36 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

During night driving, with normal headlights on (not high beams), I am frequently flashed by high beams of oncoming vehicles, sometimes for long time intervals. One truck driver that I was following intentionally shined a bright light at his side view mirror which reflected onto my face, temporarily impairing my vision as I passed the truck. I have taken the car to the Subaru dealership and spoken to a Subaru customer relations representative and they both informed me that other owners of the vehicle have lodged the same complaint but unfortunately the vehicle does not have any mechanism to adjust either the height or brightness of the led headlights. This is a significant safety issue for both oncoming drivers, whose vision is impaired by my headlights and my vision which is impaired when they shine their high beams at me, making night driving less safe for both.

38 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2007 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/26/2021

All rear lights, rear hatch lock, brake lights all failed due to wiring going from the body to the hatch getting cut from the action of opening and closing the hatch door. This seems to be a pretty common thing with at least the 2005-2007 models years.

1. ) headlights. They are extremely bright to oncoming traffic and oncoming traffic is always flashing or beaming you with their high beams as they think your brights are on when they are not. This is dangerous. Also led lights do not put off enough heat and the headlamp body itself freezes over in cold rain or snowy conditions severely reducing your ability to see during low light situations. Wipers. The windshield wipers do not last. They should be silicone and they are rubber which is terrible for longevity.

41 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/30/2021

2019 Outback premium bought bought may 2019. When I bought the car and for at least 6 months or more the headlight produced nice white light and I could see the road clearly. During this period the car was driven before sunrise and no issues with light emission. Driving the car today on the same roads at same time in morning road visibility is extremely poor. After the first 6 months I only drove while sunlight was present. Last month I drove the car once at night and thought "strange, the lights look dark and the street is not very bright. " then two weeks later I took a trip and stayed at a place that had few street lights. The first night I drove at night I could barely see 20 feet in front of me. Even when I turned on the high beams I still could not see. I notice when I pull behind a car or my lights shine on a stop sign the light looks orange/brownish. I brought it to the dealer today and the said the battery was good and the light output was "legal". They said they put in a new bulb to compare and said the light output was essentially the same. So according to them there is nothing wrong and nothing to do. The covers on my lights appear to be clear and clean.

43 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

Car battery has failed no less than three times. Upon failure, car is completely inoperable. Used Subaru roadside assistance to jump the car. The battery has drained on more than one occasion. No inspections. No warnings or prior symptoms before the dead battery. Available for inspection upon request.

44 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/08/2021

In the first year of ownership of my 2020 Subaru Outback, I have experienced many glitches in the operation of the electronica safety devices. The latest has been returning to the car and finding the battery fully discharged despite nothing being left in the ?on position?. Yesterday, after fully charging the battery, four hours later the battery was found to be fully drained. I boosted the car and began to drive it when at the first traffic light the auto-start-stop feature shut the car off and I could not re-start in the middle of an intersection.

45 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 04/15/2021

Battery repeatedly dies after very short periods of time, no lights left on or doors left open. Vehicle battery has died a total of 4 times in 7 months when left overnight.

46 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

Complaintpurchased vehicle on 8/15/2017. Started having electrical issues that have persisted consistently. Incidents include radio freezing, radio updates and problems still persist, full radio / screen replaced, lights on the cpnsole pulsing during a highway night drive, notice from starlink that my system was not working and I recently just had my battery replaced for the fourth time in 43 months of owning this auto. Most recently I couldnt start my car and was stuck at the south rim of the grand canyon. Had to get the auto to flagstaff Subaru to get the battery replaced. No one mentioned that this issue was recurring and widespread problem. When I got my car back to las vegas, I took the car in to the las vegas Subaru dealer on April 8, 2021. The car was picked up by me on Tuesday ap 13, 2021. I was told that they did an update and that the problem would be fixed. There is no way to tell if that is even remotely correct as there is a new battery (again the 4th battery) in this vehicle and who knows when and where I will get stuck next. The time periods between incidents are as little as a few months and beyond. I literally just read an article today about there being a class action lawsuit for this very same issue for 2016-2020 Subaru Outbacks. No one in the service department or at Subaru national 800 number mentioned this to me. After this 4th battery incident, I did make a complaint to Subaru's national office.

