The Outback wilderness comes stock with yokohama geolandar a/t 225/65r17. There was 13,300 miles on it from factory new tires. At interstate speed of about 75mph, the tread appears to have fully separated from the sidewalls. The tread was closely inspected for any debris by myself, my dealer, and others and no tire punctures are present. We believe this tire has a manufacturers defect and would like to have it inspected if possible. We have kept the tread, despite asking dealer to save all part of tire, the still managed to lose the part from the rim, thought there as not much left from the accident, it was virtually destroyed. Very unusual in all my years of driving.

While driving at highway speed the tire separated at the seam of the sidewall and tread. Tire tread depth was between 9–9. 5/32nd on the tire. 225/60 r17 tire. Because of the complete separation of the tire and how sudden the separation occurred, it caused the vehicle to lose control, thankfully the driver was able to get control of the vehicle and get it start safely. The safety of all occupants and vehicles on the roadway were put at risk. Tire was taken to the retailer (car dealership), retailer and consumer contacted the manufacturer who stated this is not a manufacture defect.

Tires worn to wear bar 2/32 to 4/32 in in 28,000 miles. At severe risk for hydroplaning and possible accident related to all tires with premature wear. This is second full set of michelin tires that have worn prematurely. The tires have been inspected by costco tires which is the purchasing dealer. I have called the manufacture also Aug 18, 2022. They have started a warranty but was told it would be toward purchase of new set of michelin. I do not wish to purchase their tires in the near future. I have been a customer with michelin for many years and have always been very satisfied but recently the tires are very poor quality.

2019 Subaru Outback. Consumer is seeking reimbursement for repairs made to vehicle. The consumer stated the tires were prematurely worn. The consumer slid off the road 3 times.
Tire failure at low mileage. Tires not passing safety inspection after appx 20,000 use. Tread down to 4//32. Tires purchased at costco . Line is michelin premier a/s . Multi visits to costco to inspect after two independent tire inspectors stated they would not pass safety inspection with wear bares close to tread suface. Costco refused to call failure stating that is normal for this type of tires. The rating was at least 60. 000 miles. There was a recent road hazard that punctured front tire and costco wanted to charge for new front tire. Very unstatisfied with tires, frequent slipping and loss of traction on snow and rain. Unsafe.
2015 Subaru Outback. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for vehicle repairs. The consumer stated the rear bearings were gone at 65,000 miles. The purchased tired wer bald at 25,000 miles. The consumer believes this should be covered under warranty.
Primewell tires developed wave and intense road noise even at 50% tread. . Have been balanced/aligned regularly.

On November 13, 2013 I was driving on st rt 52 heading east in new richmond, ohio at a speed not less that 50 and not greater than 60 mph. At approximately 12:00 noon my driver-side rear tire completely separated from the tire wall--luckily this did not happen to any of the front tire otherwise I might have been killed.

My 2011 Subaru Outback came with oe contiprocontact p225/60r17. This is a tire of continental that has an 80000 mile warranty. These tires on my car wore down to the tire replacement indicator at 36750 miles. . I call continental and was told that oe tires on new cars are for defect only, not mileage. I feel this is a total ripoff on the part of continental tires and a total misrepresentation of matter. When the retail tire has the 80k warranty. I feel continental should reimburse me the pro rated amount on the $724 spent on the exact replacement tires I purchased.

After two month of using a new car model Outback 2013 the left front tire had emptied at the parking lot. An invisible cut was found that it was necessary to bought a new tire. A weeks later of this event the back left tire is been emptying very frequently since. Apparently the original tires of the car has invisible defects that get the tire to empty with the normal road use. This car has a frequently signal for verification and filling of the tires.

