On 2 occasions my battery went dead for no apparent reason . I brought it in to the dealership. The dealership suggested that I leave it for a complete diagnostic evaluation. They came back saying nothing was wrong. Someone sent me an article about a man who is suing Subaru for the exact problem I had.

Sometimes the battery goes dead for no reason. This has happened multiple times in the last 2 years, with the most recent event occurring today (may 10, 2021). It could occur after I haven't driven it for a day or in the midst of a road trip after I've stopped for lunch and it won't restart. I have replaced the battery 2 times since purchasing my car (used) in 2019.

The fourth battery has died since the car was purchased in 2015. It will not take a charge. The dealer has replaced with the same battery each time and said nothing about the car having any electrical issues.

I have a fairly new oem Subaru battery in my 2018 Outback. It continues to drain unexpectedly. I know about the tailgate problem. Also, I turn everything electrical (that's possible) off in the car when it's garaged. The battery often fails to start the car when it's unused for a few days even after previously driving long distances.
The car repeatedly drains the battery for no obvious reason, leaving us stranded with a vehicle that cannot even be jumped to start. The battery is so dead I can't even get the doors open. It has stranded me at home, and various times when I've been out doing errands. It's a safety issue when you're a single woman stranded somewhere in the dark. I've had to call Subaru service to jump the car once, have jumped it three times myself at home, once at the grocery store, and have had to place a totally dead battery on the charger at home six times. It was already taken in for repair twice to the dealer in san luis obispo, CA,and they "found nothing wrong". But, now it's completely and utterly dead in my driveway again, after just driving it on the freeway for two hours four days ago.

After 5000 miles my battery has been drained and is currently dead. I was told I must lock it every time I am not driving to ensure battery life is extended. Even with doing this battery is still dead after barely 5000 miles.

Battery dies. . Had new one installed this week, same problem. No recall? cant use car.
Had the car 18 months battery went dead; understand that this is some kind of national issue with Subaru batteries draining prematurely.
Three times in the last six months my battery died and required emergency roadside assistance. After the first time, the car only had about 5,000 miles on it, I called Subaru and they replaced the battery under warranty. Since then the new battery has died twice. Online searches recently have revealed wide spread problems with the Subaru Outback's electrical system resulting in repeated battery failure. At this time the only outcome from this has been the battery failure, but if there are electrical system problems I'm concerned that more serious problems, like a fire, could arise. Fortunately each time the battery died the car was in the garage at home. The car is driven regularly, at least once a week, for not less than thirty minutes, so I am concerned that there is, indeed, a problem with the electrical system causing the battery to not recharge, or creating a drain on the battery when the vehicle is idle.
Subaru dealer replaced dead battery 10/2020. Car parked for 20 days (no lights, etc were on during that time) and battery was dead. Dealer checked battery and electrical systems and claimed all was good. He did say that it is not uncommon for them to go dead in 10 to 14 days. This is the second time this occurred. The 1st time, the dealer replaced the battery (10/2020).
My 2020 Subaru Outback is less than one year old and has less than 10,000 miles. The battery has been dead two times in the past month. Both times the car was garaged and nothing was left on to drain the battery.
The contact owns a 2016 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that battery was replaced three times in the vehicle however, the battery failure persisted. The contact stated that a battery charger was carried in the vehicle because of the recurring failure. Colonial Subaru (89 newtown rd, danbury, CT 06810) was made aware of the failure and diagnosed the vehicle with an electrical short. The contact stated that she was made aware that there were two class action lawsuits for the battery failure from a news article. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,238.

