The gear shift does not engage fully in park when the car is stopped. This is an intermittent problem. If it is not engaged fully when the engine is off, the key cannot be removed and the gear shift can slide from park to reverse and neutral without pressing the gear shift button. It is necessary to restart the car sometimes two or three times in order for park to fully engage. Twice when the car was idling in park it did not engage fully and slid into reverse. The second time caused an accident but no injuries. The car has been serviced regularly and there have been no warning indicators to date.

The automatic transmission does not engage often causing a jerking motion of the car which is undiagnosed for the past 3 years. Subaru extended the transmission warranty for one year. I want it fixed. My wife and I have complained since the car was new (2016 model).
Stopped for a red light. When the light turned green car would not go forward because the automatic transmission would not engage forward gears. Evidently this is a common problem with a known defect and expensive repair.

The automatic transmission park mechanism does not engage properly. With selector lever in "park " and car turned off and ignition key removed, the car rolls. In the early years, the car rolled only slightly and finally "engaged": now, the car rolls several feet and does not always engage, requiring use of the emergency brake for all parking. Because the problem is getting worse, we searched for repair & recall information. We found that although our model & year are on the recall list for this park mechanism, our VIN# is not.

Vehicle will not engage into drive from park, or vehicle will disengage from drive without warning, putting the car into neutral. Although no accident has occurred vehicle has failed to engage into drive in several high traffic situations. The vehicle only has 67,000 miles.
The automatic transmission has delayed engagement when changing from park to drive. The transmission will not engage for up to 10 seconds then it will engage abruptly causing the vehicle to lunge forward uncontrollably in an unsafe manner. This situation has been described in complaint# 10074032, 10090065, 10106683, and 10122566. Subaru of America denies that there is a pattern of complaints/problems.
