36 Tire problem of the 2000 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 04/09/2000

Front left tire split after owning vehicle only three days; happened on interstate at highway speed; no warning of problem; changed to temporary spare; reported to dealership and tire was replaced. This appears to be very similar to the incidents reported recently on the Ford explorers, but this specific tire has not been recalled yet. Please seriously consider recalling this model.

37 Tire problem of the 2000 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 03/25/2000

With less than 1,000 miles on a brand new Subaru Outback, I had an unexplained flat tire (no nail/screw/obvious damage)on my way to work. I had to replace the tire due to the fact I drove on it briefly and damaged the tire beyond repair (cost $165). 8/15, with less than 8,000 miles on the car, I was driving at 25- 30 mph and heard a "pop". As the car's handling changed I realized I had had a blow out and pulled over. Subaru roadside emergency service assisted me (case#sub0008000902). The following day, I purchased 4 replacement michelin tires and reported my problem to firestone (file # 262-223). I hope to get financial satisfaction from firestone. I received no support from the car dealership uninterested in my dilemma. ( dot number: w2ko w66 tire size: p22560r16 ).

38 Tire problem of the 1999 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 11/15/1999

I bought a 1999 Subaru Outback 30th anniversary limited edition in June of 1999. Within six months, the car began to exhibit clutch and transmission problems. I brought this to the immediate attention of the Subaru dealer. For three years they denied that there was anything wrong with the vehicle, always saying they were unable to duplicate the problems. Finally in June of 2002, I was able to get a regional service supervisor to admit that the car definitely had problems. His first solution was to suggest that I trade the car in on a new one. When I declined, he offered to have the car properly repaired, as it should have been three years prior. After four trips to two different Subaru dealers and after supposedly having the entire clutch assembly replaced three times, the car is in worse shape than it ever has been. Subaru has refused to repair the car, despite the fact that it's under an extended warranty that covers the entire transmission. I have had to retain an attorney to deal with Subaru of America. Subaru claims that the car now operates as designed and that any problems I am now experiencing are a result of my driving habits. Subaru refuses to replace the car because they were able to stall any repairs until the car passed the two year lemon law exclusion. This is not the only problem with this car. I have had repeated brake failures. The car went through a set of michelin radial tires in less than 20,000 miles. The driver's side seat belt is defective. I have experienced repeated electrical system failures. This car cannot be driven in snow (contrary to Subaru's commercials) because the tires become compacted with snow and are thrown out of balance. The brakes also become compacted with snow and ice and have failed repeatedly, almost causing serious injury. The radio antenna refuses to retract in cold weather. I could go on and on, but Subaru refuses to listen or repair the car.

39 Tire problem of the 1996 Subaru Outback

Failure Date: 04/15/1998

Michelin tires and aluminum rims appear to be incompatible. Dealer cannot detect reason for continuing air loss. Have been filling tires with air almost as frequently as filling tank with gas. I think this is a safety hazard and because it is all tires or at least two or three, I need an answer regarding a cure. I am in touch with Subaru.

47 Tire problem of the 2000 Subaru Outback

As you can see by the mileage, I have a brand new Subaru Outback legacy stationwagon and it is a beautiful machine. It came equipped with firestone wilderness tires and we are very concerned. I do not want to see my Outback flipped over in the road with me or my husband in it. We bought this car to replace our Saturn which was totalled in an accident when someone hit it at 50 mph. I work for the consumer product safety commission and as you may be aware we do lots of recalls on defective products. The accidents are racking up almost daily with these tires. Please issue a recall. I don't want to add insult to injury and have to go out and replace brand new tires on a brand new car. Lives are at stake here and so is may brand new Subaru! help!( dot number: ).