Twice in the past 12 months my Subaru Outback has left me stranded with a dead battery. The first time I drove to the grocery and the battery was dead after I finished shopping. Second time I drove to church and the battery was dead upon leaving.
My original battery died earlier than it should have (~Dec 19/31k mi) about a year and a half after purchasing car) and was replaced under warranty. In the last 6 months, I've had repeated issues with my battery being dead and having to jump start the vehicle. Took it to the dealer and was informed they saw nothing wrong with it. Within 1 month (Dec 20) alone, I had to have the car jumpstarted 3 times. I had to buy my own jumper to deal with the problem. It doesn't die while on, it's just dead when I go to start it.
Battery repeatedly dies after very short periods of time, no lights left on or doors left open. Vehicle battery has died a total of 4 times in 7 months when left overnight.
Battery is dead. Car was parked in my garage and not used for several days. When I tried to start it on wed April 14, 2021 the battery was dead. No lights has been left on. All doors were closed when car not in use.
Almost new battery failed. Had replaced previous battery on sept 15, 2020 with interstate battery, and on Apr. 13, 2021 in the morning the battery was found discharged despite nothing being on in car overnight. The red terminal is corroded.
Battery failed and will not recharge. Had to replace it. Outback is only 27 months old. Failed after short trip to library. Had to have it jumped to get home.
Vehicle was purchased less than 5 months ago, has less than 1000 miles and the battery has died. Car is used regularly, as a family car, to run errands in our neighborghood. Battery does not hold a charge. It will charge with a battery tender, but will then drain quickly.
The battery keeps failing. It's my 4th battery change and I can feel that I will need to change the 4th one soon.
This vehicle is 5 years old. The first battery lasted 4 years. The second battery was dead in 10 months. Now we will try a third. In looking up other drivers comments, this is a known product problem. There is a technical bulletin out about this, but it doesn't do anything to fix the problem. There is also a know tire wearing problem. I have had to replace those, 3 times. I have 92000 miles. I have replaced them with michelin twice. Good for 60,000. Lucky to get 30,000 on them. Twice now because of the battery, I have been stranded. This last time, I was at my vacation home, only one other person in the area. Luckily they had jumper cables, and jumped the car and followed me to the auto store. The first time I missed work, and had to wait till my husband came home to give my car a jump. Both times, the car was sitting overnight.
Battery dead, no electrical function from car.
Battery drain. Purchased 2019 Subaru Outback in November 2018. In October 2020 (23 months) it failed to start after staying overnight at rest stop in middle of long drive. Checked by dealer after trip --"battery ok. No problems. " over next 5 months of infrequent short trips, Outback failed to start multiple times. Measured current drain when vehicle off was found to be within Subaru allowable (<70 milliamps) but only after 15-20 minutes after everything had been turned off. Current drain during the 15-20 minutes was as high as 2 amps. Any activity (e. G. , opening a door, setting alarm) re-initiated the 15-20 minutes of high current drain. Phoned dealer: only solution (within warranty period) was replacement with same oem battery. Decided to replace with more robust, non-Subaru battery, since my experience and reports of others indicated oem battery would be insufficient to handle amount of drain. Purchased optima red25 battery from auto parts store on 6 April 2021 for $199. 99. I believe that Subaru needs to correct the issue of current drain (preferably) and/or equip the Outback with an adequate battery with more reserve power. Since my original battery failed under warranty, I would also like to be reimbursed for my expense of $199. 99.
2015 Subaru Outback -and now on my 4th battery. One instance, I got stuck in a small town in nh and had to get a battery that was only 2 years old and battery guaranteed for 5 years. Didn't know I had to bring it back to the mechanic back home so I ended up paying for another battery. 8 months later battery died again. Subaru said to bring it in and they will check it out. It is not warranted and it could take 2 hrs to 10 and I would pay for labor. They need to pay and fix a very well known problem. It has happened to friends who own SUV,s, wagons and sedans. .
My Subaru Outback is less than 3y 9m after being purchased a brand new and it already got 5 (five !!!) new batteries replaced without being identified with any issues by Subaru technicians. The first time the battery died was when the car was only 7 month old on the original warranty. A new oem battery (#2) has been installed at the Subaru dealership. 14 months later this Subaru battery #2 is dead, replaced by a new aaa battery #3 that within two months was dead, extremely corroded. Once again I was forced to address the same issue, bringing the car to a dealership where a new oem Subaru battery #4 was installed and covered by a thick layer of petroleum jelly. The battery #4 has lasted only for 17 months. Thus a new Subaru oem battery #5 had to be installed. Every time I'm told the car has been checked, no issues have been found, though I had also reported that I kept adjusting the clock in my car every couple of weeks,it has been falling behind. It's hard to accept that Subaru technicians have not been able to diagnose the cause of the parasitic drain problem in my car. What is exactly going on with my Subaru Outback 2017 electrical system?too much frustration when I missed my working hours, medical appointments due to dealing with the car thatis not starting, as well as witnessing my car losing its value. All the documents are kept in a file, my notes are recorded.
The car will be driven normally and then when you go to start it the battery is dead. This has occurred after multiple years and multiple times the battery has been replaced multiple times. The dealer has refused to look for a problem since they say it is my fault. I have opened a case with Subaru in the past but now they have not responded to the latest email contact. Date below is date I last contacted Subaru.
Dead battery within first year of ownership, at 75,000 miles now and third battery has now failed. Unsafe.
Will not start with keyless ignition. First time 2018 when battery appeared dead and coukd not be jump started in our garage and coukd not unlock doors or emergency brake and could not be jumped, car towed and new battery installed. One week later same thing again dead battery in our garage and car tested by Subaru for more than a week and no cause determined. Third time April 1, 2021 battery dead after three short stops and driving less than 10 miles and radio could not be shut off at first. Tow truck driver said battery at almost full charge and duggrsted use key fob and press start and it worked.
My car battery failed in September then again in October. I wasn't quite sure what the issue was but it didn't seem to be back:back. Then at the end of February- 5 days in a row I had to have my battery jumped. Dealer saw it and claimed it was a dead battery and only needed charging. At the end of March (today), the car's battery failed again. I reported the issue to Subaru. They said they would do an analysis on the battery. A towing service came to jump my car. At all times, without a jump the car will not turnover. I also noticed- maybe related maybe not- the car's calculation for mileage is all over the place. Specifically, within 30 seconds it can go from 3 mpg, 55 mpg, 7 then several hundred; it makes no sense.
The car battery has died multiple times in the past three years. The battery was factory replaced in 2019 because of this issue and has since needed to be jumped at least 3 times. There is also corrosion on the new battery already. When the battery has died it's either been parked in our driveway or has left me stranded somewhere needing a jump when it wouldn't start.
After driving the car, parking, and turning the car off for a short time, the car will not start. The battery is dead and has to get jump started. Something drains the battery. This occurs randomly, bur has happened to me 3 times, twice at around 7,000 miles and once at 8,800 miles. After the second time it happened , the dealer looked at it and said the rear dome light was left on. While I never used the rear dome light, I accepted the explanation. However, with this latest occurrence , I am certain that no lights were left on. I will take the car to the dealership to see if they can determine the problem. I am concerned because I cannot depend on this car to start whenever I go to drive it.
Battery failed at 9,000 miles.
Electrical power failures Subaru Outback 2020 on 5 different occasions in the past 10 months our new 2020 Subaru Outback has failed to start and we have been stranded. There was no electrical power.