48 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2012 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that his vehicle was consistently burning out head light bulbs. The contact stated that in a 3 year period he had replaced the both the driver's side and the passenger side bulbs 7 times, and following one failure he had replaced the passenger side housing. The contact stated that the bulb in the new housing had blown out. The contact stated that he had also blown a headlight while driving at night at an undisclosed speed. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic was diagnosed and it was determined that the wiring and electrical system was in working order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

49 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2005 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

This is the first Subaru I've ever owned and so far it's been a nightmare. I have had to repair: an oil leak in the engine that required the whole engine to be taken apart. While replacing a seemingly simple part, the hydraulic lifts that keep the back hatch open, the threading that holds the screw in broke off and I had to hire a mechanic yet again to weld that part to be able to screw in the screw to hold the lift in place. And now, the entire interior lighting doesn't work, including the stereo, all the dome lights and the remote control system. In addition to that, the rear wiper doesn't work properly.

50 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2011 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

Low headlamp bulb housing melted so bad it must be replaced at estimated dealer cost of $650. There is an extended warrantee for replacing the bulbs that have been burning out every 6-9 months. I believe they have been burning up due to a manufacturing defect in the housing that is not being addressed. There should be a recall on the low-beam housing unit as it poses a fire risk. The extended bulb replacement warrantee is a band-aid that did not address the underlying issue.

51 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2015 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 12/19/2020

Tapped the accelerator. The car suddenly lurched backward. I put it in neutral and hit the brakes. Nothing happened. I didnt want to hit there garage or my son in laws car so I swerved to the right. I hit the brakes and again nothing happened. The car hit the neighbor bush and eventually came to rest when it hit the neighbors Honda right door. I then put it drive and pulled back onto my daughters driveways and had a difficult time stopping the vehicle. It did approx. $2200 damage to my Subaru Outback sending it to the collision shop for two weeks.

52 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 10/08/2020

Low beams need to be adjusted, as they are too bright for oncoming traffic. I get flashed at night multiple times, even by truckers who sit higher in their vehicles. This is a safety concern because it impairs the vision of oncoming traffic, as well as had drivers have road rage towards me, by them shining their high beams at me.

53 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2005 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 09/20/2020

Defrosters and all digital climate controls are unresponsive. I cannot see out of my vehicle.

54 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

Electrical issues, flickering interior and exterior lights, unable to unlock/ lock doors. Car won't start, dead battery.

55 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2013 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

The warning lights- brakes, tire pressure, cruise control, engine lights and traction control all come on and won't go off. Had them reset by the mechanics but a day later they came back on while I was driving down the highway for no reason. Cruise no longer works as the lights are on. A lot of people on line seem to have this problem and I think you should make Subaru issue some kind of recall to fix this problem. Thank you.

56 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 01/31/2020

Headlights do not have a true low beam. When low beam is selected it partially blocks the top of the high beam. Ok if on a dead flat road. On one that undulates at all at some point cars coming the other way are blinded by the full brightness of the headlight. Often because of this oncoming cars are flashing their high beams at me thinking that I haven't dimmed mine. If a driver is blinded by the high beam brightness it could cause an accident. Or it could cause a road rage incident by someone offended by my high beam. In my state the police have fined drivers for not dimming their lights. Selecting low beam creates a very obvious horizontal cut off of the high beam. But a bounce or by meeting another vehicle while I going up a grade will shine the full high beam in their face.

57 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2011 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/14/2019

Low beam head light burns out while driving on the the interstate highway. Replacing the bulb is not that easy. This is well known problem and Subaru has been aware of the problem for last eight plus years. Instead of replacing the defective lighting system Subaru has extended the warranty for 10 years and it reimburses the cost of the new bulbs. This is a safety issue and all these defective lighting equipment should be replaced. Low beam lights burned out several times since vehicle was purchased.