2011 Subaru Outback. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle shaking while driving due to snow and ice build-up in the tires. The dealer washed the underside of the car in hot water, to melt the ice which resolved the problem.
This is part 2 of original complaint # 10422477. Since I have a 2nd defective tire.
2010 Subaru Outback 2. 5. 9. 5k at speeds above approximately 65mph sever vibration of steering wheel (steering wheel deflection about 1/8 inch back and forth). Speedometer hand seemed to vibrate - but could have been hands, arms, head, eyes absorbing the rapid wheel vibration). Never happened on infrequent high speed road trips. Could not have been not felt. Dealer did road force test on the original continental brand powers. Two failed and replaced. Failed tires where in diagonal positions. Asked manager about the other two tires - he said tires were either good or bad. Not consistent with my experience. Did not have vibration well into the mileage for the year. So tires could not have been bad at the beginning or it was not just the tires.
My 2010 Subaru Outback has front end shaking, and steering wheel shimmy at speeds over 65 mph, 1 trip to the dealer for this problem resulted in steering wheel shimmy at lower speeds.
Our 2010 3. 6r Outback arrived in Apr. The first time that the vehicle was taken on the highway, I noticed a prominent high frequency vibration in the steering wheel. There is also unusual feedback in the steering wheel at slower speeds that feels unlike anything related to road noise. I researched the "problem" on the internet and seen that there were many forums identifying the same problem for 2010 Outbacks. I informed our local Subaru service dept. About the vibration and made an appointment. A Subaru service technician confirmed the vibration during a test drive and recommended a spin balance. After reading all the complaints and proposed "fixes" on the internet, I told them that I was not confident that a spin balance was going to be successful. I asked the service dept. Manager if they had been informed/aware of the ongoing problems and she denied having any previous knowledge of steering vibration issues with any Outbacks. The spin balance added a multitude of stick-on weights to all four wheels (some exceed 9 in. In length). The invoice said that a follow-up test drive by a technician produced normal steering as designed. A test drive home from the dealership on the highway again produced the same high frequency vibration. I informed the service dept. Immediately and the vehicle was again left there this morning. I produced several pages of complaints found on the internet identifying this issue. They made copies of them and told me that they were going to contact soa factory engineers. The bottom line is this. The vibration is prominent enough to cause fatigue and numbness in the hands on extended drives. There is also a concern of what may fail and cause a loss of steering or vehicle control. The faulty component needs to be identified and the issue fixed by soa immediately. Soa has tried a number of fixes without success (spin-balance, forced balance, alignment, backlash spring, wheel bearing, steering pump, replace out-of-round tires).
I purchased a Subaru Outback 2. 5i premium (manual transmission) on 03/15/2010 and noticed moderate to severe steering wheel and front driver's side wheel vibration above 40mph on the second day. I subsequently checked tire pressure on all four tires, gave the car some time to "break in", and tested various road conditions and speeds to determine if the problem is more pronounced under certain conditions. The vibration can be felt at speeds above 50mph on the front driver and passenger side floors, seats, and in the steering wheel, with the intensity increasing with speed, regardless of road smoothness. After the car didn't self-correct, I scheduled an appointment at the dealership for 04/26/2010 to do an initial/routine check of the car. They rebalanced all four tires and said that should fix it, but asked that I advise any future issues. The vibration remains, but at speeds above 60mph (a mere 10mph increase) from both the steering wheel and tires, and - as before - is increasingly noticeable at higher speeds and during rain/wet weather. I called the dealer and have scheduled another appointment to address this vibration issue. I will post a follow-up once this service is complete.
I have a 2005 Subaru Outback turbo. Turbo failed at 65k miles. Axel broke at 64k miles and now the right wheel bearing is out at 70k miles. I understand there is a recall on both rear bearings but not the front. Turbo has been a big problem too.

Brand new 2010 Subaru Outback has a shimmy problem . The steering wheel shimmies and when making a wide turn, often the steering feels like you hit an ice patch, even tho the road is dry. Subaru is and was aware of these problems before production, and sold them anyway.
There is an continuous vibration and shimmy in the front-end and steering wheel of my 2010 Subaru Outback that since new (oct 2009) has not been able to be rectified by Subaru mechanics, even with cooperation by Subaru of America. This vibration can sometimes be dramatic through the steering wheel at highway speeds, and causes erratic drivability, especially in adverse conditions. This vibration may also cause premature wear on front tires, steering and suspension components that could lead to failure and injury, especially at highway speeds. In fact, Subaru initially blamed the tire manufacturer - continental - for the issue, stating the tires were defective, and had continental issue replacement tires for my Outback. This did solve the problem. If this problem is researched on popular and respectable automotive web sites, one can find that it has been affecting a considerable amount of 2010 Subaru Outbacks and to date, no owners have had their issue resolved by Subaru of America. Many other owners reported Subaru of America replacing what were considered "defective" continental tires, with another set of exact tires from continental. I am worried that this issue is not getting enough exposure and may take an unfortunate accident for anyone to seriously take notice. I have a customer service case open with Subaru, but it is evident from my repeated conversations with them that they are being evasive with where they are in fixing this issue, and I have now become deeply concerned for the safety of my family. They want to try another 'fix', but that will not be until mid-March, with no guarantee of resolution. This is a brand new car with only 6,000 miles on it, and I have been thoroughly disappointed with the issues it has had. This vehicle was heavily influenced by Toyota, who owns a considerable percentage of Subaru. . . If this says anything.
The contact owns a 1999 Subaru Outback. The vehicle has goodyear regatta 2 tires, size 205/70/15. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle began vibrating. The vibrations worsened as the speed increased. In addition, the contact heard a loud noise outside of the vehicle. There were no prior warnings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and he stated that the front driver's and passenger tires exhibited excessive road force variations. A road force balancing measurement was performed on the defective tires; however, the four tires mounted on the vehicle exhibited uniform wear and tread life. The tires were temporarily rotated to the rear of the vehicle. The technician recommended replacing the defective tires. The contact is in the process of replacing all four tires. The failure mileage was 125,355 and current mileage was 127,305. Updated 8/10/09

