The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated he was on his own with repairing the vehicle and offered no assistance. The manufacturer stated they would not approve any modifications on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 13,000.

2 Interior Rearview Mirror problem of the 2003 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/22/2006

Internal coating inside compass mirror with auto light detection. The golden coating inside the mirror decomposed and ran into the mirror all within an hour or two. It wasn't hot, I just got into my car and it began to sort of melt. The used replacement is $225. . . This is a 2003 Subaru Outback ll bean edition. . . . This is ridiculous!!!.
