1 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

2020 Subaru Outback. Consumer writes in regards to defective rear liftgate. The consumer inadvertently activated the rear liftgate becoming trapped between the liftgate and garage door until it reached it's maximum open capability. The consumer sustained two cuts behind the right ear, severe bruising and scraping on the arm, neck and head.

2 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2017 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

The contact owns a 2017 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that the battery drained without warning. Additionally, the liftgate would inadvertently open. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that a battery replacement was needed. An electronic update was completed. The battery had been replaced three times. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

3 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2008 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 12/12/2007

The rear trim that retains the center light will break off if there is ice built up on the inside of the hinge area. All ice and snow can be removed from the top of the car, however there is no seal between the rear hatch and the body to prevent ice from building up. There is no warning with the car to be aware of this issue. There is no warning to the owner until it too late and you have broken the wing off the car.

4 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2003 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/15/2007

Water is getting into the rear door of Outback Subaru wagon causing the corroding of rear light harnesses. Taillight failed to operate and had assembly had to be replaced. Dealer can't determine how/why water is getting into the rear door. After heavy rain, the water can be heard moving around in the door. Water drains out when the door is opened.
