip point of impact, Subaru is known to use specific, thinner glass due to eye sight technology. If a small chip can crack half the windshield what will a significant impact cause? I live in a rural area and have had some significant damage done on other vehicles by animals and such, not only do I not want to have to replace a windshield every few months or so- I don't want the next bird that flies into my windshield to come through it.

64 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 12/08/2022

The infotainment head unit system and screen with the backup camera is completely malfunctioning. There have been instances where the screen glitches out while backing up and I have almost been in a collision. The head unit makes constant random noises, and screen pop ups that cannot be turned off. This makes for highly distracted and unsafe driving as it makes it quite difficult for the car user to maintain sole focus and attention to the roadways and driving. The extreme glitchiness and phantom touches/noises are just as a distraction and safety concern as driving while using a cellphone which is against the law. The infotainment unit should be fully recalled, not just have a warranty extension. The Subaru dealership has inspected the head unit and declared the failure that was part of a now expired warranty extension. The failures came without warning; however the glitches have gotten more frequent and worse over time.

65 Equipment problem of the 2017 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 10/02/2022

Feb 2020 dead battery April 2020 dead battery April bought new battery 2020 April 2022 dead battery oct 2022 dead battery.

66 Equipment problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/18/2022

I was going down the hill in my development, I made it approximately 2-300ft at 7-10mph when suddenly there was a loud “bang”. I could not see anything, my airbags had deployed and blocked my field of vision. I ended up hitting an electrical pole. There was no need for the airbags to go off. I could have been killed. There is no airbag recall on my VIN number.

67 Equipment problem of the 2022 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/20/2022

I was sitting at a walmart parking lot around 6:50 am waiting for the store to open. I decided to sit in the back seat of my new 2022 Legacy and work on my laptop while sipping on my coffee. It is a beautiful 71 degrees in small-town georgia when I hear what I could describe as an ice cube going into a warm glass of water, followed by a "dragging" sound as if a tree branch was scratching my car; only I was near nothing, not even cars as the store hadn't yet opened. But I chose to park way from careless people who may ding my new car. It wasn't until I finished and came around to the driver's seat that I noticed what'd made the sounds. The windshield was cracked. No impact. The dealership tried to make it look like I was lying and Subaru advocacy refunded the $500 deductible "as a courtesy" (because I had to use my insurance). My car was around 4-5 months old.

68 Equipment problem of the 2017 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/13/2022

This vehicle has had two batteries replaced since it was bought in 5/2016. I believe is the same issue with the other newer models already in a lawsuit. I has left me stranded by failing to start without any warning, over four times because the car will charge work fine and then it died.

69 Equipment problem of the 2022 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/11/2022

The dcm/telematics unit has now failed twice in this vehicle, despite already being completely replaced a first time. All remote app controls fail. Starlink call connection buttons are unresponsive despite the car being in a clear, unobstructed coverage area. The only indications of failure are attempts to send remote commands via the app and the lack of a green led next to the starlink buttons. This presents a safety issue because the system is not presenting an obvious sign of failure and critical items like "automatic collision notification" and remote immobilization will fail by assumption due to the connection/electrical problems.

70 Equipment problem of the 2012 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

Please see odi#11486236 & request # 562681 “ part 1” I wrote complaining about a 2012 Subaru Legacy torque converter issue. It was “ out of warranty 7/31/22 or 100k miles. At the time it started stalling it was at 103k miles in August 2022! I did not feel comfortable driving it. On 10/19/22 my mechanic drove my car & it shuddered & stalled at intersections for him also. I did not feel comfortable driving it 25 miles to a Subaru dealer to have them check it, diagnose it & repair it. My mechanic replaced the torque converter as well as the appropriate fluids. It cost about $1500 for parts & labor. Since this is a faulty part installed prior to purchase I feel Subaru needs to recall all these vehicles affected. I emailed you multiple emails online multiple complaints about this faulty part which causes a dangerous situation stalling at lights & intersections requiring one to stop & start. I was almost broadsided a few times. Subaru should do the right thing and recall all vehicles involved & your agency should do the right thing & demand it for the safety of the public.
