The speedometer and odometer started working intermittently about four month ago. The dealer says the speedometer will have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $430+ (parts and labor). The vehicle is only 8years old with less than 110,000 miles. Several other consumers submitted identical complaints.

2 Instrument Panel problem of the 1996 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 11/28/1999

Pe99067, electrical system; while driving all lights on the instrument panel started blinking, there was a huge popping noise, and an electrical burning smell. After pulling onto the shoulder, driver opened the hood to find an electrical meltdown fuses and wires. Vehicle was towed to the dealership. Please provide any further information.
