3 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2020 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Driving on a busy road, made a stop at a light. When I got the green arrow to turn left, car just died in the middle of the intersection. Was fortunate, 4 good individuals jumped out of their vehicles to push us out of the intersection and avoid collision with oncoming traffic. Called Subaru for a tow. During the 2 hour wait, tried to start a couple of times with no luck. When tow truck arrived, was to put it in neutral, so attempted to start again, which it did. Drove immediately to dealership. Stayed there for 2 and a half weeks. They replaced fuel pump, which in my mind, may not be at the root of the problem. My thoughts are that something overheated, possibly a circuit or software that caused the malfunction. It was a 95 degree day, the car had been idling for about 20 minutes in a store parking lot right before the shutdown. In talking with Subaru, they will not give me root cause once they do further analysis on the problem. I feel at great risk this can happen at any time going forward, (ie on the interstate, at an intersection, etc). I'm hoping that logging this incident will help other Outback owners know of the potential danger they may be in.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/08/2020

My 2019 Subaru Outback had a fuel pump recall, and the dealership did the recall. I drove the car for 15 miles, parked it on a city street, and when I returned back after an hour to start the car, it did not start. The whole interior started smelling like gasoline. When I exited the car, I noticed gasoline leaking from the passenger side of the car, and all over the city street. I think the new fuel pump they are installing are defective.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 07/05/2020

My Outback had fuel pump failure and stalled on highway ramp on July 5, 2020 after Subaru dealership replaced fuel pump on July 1, 2020 per safety recall wrd-20. On July 1, 2020, I had my 18,000 miles service and safety recall wrd-20 (fuel-pump) done at Subaru dealership. Picked up the car and drove it home. On July 5, I drove from pleasant hill to san francisco and the car stalled on highway 101 at off ramp. I cannot restart the car and there was heavy smell of gasoline coming inside the car. I cannot push it to the side since the driving wheel is very hard to move and the car stalled in the middle lane of three lanes highway ramp. I had to wait for tow truck to come to get off the highway and it was towed back to my home since the dealership service shop is closed on Sunday. After the tow truck dropped off my car, I was trying to start the car and found out gasoline is leaking/pouring from bottom of my car and still cannot start. I have attached two pictures to show the gasoline leaking/pouring condition. I went online and found I am not the only case that fuel pump failed again after recall wrd-20 fuel pump replacement. This is not safe for drivers.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/17/2020

The vehicle ran rough and then lost power while exiting I-55 in the chicago area. The vehicle was stalled on the side of the exit ramp, but I was able to restart it and exit the interstate. It seems like it is related to the ongoing fuel pump recall.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2019 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/16/2020

In January, 2020, my 2019 Subaru Outback failed to start because the battery was dead. It did start with a jump but had a dead battery the next time I wanted to use it. I had the Outback towed to the nearest dealer over 100 miles away. They offered no help, telling me the problem was battery drainage from the remote starter I had installed. So, I drove home and then another 100 miles in the opposite direction to have the starter checked. The technician told me the remote starter was within acceptable range. I managed to get through the winter with a battery maintainer. The Outback was fine once the weather warmed up this spring. Then in may, 2020, I again had problems. The hatch did not open, made clicking noises, and beeped when I would drive the Outback. This problem after having to jump start the Outback because the battery would again be dead. Not fun, when I would have to call for help to get home from grocery shopping. My friend suggested buying a new battery with more cranking power, which I did. Now, the Outback is working fine. Will it last??? then when contacting Subaru of America to see if I could get some reimbursement for the battery, the representative told me there was a recall on my Outback due to fuel pump problems. I have not received a notification.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 04/22/2017

Positive wire to the fuel pump burned through to the open gas tank leaving the car able to run intermittently. The plastic housing was melted and burned and the wiring connector was ruined. My concern is the hot wire connector, hot enough to melt and leave the plastic connector burned, was hanging into the area open to fuel. I have pics. The car was running and occupied .

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 12/13/2016

The fuel pipe filler and valve assembly failed and allowed gasoline to leak. There was also a leak on the fuel pump that the dealer was not able locate on the first two attempts. The leaks were most noticeable when parked in the garage and could have possibly caused a fire.

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2003 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

A metal cap inside the fuel pump assembly has sheared at the place where its screws onto the fuel pump body. This caused a drop in fuel pressure, which stopped the engine completely.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2000 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 06/06/2004

After a tune up from a car dealership, my 2000 Subaru Outback exerts an intermitten problem of hesitation. Once moving the car doing ok, especially on freeway. But after exiting from freeway to a complete stop, car is choking as if having a timing problem and cannot slow rpm to idle. After that as the light turns, step on the gas paddle won't increase rpm or moving the car. When this happens, it usually takes a few minutes before it began to roll again. It continues to take much more time to get car back to normal speed. The problem is progressing to a greater frequency. Now after a month, it's really dangerous to run. It actually stalled in the middle of the street a few times. A trip back to the dealer didn't help. After keeping the car for 2 days for test drive they said the problem couldn't be replicated and so there is no problem. I took the car to a reputeable mechanic that specializes in Subaru. He recognized the problem but after many days of diagnostics and changeing the fuel regulator, fuel pump, fuel injector, the problem persists. Yet there is no check engine light on. The car is now is almost undrivable. So far I have spent over 3000 dollars but still no solution. This car is only 4 years old and 70k miles with a well maintenance record. This problem must be known to the manufacturer since I found so many description of the same problem on the net, started with an early model. This is a serious flaw that needs manufacturers attention or even a recall.