58 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/20/2019

Purchased this vehicle 3/2019, started having problems with the battery dying in a few months, even having the hatch open during cleaning would drain the battery. We would jump it with another vehicle and the battery would drain in a few days whether we used the vehicle or not. I have been stranded alone in not a safe environment n more than one occasion. Took the battery in to be checked and they said it was fine. Purchased a battery tender and would leave it hooked up and then finally that no longer functioned. Had to purchase a new battery. We will see how long this one will last before the same thing happens. Since we live far out of town we rely on this car to be in tip top running order for any emergencies we may have. Not the case, sorry to say, but I really expected more from Subaru and rightfully so. They have earned an amazing reputation so surprised they know about the problem and won't fix it.

59 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2018 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

Smoke electrical short issue in driver side mirror. Diagnosed by Subaru mechanic to be a short in the approach light module. Significant smoke was emitted from mirror with burn marks on bottom inside middle of mirror. The car had just came to rest in a hospital parking deck. Car was removed from deck in order to prevent fire hazard. Note - a 10 amp fuse did blow which caused a failure of the tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) and the remote lock/unlock system.

60 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2010 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

My vehicle head lights have burnt out at least once a year since I have owned this car. The engine has began stalling when I come to a full stop. It is equipped with a cvt and it feels like coming to a stop in a manual transmission without depressing the clutch. If I let off the brake quickly it will continue idling but coming to a complete stop kills the engine. I guess Subaru has issued an extended warranty but I never recieved the notification and my vehicle is past the mileage for the warranty anyway.

61 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2011 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 02/15/2019

Traction control, brake, and check engine warning lights together periodically turn on, and occasionally the speed control light flashes. Happens when car is stationary and while driving. No car performance has been affected, yet. Unknown if these "symptoms" pose or could result in a safety issue.

65 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

I have been stranded repeatedly by my Subaru since it was purchased with drained batteries, no explanation from Subaru. Safety issues arise from the stranding. There is a lawsuit now with Subaru but they are not acutally fixing the cars? no warnings were given and I now have a unreliable vehicle with no proposed fix from the manufacturer.

66 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2016 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/17/2018

My 2016 Subaru Outback has experienced 6 separate incidents where my vehicle battery was inexplicably drained, and hence the entire electrical system was shut down. I was unable to start it without an external boost in each occasion. Fortunately these incidents posed no safety threat to me or others as the car was parked at my home, or in a parking lot. Unfortunately, the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by my Subaru dealer, gillman, in schertz, TX although extensive diagnostics were performed on 2 occasions by gillman. My Outback has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps illuminated because of a total electrical failure, and no other symptoms of the problem prior to the 6 failures. The dates for the 5 incidents of total electrical failure are the following: (1) 6/18/2018 at 1240 kahili street, kailua, hi. Aaa replaced my original Subaru battery (I do not have original aaa receipt, but other documentation) (2) 10/13/2018 at 1240 kahili street, kailua, hi. Aaa replaced my battery. Radio and maps went to a black screen several times at 5k miles. It was sent to the dealership for update. Still had issues, but not as many. Then the lighting went out on the radio buttons. Replaced main head which was covered under warranty w/a 100 dollar deductible. Automatic door locks work intermittently when put in gear, drivers window control panel does not work for any windows in the car other than the drivers window. Had transmission issues after 2 months of purchase. It idles high and does not smoothly glide into gear. Windshield was cracked by a small rock. It was replaced and two weeks later it cracked again.

68 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2014 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/24/2018

Rearview camera stopped working. It appears to be in wet climate, moisture is penetrating through the rear view camera and corrosion happens to camera wiring and stops to display the image while taking reverse/back. Camera does not display any image (black screen) but shows only the colored lines. Its been noticed that its happening in most of the Outbacks, kindly verify and recommend for necessary recall notice as this relates to safety feature which comes as standard feature.
