When we were driving the 2011 Subaru Outback on the road on July 5,2019, the fuel gauge suddenly shifted from almost full to zero. The car stopped and we placed it in park. Subsequent attempts to start the car did not even ignite the engine, even when we added another gallon of gas and tried jump starting the car. There were no visible signs of a gas leak. Our insurance company towed our car to nearby coleman Subaru NJ, where the dealer has now assumed it was a computer issue and have asked to order another computer to fix it. This was an incredibly scary experience for us. There were five people in the car when we were driving and thankfully no one was hurt. If it happened on the high way, I don't know what would have happened. We are concerned this is a safety issue which can get people hurt.

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Subaru Outback. While driving 35 mph, the fuel gauge indicated 40 miles remaining, but the vehicle ran out of fuel. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

I was driving and the fuel indicator indicated 70 miles to go last time I saw it. I only had to drive 10 miles home and the car suddenly stopped, thankfully on a local road. Some warning lights started appearing and I couldnt make what the problem was. I tried to restart a few times until I decided it had to be fuel. We pushed car to side of road and went to gas station to get gas. Came back with gas, refilled and car started and went home. I thought it was my fault, althought I couldnt explain why the last time a saw the fuel gauge said 70 miles and I was just going home, not even 10 miles to get there.
Fuel gauge does not register full when car is filled up. Dealer did not repair the first time and problem returned same day after filling up again. Have to go back again to dealer. I am concerned that if gauge does not register properly car may run out of gas in a place that could be dangerous (I. E. ; freeway , busy road, etc. ). Car dealers and companies response to this problem seems evasive . I am very concerned that this could become a very serious and dangerous problem . Vehicle is stationary or in motion and no change in fuel gauge. Does not matter if you turn vehicle or go up or down hill either . Happened multiple times now. Not repaired as of yet.

There are several issues going on with my 1999 Subaru legacy Outback vehicle:
1) the check engine light goes on when the fuel gauge drops down to empty although the gas tank was just filled with gas. 2) the fuel gauge does not read correct. After the gas tank is full, the gauge fluctuates back and forth (sometimes the gauge reads near empty, sometimes the gauge reads 3/4 of the tank full) when operating the vehicle. 3) the car did not pass the California smog test. 4) the rpm gauge does not stay constant while driving at an even speed. Once the gauge hits between two to three thousand rpm, the gauge drops back to between one and two thousand rpm on and of when driving. 5) the gas tank does not maintain pressure even though the lid was screwed on tight. The lid was replaced with a new one but this problem still occurs. All these issues occur with the check engine light on. The dealer does not want to look at these issues without having me pay them to look at my car. These issues my car has been experiencing have been on and off since 2001 to present. The problems seem to get worse.