2007 Subaru Outback 2. 5i, 4 snow tires, 5mt. This has happened several times. When driving the vehicle straight (no turns) on slightly icy or blowing snow roads, the rear end begins to wobble approxiamtley 3inches side to side. I am giving the car little to no throttle and it will still sway. The swaying becomes much worse with more weight in the car (1 foot side to side). The swaying is so bad that I often have to drive 15-20mph slower than general traffic. I have had new tires put on (snow tires) and had the car aligned. It still occurs.

Absolutely horrible performance in icy road conditions. Other cars pass with ease while mine felt like it was slipping and floating over the road. This only seems to occur in icy road conditions. We actually spun out on ice while only driving 30mph, clipping a road sign. We're lucky the damage/injuries weren't worse. Car feels completely uncontrollable. It is terrifying to drive in these conditions.

We purchased a new 2006 Subaru with brigstone tires. We drive in wet and snowy conditions regularly. On our first drive to CO from WI, we noticed poor wet weather handling. On our next trip to CO from WI, we experienced horrible traction on snow and ice covered roads. We have had the tires rotated per warranty, we have had the alignment and suspension checked. The tires appear to be the problem. We have email the mfr/brigstone twice and have not received an answer. I believe the oem tires are not safe on wet and snow covered roads.
Tires are falling apart. At less than 10,000 miles Subaru advised us to replace them. They are bridgestone potenza re92a 225 55r 17.
While driving on interstate 35 we encountered patchy ice on the road surface. On more than one occasion with constant speed (60 mph, 10 mph below the posted speed limit), on straight streches of road, the rear end of our 2005 Subaru Outback awd would skid suddenly. The skids would occur without warning and were large enough to cause some body roll. In all cases the car recovered without input from the driver. When the awd system was deactivated per the Subaru manual no such skids occured on the same trip in identical situations. I have driven in minnesota for over 20 years in rear wheel, front wheel, and 4 wheel drive vehicles and have never experienced the sudden skidding in steady state condiditons. The Outback was taken to our local Subaru dealer and the awd system was checked with no faults found. An internet search indicated that the combinatiion of bridgestone potenza re92 225/60r 16 tires (standard from the factory) and the awd of the Subaru may be a dangerous combination. As stated earlier, with the awd system deacitvated and the car in front wheel drive, no skids were experienced. We have the same tire on our 2004 Honda civic and have had no winter issues with it.
The contact states one of the tires has been losing air. The service mechanic states that he has never seen this problem. The wheel itself looks like it has a cracked. It is right in the middle of the wheel on the inner rim. It has not damaged the tires. The tire is located on the passenger's side front. The metal alloy wheel is what has the crack. The tires on the wheel were almost new and there was no problem with them.

While traveling on highway consumer hit a pothole and left front firestone tire and wheel came off.
This car comes with firestone wilderness tires made especially for the Outback. At only 24000 miles, I had a blowout in which the complete left side of the tire disintegrated. A few months after I bought the car and heard of the trouble with firestone tires, I called the dealer who assured me that these tires were safe and not on the recall list. When this dangerous incident happened two days ago, I went to a local firestone dealer who told me he could not get these wilderness tires, and didn't even have them in his computer. He wanted to blame Subaru for the failure. I called both my Subaru dealer and the head office in georgia (spoke with manager kevin triplett), and he wanted to blame firestone. These tires are obviously defective, as it simply disintegrated under normal driving conditions. I will be happy to email you pictures or to show you the tire in person. After warning both firestone & Subaru of this defective product, they would only agree to put the same problem tire on my car, and I refuse to put my family's life in jeopardy with a defective tire. I was going the speed limit outside of la and my tire shredded into 3 perfect pieces. There is a tiny hole in the tire but I have only seen a tire deteriorate such as this on the news with the cases of recalled tires. Please tell me that there are more tires out there than mine doing this and it is not just coincidence my tire was made in the same plant as all of the recalled too. Junk. . . . Just junk I tell ya. And if I had been driving an explorer I probably would not be here writting you today. (dot number: w2xo w66 tiresize: 225/60r16).
