36 Battery Dead problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/20/2021

Dead battery issues - if doors or liftgate is open for even short amounts of time the battery goes dead. Have had to had it jumped 6 or 7 times since we bought it 3 years ago. That leads to issues with liftgate and passenger windows, requiring deal resets. Issue started at less than 10,000 miles.

37 Battery Dead problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/18/2021

Battery drains after the car sits for a few days. I had the battery replaced last year, and had the new battery checked recently at the dealer. They (dealer) said it was fine and saw no parasitic drain. They told me I should drive the car every day to keep the battery charged, which I find to be very odd and extremely inconvenient. I also own a 2020 Subaru ascent and don't have to drive it every day to keep the battery healthy. The car sat for one week recently and the battery drained again. I jumped it yesterday it and drove it for 30 minutes and today the battery is dead again.

41 Battery Dead problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

Purchased a 2018 Subaru Outback 5/03/18. At 19,860 miles on 12/21/19 the battery died. I jumped it, got it to the dealership. They did whatever diagnostics on it, recharged it and had me pick it up. When I went to get it, it was dead in the dealership parking lot. They then put in new battery. I went back down to pick it up. On 3/15/21, only 13 months later, my new battery was once again dead. I had been in my driveway parked for a week or possibly less. I picked it up 3/17/21 after Subaru had to again replace the battery. Bottom line I was told by the dealership to carry jump cables because it will keep happening due to the electronics! it seems I can only upload 1 repair invoice so I uploaded the most recent battery replacement invoice. I have 2 others.

42 Battery Dead problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

Battery goes dead when don't drive it weekly. Purchased new from dealer in June 2020. Have had aaa out twice to jump the battery. Have been told by aaa and dealership to drive the car or start it and let it run for 30 minutes every couple of days to keep battery charged because electronics drain the battery. Car was in garage.

43 Battery Dead problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Battery continues to get drained of power for no apparent reason. I have had to get a jump start several times even after driving for 3 or more hours. When I took it to the dealership, I was told that the battery was fine, but needed to be charged. They explained that the reason for the dead battery was because the car was not started for 2 or more days. Less than a week after this visit to the dealership, the battery was dead again after a 4 hour drive.

44 Battery Dead problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/10/2021

Battery dies frequently without obvious cause, even after replacing battery sooner than expected. It happens after driving for 30 minutes, turning it off for a short period like 15-20 minutes, then trying to restart, as well as after sitting for 8-10 hours.

45 Battery Dead problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

I purchased this 2018 Outback in late November of 2020 with 27000 miles on it. After only driving it about 1500 miles the battery suddenly died (March 2021). Aaa jumped it but said it was dead. I replaced it immediately (went 1 mile down the road) and the shop said that it was dead as well. No warning at all. Was working fine, parked at a store, ten minutes later went to start it and there was nothing. I spent $170 getting a new battery/installation.

46 Battery Dead problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/07/2021

Battery has died 3 times in 4 years, battery replaced after it died the first time in 2018. New battery, only approx. 2 years old, died twice in 2 weeks. All three times the car would not start after I had the back hatch and/or doors open 20-30 minutes, sometimes while cleaning the interior. The third time the car would not start after having the back hatch open approx. 5 minutes after taking some items out of the back. All three times the car was off and in the garage.

47 Battery Dead problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/06/2021

Vehicle did not start due to dead battery. This vehicle has been returned to the dealership on three separate dates due to the same issue. On 12/14/20 the car would not start we charged the battery and got it to the dealership. They charged the battery and said they could not find anything wrong and we drove it home. On 1/18/21 we could not start the car we charged the battery and took it back to the dealership. They said they could not find anything wrong but for our peace of mind they replaced the battery sensor and kept the car for several days to start it and drive it around to try and recreate the issue. They could not recreate the problem. On 3/6/21 the car did not start and was towed to the dealership. The dealership inspected the battery and the battery failed the load test. Battery was replaced. We expressed concern that they were fixing the symptom and not the problem, we also discussed erratic behavior with the rear gate all three times these issues have occurred. The dealership then decided to replace the power rear gate ecu and latch & actuator rear gate. After researching this problem we have discovered this is an issue with the same model and year of Subaru vehicle as ours and Subaru has not done anything to address the actual problem. We are concerned that this issue will continue and we don't feel we can safely drive our car far from home because of its unreliability and potentially putting us in dangerous situations . The mileage on the car is 8800 and it is a 2019 model.

50 Battery Dead problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/03/2021

A new battery died after 7 months use. I replaced it. The newer one died in 5 days. I read there is a class action lawsuit about this model draining batteries prematurely. Each time, we went to use the vehicle, stationary, and found the battery completely dead.

51 Battery Dead problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

In four years and 18000 miles, I am now on my third battery as of today. I have read of recurrent issues with 2016 Outback battery failures. 58 Battery Dead problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

60 Battery Dead problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/13/2021

Car was purchased in June 2018. Peridically over the first two years of ownership the battery would die and the car would require a jump to start. Since the onset of the covid pandemic - with the car left unused (in a garage) for more extended periods - the battery dies frequently, each time requiring a jump to start. Now, if the car is not started at least once every 1-2 days the battery will be dead.

61 Battery Dead problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/11/2021

I purchased my 2020 Outback in may 2020. In February 2021, I had about 5400 miles on the car when the battery seemed to die. Admittedly the temperatures were cold and the car was outside for 48 hours without being driven. I was unable to successfully jumpstart the car when I attempted to do so one week later. The temperature that day was in the upper 20s. I tried again 3 days later when the temperature was about 40. I successfully jumpstarted it that day and I let it idle for 20 minutes. The next morning, it would not start again so I had to jumpstart it once again. This time I idled it for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon (it started without a jump in the afternoon). The next morning it once again required jumpstarting. I let it idle for 20 minutes in the morning and another 20 minutes in the afternoon (once again jumpstarting in the afternoon was not necessary). Finally, it started on its own the next morning and I drove it to the dealer who said everything with the battery and the electrical system was fine. There was no evidence of any electrical problem. I am not convinced about this in light of problems with 2017-2019 Outback battery failures.

Woke up this morning and the rear door was open and the car wouldn't start. This is the second time the battery failed for seemingly no reason and the 1st time the rear door was open. Car was parked and hadn't been started for a couple of days.

65 Battery Dead problem of the 2021 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/06/2021

I bought a new car in December 2020. One day in Jan 2021, I noticed that the battery had died. I jump started it and then in February 2021, I had to jumpstart it 3 times. At least the last instance, I was careful to check no interior lights were on, and it still happened. I went to the dealer and they replaced the battery. I hope that fixes it.

70 Battery Dead problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

My 2020 Subaru Outback is just over a year old and has just over 15,000 miles on it. In the last month, the battery has died 4 times causing me to be stranded. The cause of the battery dying is very minor electrical usage when the car is off, resulting in the car not starting.
